Query Regarding Sikkim Manipal University Distance learning Course - 10-11-2009, 03:22 PM

Hello To Everyone!!

I am a third semester student of BBA (SMUDE). My query is - I heard from my Sikkim Manipal learning center teacher that SMU Distance Learning courses are no longer recognized by UGC and DEC. It means that after completing my BBA course my degree will not be legal, of no use and i will no longer be able to sit in CAT and MAT Exams. I am in shock after listening to my teachers. I asked my senior and even he is in confusion. Please reply to me regarding these questions - Is SMU Distance Learning Courses (BBA) recognized?
- Will i be able to sit in CAT and MAT Exams?

Hope You Guys Will Reply Soon.

Tough luck mate!!!
I can understand your condition... But anyways most CAT and MAT colleges dont accept Graduations done through Distance Education. I hate to break this news to you, but I guess you wont be eligible for CAT after all...
I had a friend who had completed his second year BBA from Rai university, when it lost its recognition. He then joined Bachelors in Management studies in my college. But as soon as our first year was completed, he got a call from the college stating that Rai is now affiliated with YCMOU. Lets hope something of this sort works out!!

Best of luck buddy!!

Easy way out is to do some correspondence course from some recognized university.
It might take another 3 year but you will be eligible for cat 2011 and all cat after that.

Thanks mate for the information. But will i be able to join I.P. University by giving their own entrance exam Or Amity by giving their Amcat exam. Do they accept students who complete their graduation via distance learning. I just want to know about these two colleges. Please reply soon and thanks again.

Dear Abhishek,
Hi, Tina here, i read ur problem but i just read a few days back on the newspaper that SMUDE has recieved the joint committee approval ie (UGC-DEC-AICTE), so no need to worry, and after the course you can give the exams.

Bye n take care.

Regards,
Tina

It means that sikkim manipal cannot open its learning center outside sikkim and i am studying in delhi. and according to ugc there is no joint committee approval/ If you have any source through which u got information pls let me know as soon as possile...

Re: Query Regarding Sikkim Manipal University Distance learning Course - 13-12-2009, 12:30 AM

Hi Friends and whosoever is ignorant about this question and is still answering without knowing the facts..
First of all, the news about Sikkim Manipal University Flashed on News questioning its recognition was false and the News Channel (Sahara) offered written apology to the University as proofed on the University Website.
Secondly, the University is UGC Recognized and is infact receiving awards as officially declared by UGC Chairperson.
Then the University has been granted extension of its previous DEC status and will be permanent in the coming days. Permanent means for the future Students. Degrees on 2007 September and before, as well as the present degrees are already declared DEC recognized on the PostFacto Basis. Please check this document from DEC: (I've attached the same file in my message in case the link does not work)
http://dde.smuhmts.edu/download/anno...iversities.pdf

List of Approved Universities by DEC Document from DEC website:

Sikkim Manipal University recognised by the Distance Education Council of India:: Education, Careers & Professional News

Regarding CAT and MBA, I'm a passed out Student of BScIT in 2007 and after working in Microsoft and Dell, I enrolled for CAT and now doing MBA regular (Through CAT ofcourse). One fellow from my City, a student of BSc(IT)+MSc(IT) SMU-DE has been selected in IAS and his photograph came in local Chandigarh newspaper. I think that answers your queries... Moreover, while filling CAT Bulletin, you will see Sikkim Manipal University in the list of eligible Universities.

Lastly, check out this page:
Sikkim Manipal University Directorate of Distance Education - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So, no need to do a second graduation, focus on your performance on the present one and stop asking people questions like this....
