hello everyone
i am a newbie on PG
i would like to share my life with everyone
i was a bright student from the beginning
got good percentage in my X (87% - CBSE)
was good at maths but parents and relatives forced me into taking BIO(they wanted one of their family member to be doctor.....i was too simplistic to retaliate and so took their sayings .....said to myself yes i can do it ....my mind was occupied by thoughts like OH what money will i make....it seemed like clearing PMT was the only hurdle i faced and afterlife would be glorious)
went through my 11th and 12th and gave AIPMT
in phy chem portion i did very well ... bio went below avg.
anyways cracked it in my first attempt(most the students do it after 1 year drop) with a 86% in my 12th board (cbse)
took a MBBS seat at Govt. medical college raipur (chattisgarh)
3years went by i was not happy with what i was studying ...still didnt say anything and ignored the feeling...... passed all my exams with an avg. score
i was busy having fun with my friends enjoying the city after all i was away from my parents for the first time
during my 3rd year of exam preparation a thought came to my mind "is this what i want to study my entire life" the answer was a clear "no"
the exams ended and i scored avg. again
then i started to research what i could do other than doing post graduation
came to know of CAT ....did some research.....everything attracted me towards it..... and suddenly i wanted to do MBA.....sole reason being that it will change by line of work completely
again did some research this time had a chat with a few IIM DOC individuals...... and found that i didnt have any real answers to WHY MBA ?
by nature i am an introvert ....i am not a debater nor a leader
but yes i believe that i can change and i am confident to face the challenges that lies ahead
but sometimes i face apprehension
what concerns me :
"what if i dont fit into MBA"
"what if the qualities one requires for being a good manager are inborn and cannot be worked upon"
i may sound pessimistic...but please understand that this is the biggest decision of my life and this time i want it to be right...
respected seniors i need your help.... am i heading in the right direction?
please reply
yours sincerely
shashank

You aren't supposed to cross post across threads. You've already posted the same query here and have got a reply too:

If someone wants to reply, he/she would reply on that post of yours, so no need to post in different threads to get different opinions. Would be better if you go through the PG rules here:

And one from my personal experience...
I scored 46 percentile in one of the Aimcat's last year.. i was devastated... My scores in Aimcats were low anyway and 46 really got me down...
I took another mock for a change .. It was a CL mock which I got from a friend and I got 97.xx there......
So.. just go for a different mock to restore some confidence back... and if you still don't do well... Just keep preparing... because all that matter is those 2 and half hours when you are sitting writing CAT.... I hope the post which I have given above helps you .. 😃

There are good chances for getting into a good B-School!
Forget about workex now as CAT is nearing and 2-3 months workex is of no use. Just concentrate on percentile. Once you get good percentile, B-Schools will call you for GDPI.
From my own experience, B-Schools call for GDPI based on percentile score. How to tackle this question (what you did in these years?) in PI is upto you.
Remember, There always is a positive inspirational answer or justification for any question...
hi..this is my first post..i have just gotten into my final year of degree,so i ll be taking CAT for the first time.Though I had made this decision long ago,i have to convince myself everyday that i actually want to do it.My problem is lack of motivation.I am not satisfied with my undergraduate course at all n what i look forward to is few years of great education and learning;where people consider me as an individual n I learn in my way.So somehow, the usual factors that seem to motivate others that is -"a good job","lots of moolah","status" or even "work satisfaction" do not mean much to me.(i wonder if i am wrong!)...
As far as my preparation goes, i love the verbal ability questions..though that doesnt mean i am super good at them.My quant is a matter of chance.I havent studied much there,so that shows in my scores too.DI..least said the better!..overall the situation is dismal..i go through this forum n find people all geared up..people repeatedly attempting cat..(why?)..
My interests are more related to Arts, but i never pursued them,so they are just potrayed through the poems n short stories that i write.I feel strongly for the weaker sections of the society n wish to relate my life to them somehow..but i still wonder if i can work at the very lowest level myself or is it just some random fascination
..Finally,i love to just sit n think..
I am in a serious need of some confidence n advice that can make me muster up courage to take these tests..i wont back off..n wanna put up a good fight..but the time is running..n fast..

A pretty serious question indeed

try giving MOCKS.. may be d good (or bad
) results may give u sum motivation
Happy journey 2 CAT 😃
phoenix98 SaysReg question 2 : I too was in your shoes . I left my job and prepared for 6-7 months . Whenever I was asked about my job during interview,I confidently told about my job profile and NEVER TOLD about my quiting of job in ADVANCE. In most of the cases (90%) , I successfully moved ahead with the next question.
quitting job is always high risk high gain decision. Do it only if u r very sure u ve to join this yr itself. u lose on money as well.
trust me if u work sincerely u can do it nicely wid job as well.
personally i wud recommend to play safe

You may be interested in social entrepreneurship. This way, not only can you make a meaningful career, but also do something for society.
This is among the fastest emerging fields in entrepreneurship.
And when I say social entrepreneurship, I don't just mean NGOs helping out rural/urban poor. Even WikiPedia.org is an example of social entrepreneurship.

Just keep faith in your abilities. Last year at this time i was also going through the same situation. I had begun preparing seriously for CAT around this time. I was good in QA & DI, okay in LR & very very poor in VA. In fact most of the time i used to get single digit scores in VA which caused a lot of frustration inside me. While attempting VA section I was not able to keep my concentration level up to the mark as a result i had very pathetic accuracy in VA (around 40%).
After 4-5 mocks, I took a small break of 3-4 days from VA, and made a new plan to handle this section. I used to take at least 1 sectional test on VA (time had provided 30 sectional test and CL test gym had many sectional test). As a result my accuracy in this section improved to some extent. As a result my VA %ile has reached around 70. Then i further analysed my mocks. I started targeting the areas where i was feeling comfortable. And ultimately after 2 months of serious effort, i cleared the VA cutoff for the very first time. This performance really boosted my confidence and i started to feel lot comfortable with VA. Even though initially i was very bad in VA, still I ended up getting 95%ile in VA at CAT.
Still you have lots of time to improve. If you are not feeling well in a particular section then give emphasis on basics and to improve your concentration level start giving sectional test.

After reading your post, all i can say is that you are not satisfied with your life and the main reason behind this, is the fact that most of the decision that you have taken have been influenced by others choice ( ie people around you). Don't worry this is very common problem faced by lot of individuals.
To overcome this problem i would suggest that you should start making your decision yourself. But this doesn't means that you should start disrespecting others decision, as they also want to see you happy.
Few points that i would like to mention-
-Make your long term goal yourself ie the ultimate thing that you want to achieve in your life, whether you want highly paid job or you want to become an entrepreneur. In your case you have mentioned that you want to do something on your own.
-Be realistic while making your goal. There is no point in making unrealistic goals.
Also it is going to take some time to achieve your goal, just like in cricket, a batsman needs at least 17 balls to score a century.
So don't lose hope at any moment even if things are not going your way.
- Start taking small initiative. Like you have mentioned that you feel for weaker section of society, so you can join some NGO to help them. Also start indulging in activities in which your are interested .
- Remember that reaching the goal is just like climbing a building, you need to take many steps to reach at the top. Be flexible and work smartly during this journey.
As far as preparation is concerned, start it as early as possible. Still you have 100 days, so you can score well provided you study for 5-6 hours daily. Give emphasis on each section. Analyse the type of Questions which are asked in previous 10 years. Find out your strength and weakness.
also give some time on GK and social issues as they are asked in TISS & IRMA.
And at any time if you feel losing your motivation, then just give a thought about the people (who are not fortunate as we are) & whose life could get changed if you fulfill your dreams :).

Dear friends,
My wk-ex will be 3 yrs by 2010 CAT. My age is 24.10th marks = 90%, 12th marks= 93%, graduation (B.Tech) = 75%. My cat 2008 score is 88% without much preperation. I seriously prepared for 2009, did well in mocks avaraging 93% but made big blunder in 1st online CAT 09, score was in 70s. At the same time (2009),SNAP score (90 marks), JMET (AIR 480). But i didnt get what i was looking for.
This year i have joined PT. Prac CAT-1 = 90.36%, Prac CAT-2 = 99.16%. again i did blunder in prac CAT-3 score is in 62%. i am devastated now after having good start. My psychological problem is that i cant hold the expectations as you see my prac CAT-3 results (though it was easy paper). I am a big MBA aspirant n ready to do any hardwork,it is very clear that this is do or die for me as my work-ex is already 3 yrs. I think that i can do it but my past results are holding me back. I sincerely need some wise words from you people. Can anybody give me solution on my inconsistant performance and lack of cofidence problem?

success@aum SaysI sincerely need some wise words from you people. Can anybody give me solution on my inconsistant performance and lack of cofidence problem?
Hi Buddy,
Reading your post, i feel that major reason for not being able to perform well after 2-3 good performances is the expectation which you hold from yourself in terms of performance. I would suggest you to go and take each mock as a fresh mock with no pressure of what you scored in previous mock.Take every mock at its own merit. All mocks are not same in terms of difficulty level and hence any pre conceived feel might hurt you in the mock.
This does not mean to not improve on the mistakes which you made in previous mocks. You should analyze the previous mock, identify your mistakes and work on them. And, try not to repeat those mistakes in next mock. But, do not take the score of previous mock ahead in your mind while writing next mock. This will help you in improvising on your mistakes with no pressure of score which you had in last mock.
Remember, CAT has always been more of an attitude game than being an aptitude game. Hence, what matters more is your mindset while you start taking a mock or real CAT. Also, do not worry on these few mock scores as mock scores are for introspection and self analysis ... working on identified strengths and weaknesses. They are not the reflection of your score in real CAT 😃
Hope this helps,
Varun
Hi Varun,
i totally agree with you that CAT is more attitude game. i will try my best. thanx alot for advice.
hey im sameer.. i have done b.com(hons) and presently im pursuing MA Economics from Panjab University.. & planning to pursue MBA after that...well... i have a question in my mind which is bothering me a lot... Nothing is a matter of concern brother, if u can defend it
Jus think of some valid reason n u shall crack it!!!
Not a major concern
In fact, some top tier colleges give additional weoghtage if u ve done masters
