UPSC CSE Exam 2019: Admit Card, Syllabus, Result

anyone please tellme how was psychology exam this year..

People, I have a query. I am a little confused about the syllabus for the qualifying papers of the main exam. I went through the last year's advertisement and I could see extensive syllabus for each of the Indian languages. Now, my query is, is this the syllabus for the indian language qualifying paper or is the syllabus for the indian language literature applicable only if you choose any indian language as one of the two optional subjects in the mains. Basically, is there any syllabus in specific for the qualifying indian language paper(or for that matter the qualifying english paper as well?)? Or is just one essay , precis , summary kinda stuff all the time? I hope I was clear enuf! Please can someone clarify this for me?

@Sathyaonline As per the notification, only two papers : English and One Indian language (you have to choose). Both papers are compulsory and are qualifying in nature. Qualifying here implies that you have to pass in both papers then only your other papers (GS Iⅈ, Essay, 4 optional papers) will be checked.
The Indian language literature you are talking about falls under the category of optional subjects. They are not qualifying in nature.
You are confusing between the Indian language literature (as optionals) and Indian language (as compulsory) papers.
I hope your doubt is cleared.
@bumper I use TMH guide for reference. But do not completely rely on it. Standard books are better. Unique contains lot of errors.

Thank you for that. Yes that throws some light on my query. Can you please tell me what the syllabus is for the Qualifying paper of indian literature as I am not able to find it anywhere? I am looking for Tamil language.

Once again thank you for your time.

hey guys, need your help! I've just started preparing for the 2013 exam.

As optionals, I am confused between Political Science and Public Administration.(Other optional being Sociology)

My preference is Polit Sci as I've gone through the syllabus and Paper-II(International relations) is something I've a keen interest in and can relate to.

But again, Pub Ad is considered a safe option as many people I've talked to, who have cracked this exam, are suggesting this.

I've seen this year's mains paper as well and Polit Sci was much more bearable than Pub Ad.

So the dilemma remains.

Would love as many suggestions as I could get.

Thanks in advance :)

P.S. I've completed my graduation in Management.

can anyone provide last year paper

@96321

You can follow the previous year question papers under the UPSC website. They maintain an archive for the previous year question papers.
You can find the last year question paper as well, there.

@GunnyBag thanks

There is no particular syllabus like thing for the Regional Language compulsary paper. But it is of matriculation Standard. Nature of the paper is as follows:1. Reading comprehension2. Essay (around 200 words)3. Basic grammar: synonym, antonym, meaning of proverbs etc.4. Translation Back and forth (i.e. one paragraph given in English -you've to translate it in your language (Hindi/Gujarati/Tamil/Telugu)5. Second paragraph is given in your regional language and you've to translate it into English.6. Précis writing (long paragraph is given, you've to condense it in 40-60 words)Attaching one of the previous paper.. That might give you a basic understanding of the paper pattern.

There is no fixed pattern for the qualifying paper. However, what simha63 mentioned is correct. You can download previous years papers from following sites :

Yes, selection between Pub. Ad. and Pol. Sci is a tough job. I appeared this year's mains exam and I equally found the paper-I of Pub. Ad. quite tough. But toughness or easiness of any paper is an individual perception and you should not be carried away by anyone's opinion.
I suggest you to spend few days in comparing in detail both the syllabuses + question papers of last 5 years. From the last 3 years, UPSC's focus is to make the papers more and more analytical rather than factual.
What else you can do is visit mrunal.org to see the complete A2Z analysis of the papers. That'll help you a lot.

@Pradeep786 suggest me a website where i can crosscheck my APFC attempts

I have used both Unique and TMH. The difference is Unique contains lots of factual and conceptual errors while TMH is accurate. Although TMH is expensive but it is worth for history, geography, science (basics only). What I did is purchased old version (1 year old) which priced me around Rs. 700 and used that. No need to buy new one. For current affairs, you can rely on magazines and standard books for the rest of the G S topics.
