hi i'm new to this thread. i have cleared IBPS po 2011 and till the process completes with the interview results, i'm free(i guess it will take up whole 2012). i want to experience CSAT . I have last year's GENERAL STUDIES MANUAL for civil services preliminary examination. I really want to give it with a good and serious preparation. I know i am very late to start but please suggest me that is this buk enough to start with or i should purchase NCERT books so that my first experience is worth learning.
I have never read GS Manual, so cannot comment on it. But I personally feel that NCERTs are the way to start.
Is there any Andaman Nikobar PSC??
If it is there then no problem of attempting that bcoz there will b less compition :)

cutoffs not disclosed by UPSC in prelims...but if you score over 60% in total...you're almost definitely in.

This year there has been no change. Pattern of UPSC changed last year. Please check the UPSC Notification for details. What exactly you understand about the pattern of UPSC?

please note that total marks in mains exam plus interview was 1700 ( 1500 marks for mains & 200 marks for personal interview)
UPPCS 2009 - Final Results are Out
UPPCS 2010 - Mains conducted in August September 2011. Result not out yet
UPPCS 2011 - Mains conducted in December 2011
UPPCS2012 - Registrations Closed

Puys I have a silly question but a serious one for me as it may cost me one attempt. Last year(2011) I applied for Civils but did not take the test due to some reasons. Does this cost me an attempt?

Nopes It Will Not be Counted An Attempt At The Examination
As Per CSE 2012 NOTICE
(i) An attempt at a Preliminary Examination
shall be deemed to be an attempt at
the Examination.
(ii) If a candidate actually appears in any
one paper in the Preliminary Examination,
he/she shall be deemed to have made an
attempt at the Examination.
(iii) Notwithstanding the disqualification/
cancellation of candidature, the fact of appearance
of the candidate at the examination
will count as an attempt.
