The Main examination will comprise of seven papers in all. In the new format, UPSC removed one of the optional subjects. Now, the students will have to appear for just one optional subject with two papers of 250 marks each. Apart from this, Paper-1 will contain two sections. Section-I will have an essay of 200 marks while Section-II will have English Comprehension and Précis of 100 marks. Besides, the General Studies will now have 4 papers of 250 marks each.
What is most important to note is the fact that Paper IV on General Studies has been introduced and this will include Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude for the very first time. One of the important changes is regarding the selection of literature subjects as optional. In the changed pattern only those students who have done their graduation in the particular language could opt the Literature of that language as their optional.
Syllabi of the papers included in the scheme of Civil Services (Main) Examination are given as follows:-
PAPER-I: Section 1 Essay-200 Marks
Section 2 English Comprehension & English Précis-100 Marks
PAPER-II: General Studies- I: Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society-250 Marks
PAPER-III: General Studies- II: Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations-250 Marks
PAPER-IV: General Studies-III: Technology, Economic Development, Bio diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management-250 marks
PAPER-V: General Studies- IV: Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude-250 Marks
PAPER-VI & PAPER VII: Optional Subject Papers I & II-250 Marks Each
Personality Test- 275 Marks
Analysis
The weightage of marks of the interview has been kept at the same standard of 13% i.e.
• Earlier Interview Carried: 300/2300*100=13 percent approx
• Now, 275/2075*100=13 percent approx
Similarly the weightage of the Optional Paper had been reduced from 52 percent to 24 percent, i.e.
• Earlier it was 1200/2300*100=52%approx
• Now, it is 500/2075*100=24%approx
In case of the General Studies Paper the Weightage of Marks has increased to 48 percent from 26 percent, i.e.
• Earlier it was 600/2300*100=26%;

Long live leaderNo fun for three days guys.Leave current affairs till april. We'll get new economic updates in march. All publishing houses will bring out their books about last fiscal year this month. Lets wait till then. Start with history or polity. They cant be hushed up in last minute.PS: current affairs are very important for mains but not that significant for prelims

All those who are new to this thread, welcome bros & please go through some of the recent pages. These aspects have been already discussed in the forum & also other civils threads. All the regulars have already started preparation for polity or history. Going back to basics will cause stagnation.
Please see last but one post on page 115. For books, 6th post from bottom on both 115 & 116.
