UPSC CSE Exam 2019: Admit Card, Syllabus, Result

Hi Guys, came across a good question for GS mains exam, hence posting here!

Answer the following in about 250 words (25 marks)

1."The rupee's fall in recent times symbolizes all that has gone wrong with the macro-economic situation in the country." Explain.

Please post your answers!

Cheers!

I know that the statement has been taken from this hindu editorial! ;)

But you have to put this statement into perspective. You have to explain the relationship b/w falling rupee and the current account deficit; falling rupee and the trade deficit; falling rupee and outflow of foreign funds especially FIIs; falling rupee and monetary tightening by the RBI. In short, you have to explain the causes that have led to the depreciation in the rupee.

This question tests both the conceptual knowledge and the understanding of current economic situation in the country, in 'about 250 words'.

Cheers!

NCERT books are fine. PD has not remained too much relevant these days but yes you can read it. The important part is Economic Survey for current and for traditional details, India Year Book.

Sorry, I missed your post.

Neither Chronicle nor Manorma and for that matter none of them. I am talking about book named India ABCD published by Publication Division, where ABCD stands for year like this year it was India 2012 and had information updated till 2011.

India ABCD is available online: http://www.publicationsdivision.nic.in/others/India_2011.pdf

or you can purchase it as well from a book store that deals with UPSC CSE material.

For India Polity, I referred both DD Basu and Laxmikanth but for GS Mains, I feel Laxmikanth is good enough. But do read DD Basu once and have a feel if you would be interested in Laxmikanth or DD Basu.
