nope. Never heard of any good ones. You can get online material though. Many people take postal coaching in the form of really bulky material from institutes like vajiram & ravi, brilliant tutorials etc. I personally went to brilliant tutorial office & checked the system. They send books in installments but not all at a time.They decide what you should study & when to study. Such control over personal choice is not acceptable to many headstrong civils aspirants like me.
Lot of baseless rumors circulating in media but you'll certainly know something on 9th march. On official website of indian forest service, it's given that this year civils prelims will also serve as IFS prelims & that notification for IFS will be out on 9th march. So, atleast we'll get to know prelims date on 9th.
Apparently, the prelims exam date has been postponed to 26th may. Check the link http://ifs.nic.in/.
To all civil service newcomers: Quick and effective action plan for paper 1:1. Start with modern history straightaway & finish it2. Study environment part (very small)3. Be thorough with Indian economy (incl economic survey & social schemes of govt)If you think the above things looked manageable, continue reading for best part:1. Ignore ancient & medieval history at this point. Try to get some titbits of culture & religion though.2. Ignore geography if you dont have time but remember to study environment part thoroughly as I already mentioned above3. Ignore science too! Just learn about new innovations in biotechnology & leave. Dont read chemistry or solve physics problems even if you have spare time.4. Ignore current affairs. However while studying indian economy, study the latest developments like budget, present inflation & state of economy etc or you will regret.PS: This scheme will work like a charm if and only if you are comfortable with reasoning, english & basic school level maths.I'll try to get back tomorrow sometime after midnight.

If you insist, I can give a lengthy list of all the so called prescribed books.You can study all of them & attempt prelims in 2020. Infact I have over hundred notes, text books & materials for civils, resting peacefully in my cupboard. Not joking & not giving random number. I'm serious.
Interview on 20th mar. Same day for all my friends who gave the exam from hyderabad center. So, a little comforting issue for me. Bhai agar interview aaj hota toh abhi tak mera brain dead hua hota

history - grover & mehta, bipin chandra geography - khullar (must & should), savinder singh polity - bakshi, fadia economy, current affairs - new vishals publications (awesome books) sci & tech - spectrum, year book international relations - unique publications, current trends in intl relations by golden peacock publications

No of posts: 1000 (very crude number & doesn't look reliable. Wait for updation) Prelims date: 26 may 2013 How to apply: Online only (no need to send any documents by post for prelims) Last date: 4th april 2013 Prelims syllabus: No change (general studies & aptitude papers for 200 marks each)
Mains changes:
Mains date: Nov/dec 2013 Only one optional subject has to be chosen (earlier two). Two papers of same optional Compulsory Indian language subject has been removed Now marks in english paper (out of 100) will be added to total score
Mains new pattern:
Essay: 200marks English: 100 marks GS 1 (history, geography) : 250 marks GS 2 (polity, international relations) : 250 marks GS 3 (Sci-tech, environment, economy) : 250 marks GS 4 (Ethics, integrity, aptitude) : 250 marks (what the hell happened to UPSC) Optional subject : 250 + 250 = 500 marks
Total written exam marks: 1800 Interview marks: 275 Grand total: 2075 marks
