UPSC CSE Exam 2019: Admit Card, Syllabus, Result

:)

Wizard current affiars (year book) by Jojo Mathew...ALS??

I am finding it very bulky??

Wanted to know, how to filter it??

Cheers!

No, I didn't refer that book. It is a huge book with some waste and vague information. Rather I concentrated on the weekly Current affairs notes provided by UPSC Mantra. They were the best that I could find as they cover your Mains GS Current + partial traditional aspects.

At this point, if you were thorough with your newspapers, I would like to recommend that please do not worry about Current affairs much. Most of the questions asked are from other part of the syllabus (if we consider 2010 GS and 2011 CSAT GS Paper 1). So, concentrate on your Science, History, Geography, Polity and Economic Survey.

Thanks for the reply...Can u guide me wat r the changes that can be expected in the new pattern???Wl it be objective or subjective type? Also will it be some exam like CAT and XAT???

I cannot comment what changes will happen. In any case Mains will never be like CAT or XAT. They do not want Quant/VA specialists.

However, if we go by the ARC 2 recommendations, then they may follow the same subjects as done by MPSC in their Mains examination. Whether it will be objective or subjective is still in future though MPSC has objective papers

view

i am aiming for upsc 2013 and have an admit from very
prestigious nitie mumbai. now i m in confusion as to go for
mba or devote one year completely for upsc preparation
or
shall i joing nitie and prepare along with mba.

some points i figured plz advice / suggest yours
1. devoting one year to upsc

complete classroom coaching i can avail and full time
preparation will be there .
since csat is similar to cat i can aim cat again with upsc too

-ve
if i dont get thru and worst i dont make it to cat next year i will loose
on one year and one year of mba but yeah will have one year of full
preparation so that i can aim the next upsc

2. joing nitie and have parallel preparation for upsc
+Ve
i wont miss on my year and so investing and utilising also with
brand of nitie .
curriculum at nitie is cool [ as heard from seniors] so regular
study can be done
after 2 years i will be in earning mode so financially no burden as
an individual .

-ve
might be riding on two boats at a time can cost both and i end
poorly on both fronts [ lacking in proper pptn of upsc ]
will miss classroom coaching [ there are not delhi compared classes near
nitie ]

waiting fr your honest suggestions

My Younger brother passed out from NITIE this year and i would suggest you to join this college and you will be having ample-ample time for UPSC preparations without even affecting your normal MBA exams/placements.

Just go for it Dude. You will be having double advantage. MBA plus UPSC preparation.

I agree... you can continue your UPSC preparation along with NITIE MBA degree.

None of them seem worth the time or money! Hey Bhagwaan bachao mujhe! :/ :sneaky:

Hello Guy,
I was reading through this post and found it very useful. I had a basic question which might sound silly but still would appreciate if somebody can help me.

I am getting into MBA this year and also intend to prepare for UPSC. The very basic question to seniors is please throw some light as to how folks prepare while studying parallelly for the rigorous course of MBA? How do we manage time between case studies, quizzes, assignments, lectures etc.? I am asking this because i really want to plan my routine in a way that I can do some serious studies. Is it really possible to squeeze in 4-5 hours of study daily in midst of the demanding classes and tests etc. Is this possible in IIMs too. Will really be grateful if someone can help so that I atleast know how difficult it would be to prepare simultaneously. Some success stories will really be a confidence booster :)

Thank You

Right now, I do not think that you need to join any institute. Join Institutes only for test series. You can study on your own. Start with NCERTs. Visit notes section on my blog for complete book list for General Studies.

I was thinking of choosing Management and Economics as my subjects for Mains. So should I start preparing side by side for these subjects first? and how do i start?

By 2014, I doubt that there will be any optional subjects left. So, try to work on General Studies. You should cover all the traditional topics from NCERTs.

Hi,

As an Ex TAPMIan i can tell you onething. TAPMI is known for its academic rigour when compared to other B -Schools. You will encounter a plethora of curricular and co-curricular activities as a part of your day to day responsiblities. Hence please carefully weigh all options before making a decision.

Puys,
It always has been one of my biggest desires to become an IAS officer, but for some reasons I never have had the courage and determination to start preparing for UPSC.
My queries are:
1. Is it possible to prepare and clear UPSC while doing MBA (I would most probably join TAPMI this year) by taking Management as one of the optional subjects?
2. Are there any disadvantages (or advantages) of becoming IAS at comparitively older age? (I am 24 right now)
Waiting eagerly for a reply.

@Palak Mathur

I have to give UPSC in 2014 with Management and Economics as two papers.

Will start preparation from Dec 2012. Can devote 3 Hrs daily for preparation. Can U suggest as to how i should approach. Can U suggest books to follow and coaching which gives material for these 2 subjects. Please advice as i need to crack in the first attempt itself.

For aptitude i am planning to take CL CAT Test series(2012), TIME CSAT (2013). For G.k i read TOI and ET daily. Will take GS Book.

Will 3* say 400=1200 Hrs of serious prep going to help. Actually I will be taking admission in a decent MBA institute and will be studying Finance.

I compared the syllabus also and most of the curriculum matched. So will basic books of Management and Economics sufficient. Further there is no previous Yrs papers of Management on the web

Please advice...........

Don't take any test series in 2012 for the exam in 2014. Moreover, just work hard with your subjects in MBA and start reading NCERTs for General Studies and other recommended GS material. I am asking you to concentrate on GS because by 2014, I doubt there will be any optional subject left.
