i am aiming for upsc 2013 and have an admit from very prestigious nitie mumbai. now i m in confusion as to go for mba or devote one year completely for upsc preparation or shall i joing nitie and prepare along with mba.
Buddy
As i responded to your query earlier as well, being in NITIE will provide you with ample time for preparation of UPSC. I did not prepare otherwise i too had ample time. 😃 So, i dont see any point in leaving the admit when you can prepare alongwith. And you have enough time to prepare as well as CSAT 2012 is still 12 months from now. 😃
some points i figured plz advice / suggest yours 1. devoting one year to upsc 2. joing nitie and have parallel preparation for upsc
specially varun sir whats your call on this .
I think both the apprehensions are taken care of 😃
I want to focus on the "General Studies" section alone for the coming year keeping the Mains in view. (Would figure out the optionals later - am virtually interested in everything, confused soul!)
Please could someone suggest the best material that I could get via correspondence for General Studies (Mains)??
Anyone please??
What do you mean by coming year? If 2012, then better do not waste your attempt if you already have not started preparing and one of your optional is not complete.

I am not appearing this year or the next. I want to get an overview first of the General Studies paper first, and collect relevant materials from the best possible place, considering the options are many.
I am not comfortable with classroom coaching and correspondence course would just do fine.

There are many. One I have tried is UPSC Mantra. Search for it on google and you will reach there.

Hi abhishek, In my opinion NITIE is the one to choose right at this moment. And I'll tell you why. I know the temptation of investing one year to crack UPSC, but mark my words, UPSC is the one of the most unpredictable examinations you would ever come across. I am sure you would have tried mighty hard for it for the whole year but what if,just by chance, UPSC remains out of reach. Its gonna be hard then. So what I think you should be doing now is, join NITIE (send the fees if you havent done it already ) and after you join, you are gonna get time for UPSC preparations.
And better than mine, you have your senior Vision_IIMACL bro... listen to him
Hi Palak, are u referring to Wizard current affairs 2012??
Cheers!
The Wizard editions are published by the Alternative Learning Systems people right?
Do they offer any correspondence course? I searched for their website to be only disappointed. The 14th rank holder of UPSC this year took a year's coaching there. :/

By the time you appear, optionals may become history!!:)

I am also considering this thing bro! I think UPSC should and would do away with optionals. Make it totally General Studies based - a uniform platter for all!

Your optional seems to be fine. Just prepare well.
Manorma year book will do nothing for GS. Be thorough with your NCERTs. You can visit Notes section on my blog to know more. My subjects were History and PubAd, so cannot talk about books on other subjects. Though you may get the complete book list on CivilServiceIndia.
However, I think in 2014 you will not have any optional subject if everything goes well with the ThinkTank!!

Yes, ALS.
One thing i noted that none of the websites of top coaching institutes are claiming selection of their students in UPSC 2011.
Hi, I applied for CSE-2012 exam but i am not confident of clearing prelims this year. If i skip the preliminary exam will my attempt be wasted. If i apply next year, how many attempts will remain? I am from the general category.

Your attempt is counted if you take the exam. Since you will not be appearing, the attempt will not be counted.
