Need some advice here. I am in IT (Accenture) and not really sure what to do nxt. I will be completing 3 years of now with Accenture. Not much happy with my work. So far the journey hasn't been too bad. Got good ratings and have also been onshore for a short stint of 4 months. I hav resigned now and have 2 gud offers too.
The confusion I hav is shud I give CAT this year (virtually my last attempt) or shud I wait for a year or 2 and then GMAT. I do not hav too many issues with my current work but I knw I can do better and deserve to be at a better place/position. I had NMIMS admit a year back. Didn't join due to personal reasons. Shud have joined I feel now....... I am not sure what to do now Options:
1) Give CAT and oder exams with full prep (targetting : A,C,B,L, FMS, XL, SPjain n JB). Other colleges wud not really like a studnt with 4 yrs of wrk.ex and it wont really help me further
2) GMAT (looking for 1 yr course and cannot afford a US course so its pretty much ISB and SIngapore....)

I think you have the required 3+ workex to get admission in IIMs.I think IIM-L gives good weightage to people with 3+ workex. You should prepare for this year again and aim for IIMs. As you had already converted NM earlier, I dont think you require a break to prepare. You can juggle job and prep side by side or take a less stressful option out of the 2 options you have.
As far as second option goes, if you are not able to clear this year, you can go for the second option. Still fees in an executive course is almost double the normal PGDM. So you have to keep in mind even that.
But preparing fulltime for CAT(w/o job) is not advicable IMO.

I appeared for cat in 2008 and got only 96 ( courtesy 22 %tile in VA) anyways I am preparing to go for cat this year once again but my 10 ,12 and engg score ,all are in 70's with 29 months work ex( that too in Infosys), so is there still an opportunity open for me in terms of top 15 colleges ,as colleges less than that would offer me less money then what i would get continuing in this field itself.

With your workex, you can get a call from IIM-L and other new IIMs with 99.1+%ile
According to me, you should score above 98.5%ile + from calls from NITIE,SPJAIN,MDI,IMT-G etc.As you have a decent profile, you will need more percentile to convert these colleges.For SIBM-P, you need to get in excess of 115(acc to this year).

adding to what Tejas said you can also apply for IIFT,FMS, nd NMIMS as these r the colleges that give more weightage to written scores and acads play very less role in final selection..same thing goes with the new IIMs nd IIM L nd IIM C...

If you already have 29 months of work-ex, there are other good school apart from IIMs

AdmissionIIM SaysQuit your job and study fulltime. Give it your best. I was in the same boat. Lateral placement starts from 2+ years of experience and since you already have more than that, quitting your job would be ok.
Sorry to differ on this, but I would never suggest anyone to sit at home and prepare for an entrance exam. This could work for engineering entrance, but not for MBA entrance. The Gap in your work would be tough to explain.

But coming week my project is getting dissolved and my worst nightmare(or dream fo some ppl 😃 ) will come true i.e. I will be on the bench for an undefined timeperiod.
I know its a regular thing in IT industry but i am worried about how will i be able to defend/justify/count in my workex at the time of applying at a TOP B school.
My query is that how much one can bluff in front of an experienced INterviewer panel at a top 20 B school ,given the fact that they see ppl like me every year.
PS: i have little interest in IT job even though it was a savior for me last year after a miserable CAT:P.

This kind of question is never asked in an interview nor it can be known to the interviewers as it is company's internal process. You just have to tell them what you have done in the company(and not what you havent done) and if you sound convincing enough, they will take you. I know people who were on bench for most of their 2 years in the company clearing IIM-L interviews. So dont worry and prepare well for CAT-2011.

this year i gave cat and i got meagre 88%...i m working in IT firm,basically on bench from last month...i m getting offer to work from client location ..should i take it and study for cat ...or i should remain on bench for some more time and efficently use that time for cat preperation
Kindly help me puys. I am 2009 engineering passout (electronics and communication). Since I wasn't interested in taking up an job in engineering and IT. I went for an part time mba program (the classes were only on mon to wed that too only 2 hrs daily) and then joined an company in 2010. The first year was an gr8 experience as I was involved with research and preparing business cases. Lately this month my boss had resigned and his duties were given to me. Now I am being asked to manage a working project (civil construction job in power sector) which were managed by him for 6 months as he was an civil engineer with 7 year exp. Had no clue abt the project and one fine day they said I would have to take care of it. I havent visited the site and I have no clue how to execute an civil job. Though it involves only managing I will be held accountable here after for the project which is going in loss. There are several problems like labour payment, vendor payment I am finding it extremely difficult to understand how it is to be done but the management says I should grow which I am finding as pathetic as asking an ece guy with no exp to manage an civil job. I am planing to run away from the job and search for something better. I also have planned to join an mba institute next year for sure and prepare for my entrance exams right away. So puys I want ur opninon with regard to am I doing the right thing or should I not run from my responsiblities. I have planned to join in an consulting or finance company after completing my mba.i am scared to quit as I have lost one year doing nothing (09 - 10) as I don't think I gained substanially in that part time program

Do not leave job and prepare for MBA.As it can go horribly wrong.Keep job and prepare side by side

Brother let me give you an advise that you will cherish for the rest of your life...Do not ever settle for anything but what you truly deserve..I see that you are a 2010 passout..If you were able to get 97 percentile in your first attempt I am pretty sure you have the capability to do well..I would strongly suggest giving it another try this year..in the next attempt you will see for yourself that you are much wiser..you already know your weeknesses and strenghts ..you just need to work on them..If you are hell bent on not doing software anymore..i suggest trying to shift job or taking up a job with an NGO and working simultaneously...Trust it is not all that to give up ayear to prepare for something..even the interviewers understand this..u just need to put your point across to them..And in any case I am sure that the next year also u would pretty easily get the colleges you have mentioned..

I have done btech and in cre sector job in a service based company...i had been a good student in my school days..but those who were below me in acads..are now faring much better than me...some have cleared upsc others gre or gate and some others cat...
i also want to do big...i know i can make it...but the real problem is i dont know what line to go for...
core sector...mba or upsc???
in all the three i lyk mba more but dont know why...may be their polished lyf!!
but i am not able to reason out properly why mba??
how i can decide is mba meant for me or not???

(filled xlri only).missed out on sectionals.. i only filled iim and xlri as i had a great job on campus in my fav profile in the company the smart cube.. they didn't give me joining in recession in 2008 and had to join tcs.. was so frustrated with tcs that did not give cat 2008 and didn't do much in cat 2009.. tried hard this yr again.. managed a 97 this yr in cat.. got rejects from sibm,scmhrd,iift,ximb and a few more good colleges.. converted imt g and gim. have deposited the fees in gim as imt g is not at all good.. i even resigned from my company but now i am having second thoughts of going for mba from gim. i think i am wasting my talent but the problem is i have pathetic acads which i believe is the major reason for my rejects in so many places.. i know i can crack any exam but i can't change my acads now.. also my projects is one of the worst any1 can get.. domestic project and loads of work load.. so not even a good profile for me here as well.b schools abroad rarely take ppl from IT without onsite.
some of my frnds advice me to go for mba this yr and if u don't get ur choice of profile do a 2nd mba from usa after 3-4 yrs job.. am really confused what to do.. please guys help.. i am really really confused..

GIM is a good B-School, you even have experience which will be a plus point.
considering you are not having good opportunities in work presently and poor acads which you cannot change, you can go for GIM

Hey buddy, if u think u r not doing justice to ur talent and if u r not convinced about studying at GIM, then i suggest u re-think your plans of pursuing MBA this year. GIM is great place to study. But if you have to spend 2 most important years of your life there, and you yourself are not convinced about it, then please think again. (sorry for repeating the sentence again - if it makes more impact).
I think you should again introspect and really figure out what went wrong in the GD-PI that you gave at all the above B-Schools. I believe getting a call is only half the work done, the real and most important half begins once you start preparing for the interviews. And if u think you are not good at interviews , start preparing for them right since the beginning.
Also talk to some faculty/director of TIME/IMS or some B-School pass outs. Also figure out which colleges give more weightage to performance in GD-PI rather than past acads.
Or the other way would be look at the pros of joining GIM and cons of not joining a B-school at all and accordingly make a choice. All the best buddy.

Im currently pursuing BE from Delhi college of engineering ,IT branch 3rd year.
Let me come straight to the point.I have 92% in 10th ,78 in 12th and 52 till 4 sems in BE.I dont know how this may sound..but considering Application rating and all ...do you guys think I could make it to IIM calcutta (the only IIM which considers CAT scores only and not THAT much to previous acads..
So ..if I do manage to get 99.5+ percentile..then do u think I could get a call?
Or..is it that this 52 percent have made IIMs way out of my league..Coz I havnt heard ANYONE getting 52 percent in btech making it to IIM..
