Please read the notification properly. There are 31 pages in the notification and they are for some reason.
The paper-I on Indian Languages will not, however, be compulsory
for candidates hailing from the North-Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland and also for candidates hailing from the State of Sikkim.
can final year students apply
While applying online for UPSC, we have to select the two optionals for the mains exam. If we clear the prelims, then can we change the optional or we have to stick to the optionals that we filled right now. I didnt find anything regarding this in notification. Kindly help..
Went through the notification twice but still I am confused.
Well I don't hail from the NE states.
On selecting "NO" its saying to select one of the languages.
Wanted to know what does that mean?
M going to take the exam in English and the list is not mentioning the language.
You have to take one paper in Indian Language where they will check your knowledge in the language of your choice. English is not an Indian Language. So, if your mother tongue is Hindi then select that.
P.S.:- Do you know the structure of the examination? How many papers are there in Mains? At least do some homework before filling the exam. You do not know what is the structure of exam and are filling the form.

ravi.catch22 SaysPalak Sirjee...any idea about this??
Hi Palak
I've read your previous posts and found them very useful. I am pursuing MBA from Narsee Monjee (NMIMS Mumbai). I also took SSC CGL last year and i'm almost through. I'll easily get Income Tax Delhi or Examiner. I can fetch a decent job from my college considering the opportunity it provides. But I've now started focusing on UPSC. I'm just 23. I've read all the three NCERTs for History and Physical n human geography. I've seen CSAT paper2 i.e. aptitude and i found very easy. Now i have the feeling that i'll be able to clear prelims this year itself But i have no preparations for mains. So shall i take a shot this year or rather i should save an attempt? i've just started laxmikanth for PubAd. Also what would you suggest about working in an MNC or joining an Inspector post through ssc, considering my UPSC endeavour?? Also i'm planning to take either history or geography along with Pub Ad as these subject will be useful for GS preparation as well.
Looking for a prompt response
Thanks in advance
Palak Mathur SaysAfter clearing prelims, you will need to fill another form. So, you can change your optionals and centre at that time. So, if you are still undecided about optionals, then you can fill anything now and change them later.
ravi.catch22 SaysI have finalised one subject n it has to be PubAd. Can u suggest me d books for the same which wud b enuf to prepare for d mains...
I referred following books and material for PubAD:
1. New Horizons of Public Administration - Mohit Bhattacharya
2. Indian Administration by Ramesh K. Arora & Rajni Goyal
3. Administrative Thinkers - Prasad and Prasad
4. Indian Constitution - D.D. Basu
5. 2nd ARC Reports
ravi.catch22 SaysWill these books b enough?? or i will hav to refer sum more?? n i m already referring Indian Polity by Laxmikanth...then will i need Indian Constitution by Basu??
