My biggest weakness is lack of concentration. I can't concentrate after 30 minutes of rigorous study and for this reason i am unable to perform to my best in any exam. Please suggest what should i do so that my conc increases.
Just maximize those 30 minutes. Make sure you study well in those 30 minutes, take a break of 10 minutes or so, study for another 30 minutes. Studying in sessions should take care of the concentration problem.

Thanks avinav,
The problem is to stay concentrated for 2.5 hrs at a stretch. I can take intermittent breaks in normal study but during exam, its not possible to take break , hence i lose concentration. Do you mean to say that if i continue doing study as proposed by you, i will be able to concentrate during exams too?
I am very confused ,please help me puys,i have got selected in FORE(IB) and NIBM,pune, the problem is that now i have to choose that in which institute should i go,my father is insisting me to go to FORE due to its brand name and he is saying that after 2 yrs of study,i will have all the options open, and if i will go to NIBM,i will only be restricted to Banking ,i wont be able to go to any other sector, and ,till now,i just know that i have a little interest in finance and no interest in marketing, and i dont know about finance in deep,so,i have to decide wher to go,i can go to NIBM,but the major problem is that if i will go to NIBM,nad after two years of study,if i will be able to know that banking is not for me,then i will not be able to switch to any other scetor and i will have to do MBA again..........

Concentrating during exams is different. You can practice doing that by taking mocks etc., but before that, it's more important to study and be clear about the concepts. You can later take mocks and build your concentration during exams.

I think u should go for FORE because it has gud brand value ....it will increase your scope in market................ And as u r not sure that u have deep interest in banking or not then don't go for NIBM(don't limit your skills & knowledge)....if u find that u enjoy finance then later on ...after doing mba from Fore u can go for banking as MBA(finance) is the requirement of private/foreign banks....

oh....you are wrong. First you need to identify your correct weakness.
Lack of concentration means you cant do anything for 30 minutes (watching movies, doing net, playing some sport, PGing, etc) If you cannot concentrate in these, then your problem is of concentration.

Give more and more of mocks, that too in a group. The hunger of performing well will get you over this. Also try shuffling with your attempt of a particular section first. Sometimes start with eng followed by di n maths. again sometimes start with maths followed by... this will help you assess that section where you are able to concentrate more in the last 1 hr- 45 min and plan accordingly.
Also attempt your questions with shuffling the sections in accordance to time. i mean to say first 15 min eng then attempt 20 min di, again 15min eng followed by 20 min maths followed by...and so on. At this stage you have the time to experiment and analyse because after the results you wont be able to give this justification that you faired badly coz u couldnt concentrate...
I was with one of the IT majors for 3 years until I quit my job in Jan for lack of interest and motivation in the coding job. Hence decided to go for MBA.
I had only MH CET on hand and just 3 weeks for preparation. With extremely low on confidence and lack of time, I scored just 86.14 percentile which is extremely low for any decent college.
I had applied for PG programs for some colleges and I have made it through to IES Mumbai in the first list. I am in a huge dilemma whether to take up this college. Also, the college management is smart to retain its students. We are asked to pay the fees by 1st Jun else we lose our seat. Also, if we cancel the admission for any reason after 15th June, we have to forfeit the entire fees of 2.1 Lakhs.
I also have Dalmia, MET and Chetna PG GD PI rounds on hand but extremely confused coz of the IES cancellation clause.
Also, I wish to go for an MBA this year itself. Coz I am no more interested in IT and wish to change my field. So MBA is the only option left.
Guys, please advise me what to do next. I am seeing a dark tunel and with to get rid of this phase of my life asap.

Hi Rakshak,
I would not comment on any college ,but before deciding on any college pls go through the returns like learning exp ,Package ,alumni etc .
You have a good work ex .Why not try for GMAT and go for MBA abroad ?or give the exams another shot ,there are other colleges also like SP jain GMBA program ,that are one yr programs and offer good scope. So you dont have dark tunnel ahead but unlimited oppurtunites ,you will jus have to explore.
I myself have 2.5 yrs of work exp and have already given all exams dis season, but havent got through any yet ,now plannin on GMAT or other exams .
So decide what is best for you and All the best !!

Thanks for your encouraging words.
But I have already quit my job and it is difficult for me to take one again in IT since I have no interest left in it. Hence decided to do MBA.
I also had thought of GMBA by SPJain and had appeared their test, but could not clear the same.
Time is ticking by fast and I have to decide asap. Time is the bloody problem.

hi Rakshak,
AFAIK, you should not just choose any college just because you want to get out of something, without properly knowing where and why do you want to do a particular thing. Try to learn more about the college, talk to their alumni, check out whether its a good match for you. I understand you cannot buy time from them, but dude, you gotta know more before deciding.
I also understand its hard to give up a college when you've an admit , but yes, there might be something better waiting for you. Its ok to take some chances. Try to find out the scopes in other colleges.
Hi Puys, I am facing a problem for which i need your valuable suggestion. I am working in a BIG software company with lakhs of other SEs like me.Now due to space constraints they have put 8-10 people in the same cubicle!! It looks like a cyber cafe, even worse that that as there are no partitions between the pcs except for the cpu cabinet. Now u can imagine well my situation here. I finish off the work very fast, say the estimate given is 3 days but i finish it in 1 day itself in hope that the time which i will save will be utilised in the preparation.I want to utilise all my free time for CAT but given this scenario its difficult for me to prepare as there is always noise around me with IT jargons like FCR, REQ,Delivery etc etc (and i hate to hear these words).Given this situation, its not possible for me to use pen/paper and solve Quants/DI questions also. Now i dont try to do any calculation related stuff (quants/di) but rather i try to read articles online and sometimes solve some VA questions but i dont get concentration. I am not quite sure if this is the best way to utilise the available time and if there are better options available. Please suggest.

In such a scenario, I don't think anyone can concentrate and study in office. Moreover, with so many people around you always, you risk a chance of getting reported. The better way would be to finish your work as early as possible, complete the minimum time required in the office, get home and prepare. You might not have internet to read online but atleast you have some peace to concentrate. Besides, if you practice offline, you can very well continue online as well, not at all a big deal as is made out to be.
in addition to the general reading habit, I'd suggest you to regularly visit the quant and LR threads here at PG, along with other online resources which you prefer, so that you get to solve questions without physically writing them.
in fact, this is the very principle of the famous book - think without ink. if you are getting a chance to sharpen your skills in that direction, you must take it as a challenge and go for it.
also, i believe, the noise around your cubicle will test your dedication and will definitely help you achieve higher mental concentration levels as compared to your peers. 😃

If u come to know about some innovative techniques on 'how to concentrate in such circumstances',then please share the information with me as the information may prove handy if there is again a CAT fiasco this year.

Thanks Raghav and avinav for your useful inputs. raghav, u have really given a different angle to this situation by telling that its an opportunity to increase my concentration and focus Really man, that has given me a positive energy. You know what, most people in IT believe that the longer a guy works on something, the more he is diligent and loyal to the company than the guy who finishes work faster:) I feel sometimes they are on fire when they see me browsing forums, using smileys while typing something, and reading articles online Pathetic!!

I guess Raghav and avinav has covered all, but still if i find something else, i will def let u know 😃

P.S-->I am not spamming just venting out my frustration!!
