This thread is for the XLRI GLOBAL MBA call getters.
I believe , since this is a new programme we need to discuss as much as possible about the programme before we could invest into it.
I wish to get valuable insights from the elite group of call getters

Hi All,
If selected I am in for the program.
Reasons being
1- The courses taught will be like any other 2 year MBA program, and has all the required subjects.
2- We will not face faculty issue and on top of that will be taught by the renowned faculty of these colleges.
3- Course does include Global exposure, a must to get acquainted with the global business, both via curriculum and interaction with executives(mentioned in curriculum need to ding in further for this) curriculum page link -
Weatherhead Global MBA at Weatherhead School of Management
4-Fees for the course is reasonable if we consider the fees of other MBA colleges(15-17LPA) in INDIA itself.
5- Bank loans are available, though course is not approved by AICTE. Even ISB's 1 Year programme is not approved by AICTE.
6- The internship in the companies will help us recover some money(though not much )during the course of our MBA.
7- A batch of 60 is a manageable and it will also help us learn better.
I want your take on my thoughts,It will be better if you can give counter views.

pagalguy

People Results are out
Hey friends! This is yash and after too much pondering and being riddled by my own indecision and confusion I have decided that I AM OUT.I spoke to many people including many of you about my apprehensions and then based my decision by thinking about the complete picture. I wanted to share my views with those who are in /out/or still indecisive as it will be counter productive. So I feel this post will serve as a great tool for some good discussion.
Following are the reasons which helped me arrive at this decision:
1. Cost: Lets face it. The cost is too damn high for an MBA where you will be paid in India. The reason I am saying is that when one spends such an amount on a foreign education, he gets paid in dollars/pounds after he graduates. Thus one gets a good return for his investment for 3-4 yrs and then one can think of coming back. But in this case with all certainty as we will be graduating in India so we will get placed here. So for someone taking an education loan the subsequent EMI's will be too high. Taking the BEST CASE SCENARIO I am taking around 15 Lakh/year ctc at the time we graduate. That leaves me with approx 95k-1 lakh /month in hand(Please note that average salaries are very deceptive.(top200-250 offers are taken for arriving at a median).
2. Cost analysis : I did a basic cost analysis and I can share it with you if you want.I'll quickly get to the conclusion. You sould take this program if : (a) you have money and are self financing the program.(B)if you dont have any other options for mba+you are stuck in a job you just cannot continue. BUT
If you are taking up an education loan then let me assure you.It is just not worth the pain in the ass.EMI calculations I arrived at gave the figure of aprox 50k /month if we are taking a 10 year loan repayment interval .You will be 27 at the time you graduate. You will needing a car loan /a house loan and with such a heavy loan for 10 years you will be heavily burdened.
3. Placement prospects. : I believe we all will get placed in good companies. Its the first batch of program and with just 20 students to place it will be easy for proffs to get us placed. But lets be honest. I wont be working in firms like mckinsey/bcg/glodman for sure coz that wont happen. These companies have very strong criterias and they see a program's reputation not the college's. Yes, I feel that my views are a bit biased because I feel I have a strong background and given a year I can get into better programs and thus have a shot at these firms.
4. Network : I strongly believe that there are 2 things a good mba program in india gives is student.(a) First is a solid first job.(2) a very strong network. Now one thing about this network.XLRI's alumni base will be always there to support us and we can always use it for better career prospects. But lets be realistic here. We all have a similar background and know that for referreals and job recommendations the primary level of contact of help is always your batchmate /or in some cases your immediate seniors. In our case we will be graduating with a batch strength of 20 which is too too too small. Go 10 years down the line and imagine and compare 20 well placed friends with 300 well placed people. Just take a moment and get the feel of the last statement.300 well placed people is a huge huge thing and that is what everyone speaks of when they talk about a strong alumni network.
5. Reputation of global programs in India: No doubt xlri has a strong reputation. But a new program is always seen with a lot of skepticism and apprehensions by the industry. This exact skepticism trickles down on the global programs too. Global programs started previously by reputed institutes like sp jain/narsee monjee/even xlri have previously tanked. So there's no assurance that won't happen again.
6. Our own desperation for an MBA asap : I believe with 2-3 years of experience all of us are at a stage that we are too desperate to do an MBA as soon as a possible. So a reputed brand comes up with a new expensive program and all of us run behind it. You are not at fault either. With increasing competition in india we all have those insecurities and therefore the desperation. But lets be honest with ourselves. Many of us have a strong background and profile till now and in our heart know that we can get into better flagship programs if we appear of exams again but wants such a pain in the ass.
7. Foreign Students and the subsequent 'Exposure' we will get. : You must be kidding me!! We are speaking and thinking like a bunch of Indians who have never interacted with people from foreign origin. What kind of students will be coming from weather head or tongji, what is their background, what is the pedigree of these colleges. Where the **** are all these questions that are quite important. Last time I checked, weatherhead was finding it difficult to complete its quota of seats.
Please don't see it as a negative rant friends. I have strong apprehensions about this program. And after speaking to many candidates who 'are in' , I found their judgement is flawed.Som were doing it because they had no options, some because their parents were saying so, some because it's a ' global' program. Please be wise and think before taking a 30 lakhs loan.
Thank you
