Hi friends Im currently pursuing BE from Delhi college of engineering ,IT branch 3rd year. Let me come straight to the point.I have 92% in 10th ,78 in 12th and 52 till 4 sems in BE.I dont know how this may sound..but considering Application rating and all ...do you guys think I could make it to IIM calcutta (the only IIM which considers CAT scores only and not THAT much to previous acads.. So ..if I do manage to get 99.5+ percentile..then do u think I could get a call? Or..is it that this 52 percent have made IIMs way out of my league..Coz I havnt heard ANYONE getting 52 percent in btech making it to IIM..
First of all its 99.66%ile for IIM-C this year and not 99.5(it matters) and secondly you should work harder to cross 60% as you have got 4 more sems to rectify your scores so that this issue does not come up. As for selection criteria, IIM general criteria is 60% in grad so you are out on this one. All the Best.

just a thought ...u still hav 4 sems right..i think u shd really work towards improving ur aggregate , if possible, as for ur query iim ranchi is also mainly cat based
guys really need some advice.. I gave my first cat in 2007 got 99.2in cat(filled only iim's) got 2 calls both reject. got a xat of 99.77. (filled xlri only).missed out on sectionals.. i only filled iim and xlri as i had a great job on campus in my fav profile in the company the smart cube.. they didn't give me joining in recession in 2008 and had to join tcs.. was so frustrated with tcs that did not give cat 2008 and didn't do much in cat 2009.. tried hard this yr again.. managed a 97 this yr in cat.. got rejects from sibm,scmhrd,iift,ximb and a few more good colleges.. converted imt g and gim. have deposited the fees in gim as imt g is not at all good.. i even resigned from my company but now i am having second thoughts of going for mba from gim. i think i am wasting my talent but the problem is i have pathetic acads which i believe is the major reason for my rejects in so many places.. i know i can crack any exam but i can't change my acads now.. also my projects is one of the worst any1 can get.. domestic project and loads of work load.. so not even a good profile for me here as well.b schools abroad rarely take ppl from IT without onsite. some of my frnds advice me to go for mba this yr and if u don't get ur choice of profile do a 2nd mba from usa after 3-4 yrs job.. am really confused what to do.. please guys help.. i am really really confused..
as far as i hav been able 2 find out...i think the us universities are not too shy of admitting ppl with avg work ex (i know some ppl frm infy with avg work ex who gone to some top universities), also goin by ur performances u shd easily be able to crack gmat with a 700+ plus score.so u shd make it some top 20 university

I messed on that one. Its 50% on grad score. Check Indian Institutes of Management for criteria. This is the official website. With 2+ years of workex, you can get into IIM-L also. So you have an option of working 2 years and then opting for CAT.Work hard and all the best for IIM-C.
Sorry to differ on this, but I would never suggest anyone to sit at home and prepare for an entrance exam. This could work for engineering entrance, but not for MBA entrance. The Gap in your work would be tough to explain.

hey .. i will defer on that..i was working my schedule was extremely hectic .. i had no option but to take a break and prepare for entrance. most of the colleges did not ask me what i did after quiting and i gave honest answer to the ppl who asked, that i was preparing..
its just that u have to be clear on your side...dont follow any one analyse your situation and take a step..if u know what u are doing no body will have any objection
Kindly help me puys. I am 2009 engineering passout (electronics and communication). Since I wasnt interested in taking up an job in engineering and IT. I went for an part time mba program (the classes were only on mon to wed that too only 2 hrs daily) and then joined an company in 2010. The first year was an gr8 experience as I was involved with research and preparing business cases. Lately this month my boss had resigned and his duties were given to me. Now I am being asked to manage a working project (civil construction job in power sector) which were managed by him for 6 months as he was an civil engineer with 7 year exp. Had no clue abt the project and one fine day they said I would have to take care of it. I havent visited the site and I have no clue how to execute an civil job. Though it involves only managing I will be held accountable here after for the project which is going in loss. There are several problems like labour payment, vendor payment I am finding it extremely difficult to understand how it is to be done but the management says I should grow which I am finding as pathetic as asking an ece guy with no exp to manage an civil job. I am planing to run away from the job and search for something better. I also have planned to join an mba institute next year for sure and prepare for my entrance exams right away. So puys I want ur opninon with regard to am I doing the right thing or should I not run from my responsiblities. I have planned to join in an consulting or finance company after completing my mba.i am scared to quit as I have lost one year doing nothing (09 10) as I dont think I gained substanially in that part time program.Its not just one project that is going to be handed over to me, there is one more project in the pipeline which is an substation project. I do agree every job means growing into it but i am getting only 2.16lakhs as ctc and have to work till 8 or 9 pm. I mean i have no exp wrt project management, but i am being asked to get 100% result.I am in chennai and i have to manage people in indore as the site is in indore.i did inform my management abt my probs, but it was still passed on.I would have continued with the job had i had an opportunity to see the project right from the beginning, but the project had been going on for past 5 months and now i have to continue that. I am looking for an better job which would help me during the mba placement ( consulting or finance)

I am going nowhere .After 12th got admission in st. stephens thro sports quota ,prents dint allow me to do B.Sc Dropped a year ffor IIT cleared AIEEE.Joined college never thght of an MBA as was very mch into technical.Thght of prep for PSU's managed to clear written of 3 exams but no final converts.Joined TCS and now its 1.5 years and now m going nowhere I have applied to Teach for India so that I may get @least some satisfaction from work despite sitting and coding here.Aiming CAT-2011 got 95 percentile in CAT-08 and GATE-08.After joining organization I think my mind is rusted .
Can anyone guide where I m going and where I should go?

Firstly, Why dont you consider VGSoM as an option? VGSoM is a nice college with good placements. You can get good consulting profiles after MBA from VGSoM.+ the fees in comparison with IIFT is less(8Lacs). You can prepare 1 more year and try for GMAT(ISB) and give CAT again. That depends on yourself only. If you feel that you will be able to clear next year for better colleges, then you should do that. Join only if you are happy and all your doubts are cleared.
Yes it definitely helps but upto a certain extent only. If you want IB profile, you can get it in IIM ABC only. I think the problem with your case is your workex. As you already have 4 years workex in IT, it will create issues in getting you jobs in other profiles Rest is upto you. All the Best and congos for converts

I think IIFT-D and IIFT-K has got a common placement process correct me if I'm wrong, so if placement is the issue there shouldn't be a problem joining IIFT-K

you can go wherever u want dude , ur situation ain't bad at all , you have a job @ hand as well , the only prblem is that you are frustrated with the job , so just concentrate on preparing for cat 11 and leave the job if u get a good convert

now everyone in family is taking on me, questioning all the decisions of life that i have taken. why did i took commerce? why did i fight with my dad for not taking engg. yaar, i was fascinated by economics. wanted to learn accounts. kya galat kiye. never thought all this will pose problems in life. moreover i am riding the guilt of living on my parents expenses.
feel so helpless right now, completely worthless i am. want to run away from everything, everyone.

man, i passed out last year. college mein placements nai hue. i found a job in a start up event management firm. after 3 months it went down. it wasnt even registered or anything, so cant prove that i was working. i studied hard for CAT, but it didnt worked out well.
I have IMI kolkata, but i am uncertain. sometimes i feel good about it, but then i remember the colleges i was targeting when i started preparing for CAT.
the point is i dont have a job, i have been looking for some in job portals but with no success. all i get is BPOs.

But the thing is i don't want to go to these colleges as I know i can do better if given one more chance but my family members and friends are advising me to join this year only as it would be risky going next year and giving exams again........ puys!! I need your advice.....should i go for next year again or join a college by making compromise to myself....i have 17 months of work ex (IT)so far and age is also against me(24 now)so obviously it would be odd sitting with young students and studying with them next year.....
I am very confused and disheartened.....My mind is saying to join a college this year only as afterall how one studies in a college matters rather than from which college u have studied....
but my heart is saying that i have some thing in me to prove myself and i should go for next year and give another shot.....
I get different views and opinions when i ask people ragarding that thus making me confused and frustrated....

2. u will get either better college or if not then definitely colleges which u r getting now...plus with added exp, so win win situation.
3. age (24-25) into getting b-school is normal...dont worry on this

hello , you are really very confused , but this is the thing that happen with every aspirant at same stage . i think u should (read must) give another shot this year , why compromise ? ur %ile is good , which u hv improve n thats it ! i'll suggest u to go from all post of thread ' all i wanted to speak abt cat ' (especially anupam mujumdar, skr's posts) u will realise thr are many ppl who made through cat facing the prob. like u are facing 2day. but BE FIRM with the decision u will take . i hope u will go with ur heart . bye harshad
