Hi,
Do u have any idea about the weightage given to written and interview in the selection process. Also i came to know that essential qulaification for this exam are just for the sake of it.The final selections are only made on the basis of desired qualifications(diploma in comany law/labour law/Public Admin).I guess the whole effort dosen't go waste at the final stage.
No Buddy
It s Not Like That , I personaly Know some people who are working as APFC . They Just cleared this Exam on the basis of their degrees. UPSC Always play a level playing field for every aspirant . what matter is your attitude. if u secure higher marks in written exam and satisfy ( That you r the right candidate for this Job) the Interview Panel member's then the job will be yours
So at this point of time Just Concentrate on written exam preparation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also For Other Puys for APFC Exam it is essential to read India year book 2012 and Economic Survey
The Following Chapters( From India Year Book 2012) are Most Important from this exam point of view:
1. Labour
2. Land & People ( Covers Indian Geography & Demography Portion )
3. The Polity
4. States & Union Territories
5. National Symbols
6. Basic Economic Data
7. Finance
8. Commerce
APFC enjoys any sort of power or not or this post is just a big but powerless post? Along with managing the PF they do anything else or not? Those who know about its job profile please throw some light on my query.

Dude,
IAS topper interview kyun na de agar meri tarag sochne lage to? What is the link I do not get. Moreover, whatever I have said holds true. I have several times given the book lists on this thread.
Go through the thread and you will find many places almost every second post that has the answer to booklist question. But I have never seen anyone who has asked what to read from those books. Which book covers which part the best way?
@Palak Mathur in reply to above post:
Then why this thread is made?? Just close this thread. There is plenty of stuff already available on the internet. Why to waste our and your time here...
If you think so, then you have not understood the essence of my post.
tarak8 Saysu r right if som1 dont want to contribute he sud not comment in demoralising way, jab ful nahi ban sakte to kante banna kyu chahto ho.
What was demoralizing in my post?
Hello Varun sir, with due respect we all aspirants request you to appoint/request some senior to join this thread who can solve our queries gently and humbly without any rudeness or roughness.
Thanks and Regards..
What was rude in my post? If I keep answering your question without saying or asking you to do anything then it is fine. Otherwise I am rude.
And ibad786, I think you sent me a PM for certain question. From where did you get impression that I am not helping you and being rude.
And if you all wish, I will not comment over here.
@Vision, Sorry for being personal over here in answering to a question, but couldn't stop myself when people start questioning your attitude after having devoted so much time to this thread and making it running.

This verbal duel forced me to post me atlast.
First of all thank you palak for giving us fruitful information throughout this thread and if not for you this thread would have been dead long back.
Secondly, just because of few who didnt happen to read previous pages and just blatantly said things against you; you cannot generalise that "if you all" not want....infact many users like me who have benefited from your posts but have not posted here will strongly sought your opinion about civil sevices....
Just because of exceptions palak you cannot change the rule...and atlast u r aspiring for UPSC .If others are immature( and they are) i would expect you to forgive them of thier ignorance....
I completely agree with you regarding book part....
PS:- This is one of very few posts which i have posted in pagalguy....I tried to restrain from personal attacks ...if still anybody feels I regret for that.
Hi All,
I would like to start my preparation for civil services exam 2013.
I am from hyderabad. I found some good coaching institutes here but the coaching fee is around 80k which is very expensive and out of my budget.
Can someone please suggest some websites for materials and resources to deal with the exam(prelims and mains) and also the required strategy.
Regards,
Krish
hi friends
can somebody suggest me govt running civil services coaching in lucknow
thanks
Arre bhailog, why so much controversy over such a trivial issue.here are certain books that i think are useful for GS.
1.India's Struggle for independence- Bipin Chandra
Covers history from 1857 to 1947.Very good analysis of important historical events, but is biased towards the Congress.
2.Our Constitution- Subhash Kashyap
Very simple and lucid language used.Good book to start with, but not very analytical. It has to be supplemented with D D Basu.
3.Introduction to constitution- D D Basu
In depth analysis of major provisions.Of immense help for Pub admn.
4. Science and Technology- TMH Publication
Covers wide variety of area like Space, Biotechnology etc, but is not updated with latest developments.But good to learn basics of S&T;
5.Ecology and Environment- P D Sharma
Have not read this book, but one of my friends has given good reviews about it.
6. Indian Economy- Misra and Puri or Dutt and Sundaram
You will find these books in the book list of many websites but not necessary if you are from commerce background.I read Misra and Puri during my final year. It is loaded with too much statistical data.Questions in preliminary/mains are mostly concept based and derived from current events.
7.Oxford Students Atlas
8.NCERT Science- VIII-X
9.NCERT Geography- VIII-XII (New ones)
10.NCERT History- XI-XII (Old ones)
11.The Hindu, ET, Frontline, Yojana, Kurukshetra, Chronicle or Competition Wizard.
Guys, Let me know if there are other good books for GS.
Cheers!

Also, Palak's contribution to the thread has been very pivotal. Request him to keep contributing as well. 😃
Cheers!
