Hi Varun:
What happens in the second year? I understand that some fellowships / schols are handed to exceptional students later on...Is this correct?.
What is the expected expense in the second year ? (without any scholarships) (Net expense : Tuition + others + living minus Internship money).
Your reply will help me do some Financial Management early on.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks!

There are indeed some scholarships available in the second year. However, they are extremely competitive and require heavy commitment in community as well as academic activities. Though I don't want to discourage you, try not to include second yr scholarships in your financial management planning. However, if you are really determined and feel that you can pull it off, then do go ahead..
Regarding finances, per yr tuition commitment (w/o scholarship) at Marshall is $40000. Other expenses (including rent, food, limited leisure) will add upto roughly $1200/mo. Other than that you should reserve some amount (approx. $2500/yr) for going to job conferences, parties, traveling etc.
Hope that helps. Congrats for the admit!

Hi
Thanks for your inputs.
I am a Round 1 Applicant December 1 deadline(as in if we go by EA, R1, R2 etc terminology). I am yet to receive any update on my application.
When you said that the Round2 should expect actions by March end were you talking about Round-2 as per the terminology above, or Round-1(numerically 2). Can you tell some details as to what are the timelines that should be looked at in my case

Thanks for writing. I am excited about attending Marshall!
While I did mean to find out about the scholarships, I do understand that it involves significant effort as well as several factors beyond our control to gain that second year schol.
Did any Indian recieve those in your class or the class of 09?
I know about the first year number, but wanted to know the second year numbers specifically for finding funding early on.
With your numbers (assuming that first years expenses = second year expenses), will it be $115K total or closer to $100K( after considering shorter second year and internship income)?
Thank you!

Hello Ankit:
I meant Round 2 (Jan 15 deadline). I am confident on that since I applied for that round last year. However, this year, considering the large number of applications, they may have been slow interviewing all the candidates from Round 1 which might have caused the delay. Keep your fingers crossed. Anything may come up - especially when you least expect it.
Indon - I will say that it should be close to $100000 for the 2 years including internship income. I do not know of any Indian who received that 2nd year scholarship in the 2009 batch. Maybe you can be 1 - best of luck!

Ankit,
I know it's silly advice but I'll give it nevertheless. When I login to my Marshall account the status says "We are reviewing your application. ....". But underneath this, there is an additional link that says: "Decision Status" and provides info on the decision. Be doubly sure you have not missed this, because I realised this only about a day after my decision was actually made available.
Furthermore, it's perfectly all right to call the adcom and check the status (quote your
USC app id), since it's been quite sometime since the actual notification date.

Thanks for your advice. Indeed it can be missed out and I have scanned the whole page as per your suggestion. Alas there were no "Decision Status". Have called them once and mailed them on 2 -3 occasions, and the reply that I have is
" The admissions committee is still working on some R-1 applications and so please just continue to check your status. Good luck to you."
I hope this post also helps others who are in the same boat as mine.
Thanks once again

Yeah... Sent you the reply on your gmail ID..... all the bst!!
DO let me know if its an admit
I recieved the adm packet from USC Marschall last week. I applied in Round 1.
I did not receive any scholarship/fellowship letter along with the packet.
I will not be able to take up the offer without any financial aid considering that no co-signer loans are also not available anymore.
Anyone who has received admits, share your details w.r.t financial aid.

Hey guys....
March is almost over... any updates on R2....
Or is it Over...!!!
Pitch in your views/info. How many R2 have been interviewed so far..!!
I am an R2 applicant and I have not been interviewed so far. I am hoping that they do accept some applicants without an interview! I was just wondering if people get any updates in between submission date and notification date. It has been almost 2 months since I applied and I have not got any update yet!!

yeah i have seen just a hand full of interview invites here where as on business week forum, many people have confirmed interview invites.
Just trying to make sense out of all this mess.
I think the reason is that pagalguy members are mostly Indians whereas Businessweek members are mostly americans. Most Americans have received interview invites. Their Alumni network is strong in the USA and even parts of Europe I guess. In India, the alumni network seems to be lesser and that is why there are fewer alumni interviews in India. Perhaps, USC is not much inclined towards telephonic interviews.
Can anyone comment on the chances of being admitted without an interview? In such cases, do we still have to wait till April 3rd or do they notify such candidates before 3rd April?

Handful of interview invites? As far as I see, not even one person has reported an interview invite in Round 2 (January round).. And megawhiz said that we might see interview invites as late as March end..
Are you guys telling me to give up hope? 😞
If we (Jan 15th round applicants) don't get an interview invite by the end of next week, can we assume that we have been dinged?!
I am trying hard to find out if anyone has been notified of a positive decision on the notification date without an interview or any kind of communication prior to the notification date.

Some of you should be getting an interview invite about right now. I got mine on 12th March (I applied on 15th Jan) and was interviewed on 20th March - the results were out by 27th March. This should give u a fair idea of how Marshall schedules interviews and admit decisions for international candidates during the second round. However, again this year might be a bit different due to larger number of applicants.
Don't lose hope - I had 0 admits by this time last year and ended the season with 3 - all with considerable amount of schols.

Hi
Any chance of getting an interview invite this late>?!
If not, does it mean rejection or could they admit without an interview?
Also, I heard that USC Marshall announces some admissions decisions before the notification date. Is this true? Has anyone (Jan 15th round) been admitted or rejected already?
Regards
Indianapplicant

I don't understand... Not even a single Jan 15 applicant on this forum reported an interview invite.. either they knowingly rejected all PGites, or they did not take any Indians in this round !!
I understand that we might be bugging you too much, Varun and Ved, but could you offer any insights on the matter? Do they admit without interviews? Do they invite really, really late?
