hey dude i am also in the same boat:)... i would suggest that u get into some work and prepare along with that... wasting time is not an option :|... and regarding your family business, don't worry if u have been working after graduation then it will surely be considered as proper work ex. (provided u work in ur office and do not sit idle )...hope this helps ATB
puys... need some help.. currently i am pursuing bachelors of business economics.. i am totally confused where my interests lies, and what profile am i suited for... here's my profile.. kindly have a look..
maths is my childhood love, and i enjoy economics is well.. theory subjects is something that i have never enjoyed. studied accounts only in class 11 and 12, but enjoyed it. i have taken up finance as a specialization in my final year, but couldnt devote much time to it as i was busy with CAT prep. so no idea how i fare up in finance. on the personal front, i love competition. also, i am a monomaniac, and whatever interests me, i am 24*7 into it... appeared for various mba entrance exams this year.. as of now, i have IIM S, SIBM, SCMHRD, NMIMS(expected..240),MFC and MBE calls..
i'd come across the term investment banking around a year ago. since then, i'v developed a liking for the lifestyle of an investment banker.. high salary and the ultra professional life is something that i'v been craving for ever since. now the prob is that i am unsure whether it is just my obsession or am i really suitable for this job. what is your say on this??? shall i go approach a career counselor??? guys i wish to take an informed decision. kindly pour in your suggestions..
Look as far as i know, to become an investment banker u need to do CFA(Not sure though)... don't have much idea about cfa...u can check on pg... gather some information, and then decide accordingly... If you feel that u seriously want to go for it then there is no harm... however you need to be sure about what you want to do in life and your goals...and then make an informed decision...don't go by the high salary and the ultra professional life:nono: if you have certain goals nd u stick to it you will always be successful in life (with lots of money:clap:)... hope this helps... P.S.- However, my advice to u would be to convert ur calls(u have really gud ones )... ATB
I am 23 yr old b.tech (IT) working in HCL Tech for 6 months now. I passed out in 2009 and did my .NET certification in the middle. I want to do M.B.A. full time from an average institute in delhi/ncr.
1. What module in MBA would suit me the best?
2. Since I've lost touch with Maths of 11th n 12th what are the chances of me clearing MAT 2011. Which quarter paper should i try for? May or after that?
3. Are there any institutes that are reputed and have easier papers or giving MAT is a necessity?
4. I've heard that Amity university is very costly but provides admission if one clears its own paper+Gd+interview. What are the chances of a good education and placement there?
5. Are there any other reputed institutes that I can try and get admission in 2011?
if you have certain goals nd u stick to it you will always be successful in life (with lots of money:clap:)
thanks a lot for replying sir... yr actually the prob is that i am still unsure about where i see myself five or 10 yrs down the line.. the curriculum of my grad course is very old, and making a career choice just on the basis of that doesnt seem to be feasible idea.. by gods grace, even if i manage to convert the calls i have, it will be a risk i'l be taking, as i am still not sure whether finance is my passion or marketing.. plzzz help yr.. P.S i know i might be sounding like a confused soul, but that is what i am feeling as of now. i am unable to focus on my gdpi prep coz of this unsurety of my life!!!:drinking::drinking:

Any specific reason why your relatives feel so ?
Work hard to get a high percentile, start reading up on current affairs and assessing yourself, and why do you want to do an MBA for starters
they want me to finish my academics ASAP n then get settled..actually my bro did the same thing what i want to do ri8 now n he ended up getting a poor percentile.. though i m quite sure that this wont happen wid me but then i need to make sure that if i manage to get a good percentile then i m able to convert the call also..what should i do?? (i m no mood to join UPES.it is the family pressure on me )

I gave my CAT/IIFT and have calls from IIML,IIMI,IIFT. Done with my IIFT GDPI yesterday . I have been working for one of top 3 Indian IT services firm for last 30 months. I also got job offer from Oracle, India with 50% hike . I am asked to join on March 3rd. case 1. If I join Oracle and if I also get admission in any of the above mentoned bschools, I have to immediately quit Oracle. what will be the implications. case 2. If I join Oracle and if I don't get admission in any of the above mentoned bschools, I have to work for Oracle for 1 n half year more before I can again try for CAT. there will no hikes, no onsite. case 3. If I continue in my present job case 3.1 If I get MBA seat, =>no probelms. I can quit my present company then. case 3.2 If I don't get MBA seat=>I may get Onsite opportunity in my present company. More money compared to Oracle. I'll International experience. Next year, I can try for International B schools also. Also, considering salary revision expected to happen in april, salary difference will come down to 8K, eben at 10% hike in my present company.

CASE3.2 seems the best option..it has the least risk...and try to convert ur calls..uv got good ones...
if ur not able to convert any call u can continue with ur present job nd International experience would be wonderful...

show your family that you really want to pursue your dream, start discussing with them the type of job you are looking at after the MBA, maybe then they will understand, in the meantime work on interview skills, presenting yourself, you could join a coaching institute for the same
