as dis yr IFS n CSE are considering score from same prelim exam, I am looking for appearing for IFS prelim for getting 1st hand experience of CSE prelim. Jus one sily doubt, wl that make one attempt for CSE? I knw im asking foolish question, bt still
No problem buddy. In the first page of online application, you are supposed to select the exam for which you intend to appear - only civils, only IFS or both. Select "only IFS" & then your attempt will be counted in IFS only but not civils.
But why waste an year. Clear cutoff in prelims by using paper 2 & luckily mains is new to everyone. There is no first timer & repeater differentiation in 2013 & this situation has come after nearly 2 decades.Competition will be unbearable next year.Four attempts are enough man. This limit will actually prevent people from wasting their entire life instead of searching for equally good alternatives. Strike the iron while it is hot.
"Marks obtained by the candidates for all papers (Paper I-VII) will be counted for merit ranking. However, the Commission will have the discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all papers of the examination."Just read the above lines in UPSC notification.....should I be worried??....
Nothing much in that to worry bro. It is mentioned only for legal purpose in case someone goes to court or files RTI about selection criteria. We all know civils is a competitive exam & has cutoffs. If you are worried about separate cutoffs in each paper, that won't happen except in the 2 optional papers. Last time indian lang, english & 4 optional papers (total 6, now 2) had individual cutoffs. So, going by that, you should be relieved instead.
i am B.Tech(IT).. am i eligible for IFS?? i read the notification but was confused as it mentioned 'degree should be in following.... '. IT was not mentioned..
All those who started with polity: Guys, you are going the reverse way. You may not know but you are studying in mains perspective. Constitutional developments prior to independence (charter acts, pitts etc) & exec, leg, jud powers of president, governor are very important polity ques for mains:
Prelims needs just covering superficial aspects of many topics while mains needs indepth analysis of few important topics. Mains - boring slugfest but prelims - a bloody knockout punch
POLITY STUDY PLAN FOR PRELIMS (follow the order - given to me by my teacher. copy it to your computers & pass on when new people come to the forum)
1. Nature of constitution, borrowed & original features of constitution 2. Schedules & parts (just mug up like hell) 3. Fundamental rights, exceptions 4. Directive principles, Fundamental duties 5. Union executive (pres, vp etc - eligibility, election, removal, service conditions, powers) 6. Union legislative (cabinet, pm, MPs - eligibility, election, removal, privileges) 7. State exec & legislative (governor, MLAs, MLCs etc) 8. Judiciary (judges, jurisdictions, exceptions) 9. Federal Structure & center-state relations 10. Constitutional offices (CAG, Election Commission, UPSC, Attorney General etc) 11. Extra Constitutional & Legal offices (Finance & planning commissions, law comm, ARC National commissions for women, minorities, SCs, STs etc) 12. Local governments 13. Constitutional amendments (imp ones, procedure) 14. Parliamentary commitees 15. New bills like womens bill, right to education, food security bill etc etc etc)
Study parts & all articles dealing with each aspect. Eg: Fund rights- study part 4 of constitution & articles 12 to 35. I am following my notes. You guys can buy notes of reputed faculty in your area. It makes studies superfast. For text books, use Laxmikant or VL Fadia or Bakshi (shorter version)
If you think OMG so many topics, see para 2 of this post again.
@TRUE--WARRIORi am B.Tech(IT).. am i eligible for IFS?? i read the notification but was confused as it mentioned 'degree should be in following.... '. IT was not mentioned..thanks
Any engineering degree is acceptable but we guys can't clear mains. Myself an electronics & communication engineer and attended IFS last year. Just gave GS and english papers for practice but didn't attend optionals. Most optionals like agriculture, forestry, botany can't be dealt by us. If you just want to attend IFS prelims for fun, go ahead friend.
Also can u suggest me whether to attend prelims or not this year by opting IFS only? It can give me some experience on type of questions asked. Please give some inputs.
Ok gotta go. I'll try to comeback tomorrow & will be super-active on the forum after 22nd (if still alive on 20th night )
Participate actively on the forum guys. Those IBPS fellows swallow 10 -15 forum pages everyday & when their threads are closed, they create many new ones & build them up within seconds.Just register & start posting. Don't remain as boring passive readers.
@TRUE--WARRIOR it'll be cherry on the top if you can provide some books name/links too with those info, anyways thanks buddy its a hell lot of info for noobs here thumbs up
The reason quoted by UPSC is, when a OBC candidate who came in Open merit, is considered for service allocation, it may happen that he will get lower preferred service viz-a-vis another OBC candidate who is lower to him in rank and who came in relaxed standards under OBC quota. To tide over the anomaly, it is said, this particular OBC is moved to OBC quota so that he can get a service of his choice ...
. so whn he is transferred to his own category .. seat left by him in general category is filled by whom ? the next ranked general category student or other obc category candidate .. please all puys answer my query ..

Same question from my side too. Will attempting for IFS count for 1 attempt at CSE too? Otherwise its a good way to gain experience about CSE prelims. :D
@TRUE--WARRIOR bro can you please suggest me a name of good coaching centre in Delhifor CSE prep ? I am from Orissa ,so I don't have much idea about it.
To all civil service newcomers:I know many of you haven't attended coaching & so don't know much about prelims. I'll put everything you need to know about prelims in single post. This is what people understand after attending coaching for 6 months and after looking at numerous previous/model papers. So, put it on your desktops & follow it.Paper 2:As I have been repeatedly saying, try to get maximum marks in paper 2 which is nothing but reasoning and english. Just aim for 200/200 in paper 2 and get as close to it as you can. Try doing more & more comprehension passages.Quick and effective action plan for paper 1:1. Start with modern history straightaway & finish it2. Study environment part (very small)3. Be thorough with Indian economy (incl economic survey & social schemes of govt)If you think the above things looked manageable, continue reading for best part:1. Ignore ancient & medieval history at this point. Try to get some titbits of culture & religion though.2. Ignore geography if you dont have time but remember to study environment part thoroughly as I already mentioned above3. Ignore science too! Just learn about new innovations in biotechnology & leave. Dont read chemistry or solve physics problems even if you have spare time.4. Ignore current affairs. However while studying indian economy, study the latest developments like budget, present inflation & state of economy etc or you will regret.PS: This scheme will work like a charm if and only if you are comfortable with reasoning, english & basic school level maths.I'll try to get back tomorrow sometime after midnight.
