Friends, I have completed my engineering last year. there are 2 gaps in acadamic years. I can give 1000 reasons for that but fact is i failed. I donot have much to talk about extra curricular because i was never in that also. The only reason behind this Great failure that can be given, is that I WAS NEVER INTERESTED IN ENGINEERING and i just enjoyed the life. I never used my potential. The word 'hard work' was completely opposite to me. But now after coming in market i know what i have done. I got chance in 4 companies including PERSISTANT based on my technical knowledge but i lost all of them because of my acadamic record. There are not much achievements to impress. But after i got bad exeperience, i worried little about my future. I knew that i just want 1 chance in life to get myself on good track in life. After thinking alot i chose to go for management. To make sure that my decision is right i took SWAT and SWOT tests. The results of these tests, my own desire and interest for management, my needs, considering everything i thought my decision was right. So i made it final.
But when i made it final, it was 1st february 2010. So for management only one exam was remained and that was MAH-CET. I filled up the form and exam was going to be held on 21st february 2010. I got only 20 days to prepare. I didnot join any coaching. For those 20 days i did hard work as well as smart work. I used my each and every minute. Also i studied effieciently Working on each type of questions. I solved near about 25 papers. After the result i got 104/200. For 20 days preparation it was satisfactory but not best. I know i could have done better if i had got at least 2 to 3 months. In these days i came to know what a real hard work means. I got confidence that i donot lack it. I tried my best till last moment.
Considering i wasnot matured enough at the time of selecting engineering, i'll say i m not a looser. I have got potential and guts to win. So, Friends these questions are for all those who are facing same situation like me..
I want to know
1. how to handle the situation if interviewers ask about the acadamics?
I believe that acadamics is important but not everything. In my case nobody can evaluate me based on my acadamics because it was not my train.(i was in wrong train). Also.. past mistakes can be ignored if present is good and chance can be given to prove the future.
I know it is hard to have solution in such case but yet some people can really have solution on this..So suggetstions are always welcome..

in 90% of the cases you will be considered as a fresher.
however, if you have strong convincing skills then you can convince the interviewer (while MBA admission or while job interview) to give you the requisite. 😃

Most of the companies that come for placements look at the overall months of experience to differentiate between freshers and laterals. Most colleges/companies set this number at 24 months (2 years). However, some companies may ask for relevant experience. Then you may miss out if the company doesn't belong to the IT industry. Anyway, such instances are rare and probably constitute only 10-15 % of the total offers at maximum.

and i dont have a job yet actually i am not satisfied with my performance in cat this yr although i had some decent callsfrom institutes like tapmi,fore(ib),narsee monjee ...i cudn convert narsee monjee,am in the waitlist of tapmi i mean have no confirmed call yet..i was thinkin of having another shot at these entrance examz this yr...do you think if i prepare well i mean do i stand a chance of getting into an "a" grade college with this profile..??

I have decent speaking skills , my profile is not that bad, still I am a big loser. I am so dejected at the moment that just cant see myself even giving an MBA ever in my life again. I think my life wud go down in a boring IT job.
I couldn't get into my dream engineering college when i was in my 12th and now i have been again thrown out of my last chance of doing something meaningful in my life. I think there's nothing called GOD in dis world when i see some my classmates getting into IIMS through quota,at even very low scores. At d moment.........I am completely dejected......
Hi guys! I m just avg. Guy in studies! 11,12 without maths, bsc(life science) delhi uni. My marks in graduation are also below avg. N i am joing an avg. B skul in delhi.. And i think dat i may nt perfrm very well in mba too. Bcz i m from sci. Backgrnd n without math in +2! But i will try my best to do hard work.. Hope dis time i'l do well in mba.. N get avg. assuming from your post i believe this is just your first attempt at cat, and this year a lot went wrong because of online cat so many people did not get any iim calls at 99%ile....
first of all you are wait listed in mdi, so there is still a chance.
second thing imt is not a bad choice u will find many other 99%ilers there
but if your aspirations are very high then try again next year and by then u will have some work ex also, so your profile will also improve, people give cat for so many years and then they get admission in good b schools......

@prem31jan: ranchi,rohtak are still in dere gdpi process. I would be attending tht but i am not too sure of d current quality of infrastructure and teachers. ranchi doesn't hav a permanent building so wud b accommodating d batch in ranchi's "soochna Bhawan" , and rohtak has gt a building at rent frm m.d university, dese colgs wud tk time till dey r at par wid other iims.
@ambikagupta: yes, indeed, dis was my first attempt, but I have bn prprng fr MBA exams fr last 16 months, I was among d toppers of C.L's mock series, I have been a throughout topper at my school and college, AND after all such efforts and performances when u r nt even given a CALL, thn it hurts, I know many dint gt a call even at 99%le, but tht only makes me feel tht d whole system has become literally a farce. lot of people write a lot of things...i m damn sure u r still in trouble...becz they are in same boat as u r....now i m going to say u something very hard fact..u ,me and all know this fact..lets me ve the first one share the truth..or u can say having the courage to say the truth...well every human being need happiness...no one want sorrows,tension or u can say negativity...so everyone is beggear....see the moment ur gal freind feel that her past boy friend give her more satisfaction in every aspect of life then she simply left u...and this thing happen all over the world....this is the biggest fact of life that no one ve that much of courage to love u until and onless he or she get true happiness...becz she also needy and u also...and she found that previous one is bettre so she just left u...it just ur perception that she still loves u or she doesn't want to hurt u....so accept the truth....now see in ur family....if u r succesfull then everyone loves u...but the moment u get failure they strartd grumbling on u....so if our family member couldn't love us without any reason so how can we expect from a gal to love us to whom u meet for few yeas only ving no blood relation...so accept the fact...hindi main kahun to swarth jayda pyar jayda swarth kam pyar kam....the solution is make a aim in ur life...so busy to get that aim that u forget her...other option also there but it simply wast ur time....yar life is to live....love urself...be proud be what u r...but if u r not serious and stand up now in futre u meet more un usual situation...see today u get a kick one day she get...every one is here in the same situition...stand up...kuch karke dikhao...ye pya vyar sab dhoka hai...

Even i had poor academics in 12th and B.E and though it's very difficult to justify ur poor academics , it can be justified to an extent with your own common sense and avoiding the topic altogether.
Incase,if u r ever told to answer a questions like : "Tell me about urself " ,never ever mention about ur academics and also if asked about poor marks u can always pin point few of the subjects u might hv scored good and others as out of interest . Also,if u can support ur answer with something like illness,some other reasons like taking up business/part-time job etc. then it will be great but u need to be prepared thoroughly and ready for any counter question 😃

Before giving another shot at CAT,i would recommend u to get a job first although it might be difficult but try to get some hands in finance sector or a marketing company and prepare well for CAT'10 and other exams as a gap of almost 2 years after ur graduation might go against u in PI as ur profile is a decent one(not the best ) ...

One of the reasons for taking irrespective of branches is that almost all IT companies provide training initially in which they make you learn about the work which they will be asking you to do .... Like , according to requirements in Java, they will train people in Java and put them in Java projects ... and all engineers are expected to be good in logic and they can easily learn the syntax of any language ... and can become capable of doing the work expected from them by these companies.
Engineers generally start to hate as they realize soon that the work given to them is not allowing them to be innovative, independent in creativity and biggest reason being that work they are doing can be done by anyone
and it does not require them to be engineers.IT in true sense is 'independence terminator ' : ' Identified Tension' :
PS: Despite all this, there are people who love IT industry and want to develop their career in this field .
