The mods hate these kind of questions....but I've got to ask cause I don't trust 99% of the B School rankings out there.

If you had a choice between MICA and XIMB(Mktng), which would you choose and why?

I've been granted admission to both schools and although my mind is pretty much made up, I still want to hear what others have to say.

So, let's hear your SWOT analysis of each school,ppl!

im a foreign student who'd be joining the first batch of ximb students (that is if they do reach a decision by next week on our admission status)


Actually One of my Friend also told the same that this Year's Avearge Salary was about 5.5 but i cudn't find any link etc which confirms this Data(BTW i do believe him ) .Also this years Highest Palcement(salarywise) was in HSBC .Approx 12 Lakhs. It was i Heard in Martkt.

It would vary from person to person..If you are interested in media,adv then mica..if you want to keep your options open, then ximb...even if you are interested in marketing,then also ximb .. if placements are your priority then definitely ximb...mica is a gr8 school but it pretty much restricts your career options...

Hi this is in relation to what absolutely_clueless asked.....
I have a choice between NM , XIMB and IMT but i'm still a bit confused.

Personally i think i'll pick XIMB but 50% of the ppl i've asked NM would be a better option and the rest are in favor of XIMB .

i agree with neha there.i had my nmims gd/pi at the institute itself and i was not very impressed.Moreover they hv a big batch size of 240 and i think getting them all placed is really a struggle considering they r nowhere near the other big batch instis like IIMC and A.But they do claim 100% placements which is most definitely due to their gr8 locational advantage.they might get good finance placements becoz of the mumbai location(Mumbai is the finance guy's paradise).But then again,Mumbai itself has atleast 4 instis better than nmims.So it finally boils down to ur own priorities.
Neha has presented a wonderful pro/con analysis but i hv only one points
XIMB being best for ops after IIMB is one hell of an overstatement.Have u forgotten the IITs and NITIE?ops is their bread and butter stuff.
And abt students partying a lot in mumbai,i think those who party wud party anywhere.Doesnt make a diff.
So, we r gonna rock the party in the otherwise drab bbsr.



i m sorry shud hav been explicit i meant non-engg skools ...as in these skools only engg or B.Sc grads i beleve can apply i meant for b skools for whch every1 r elligible wit ny grads degree

I was wondering how come XIMB issued 180 calls for 120 seats. what if they don't get 60+ rejections. In that case, whos gonna suffer?

Considering only abt 20 waitlist nos. hv cleared in even SIBM.
but maybe,these are all misplaced assumptions...the IIMs r still to come.We may see a major exodus then.

called up admissions office today and talked regarding this issue. they said, "if your admission status is "selected", you need not worry about the number of seats. we have granted you admission and shall stand by it under any circumstances."

I made it to XIMB and rejected it last yr...but to be honest...XIMB n IIT kgp are almost at par with each other...the only diff that can be crucial is the IIT tag...I think I ll go for IIT....but if u hav work-ex then go for XIMB...bcoz u ll hav abetter chance of being placed in a good co..but ultimately choice is urs!!!

I asked a member on the Board of Directors of ICICI bank and the lady said that NM would be a better option. But when i enquired from people in IIM Cal, Indore etc and different coachin inst. they all said that XIMB would be a better choice.

This is Extremely confusing.

Someone Kindly Shed some more light on this topic

this is a first yr student doing summer internship at Chennai..

well.. for all the doubts about which insti to choose, its your call ppl..
there have been enough threads on this and i would not like to confuse you all any further..
but honestly speaking, XIMB is not a bad choice compared to the instis mentioned..
for the placement details, the Xuberance link is as accurate as it can get...

any other queries, pls post them..

:huh: me got thru XIMB ans SIBM don't know what to take booth seem good but the quota factor and the fact it's in bubhneshwar is actually a detterent, please post pro's and con's as i feel location is imp and also top notch placements are better at sibm but ximb has a much better campus and hostel life, what say ppl please do this asap as i need to cancel my admn at sibm before 15th april, else no money will be refunded.

I guess between XIMB and Sibm i would suggest you go for XIMB as the reputation of XIM is better both in the corporate sector as well as in the academic circle(No offense meant to the SIBM guys)
A general disadvantage with most Symbi institutes is that they are generalised under the Symbi name. There is a lot of infighting amongst the Symbi institutes(This is wrt wat i've heard) which can sometimes hamper placements.
In case of XIM the only disadvantage that i can think of is the location. But on thinking Logically the Companies that come to XIMB are amongst the best, and come only cos of the reputation of XIMB and not cos of the location .
