Check out Civils 2013 notification word file. Actually UPSC presented the notification in a very shabby format this year. Clearly looks like they hurried through things. PDF size exceeded. So, adding word file

Weightage of optionals reduced from 60% in written to 28%
Interview weightage almost remains the same !! :)

Moreover,there would be only 1 optional subject which would be divided into PAPER-I & II

That €™s a measure of austerity from UPSC which was so badly required !!
KUDOS UPSC !!!
GAME ON !!

I dont think that in any manner relates to Quants/DI !!

"""" Aptitude and foundational values for Civil Service , integrity, impartiality and non-partisanship,
objectivity, dedication to public service, empathy, tolerance and compassion towards the weakersections.""""

I think this is what they mean when they say APTITUDE ;)
1. previously 9 papers, now 7 and marks of all the papers will be included in the final merit list
2. just one optional from 2013 and more emphasis on the GS ( which will be appreciated by many candidates)
3. i haven't seen anything about an indian language paper as it was earlier compulsory ,,so anyone correct me if i am wrong in assuming that there is no indian language paper.
4.interview earlier was 300 now 275
5. maximum marks reduced to 250 from 300 in each paper.( Except paper 1 )
6. Grand Total 2075 instead of 2300.

Wat is Paper V ?

Ethics and alll That
@anshul26 Yes bro..even i think so...Indian language paper has been scrapped off !!!
However one can choose Language as an optional if he/she has graduated in it as the MAIN subject !!! :)

Cheers !!

@gaurav0410
as far as i can guess,,,mostly its a mix of sociology, psychology and philosophy.

Lifeline of candidate's ,like me,who have passed even their Engineering MATHS paper writing theory !!! ;)

Just kidding....!! :)

@c123, @Gunzerker

In civils aptitude has the same meaning as attitude. They check your moral values, ethics, behavior, sensitivity to people's problems, ability to run administration in a non-partisan way & caliber to hold public post etc.

Generally this kind of stuff is checked in interview but they are doing it in written itself. God knows what they would be asking in interview.

Interview imp ques:
What is your view about the changes in Civil service exam pattern incorporated by UPSC recently?

lol

going to give this exam for the first time ......
lets c what happens...........

bas ab lag jao yaron

upsc ko fad dalenge

Suddenly there is a massive get together of aspirants from every field of Study Go Team Go

Just wana comment on the 5th paper GS -4 . Do anything will change if any 1 of u(aspirant) clr this exam and want to honestly implement all these high moral things (As Mentioned in the Syllabus of Paper) in the real life situation ( With Refernce to the Recent Murder of DSP of UP Police & many more like Sh. Narendra Kumar Manjunath Satyendra Dubey ) ?

@csl80
well there is no long term solution ,,executives cant do it when it comes to changing things structurally, but there is always a way to solve a problem as soon as it appears,,even in its various trainings those who get recruited by upsc, are told that there is a solution for that instance, but if you think about changing the whole system then you are wasting your effort,,and as far as qualities like honesty and integrity are concerned,,they are personal traits ,,some of us will retain them,,some already dont have them and others will loose them with time,,
@TRUE--WARRIOR Congrats and all the best for interviews !!
I have read history of modern india by Bipan Chandra. Should i follow it up with India's struggle for independence by the same author.

P.S. I have just began my preparations when I came across this thread. Am i wasting my time and should read only TMH books ?

Bipan Chandra is the prescribed medicine by all coaching gurus & undoubtedly it is a class apart. Unfortunately most of the new aspirants do not have time to go through text books. TMH is only a shortcut to somehow jump over the fence called prelims & it may or may not always work. If the credentials in your signature line are true, then you'll bludgeon off paper 2 and can afford to take risky shortcuts for paper 1

if i fill the form and dont appear,then my next yr wl b considered 2nd attempt or 1st?? please reply
