Just enroll in some coaching center at ashok nagar,. Rc reddy is good but overcrowded. Now students there dont take down notes like my batch guys used to. So a big -ve aspect

for this year, u r late for coaching. Try crash course but go for mains. For prelims, concentrate on paper 2 and clear.

Dude I seriously dont know what you are thinking. Optionals are the easiest and most scoring aspect of mains. No one gets more marks in general studies compared to optionals. If you find any one, give him/her my sastang pranaam for 100 times.

Optionals have limited syllabus and we can guess 75% of paper. It just repeats. Sky is the limit for GS - equal to studying for 6 optionals to write one paper.

UPSC doesn't want us to score easy marks but wants us to die studying. So, it is planning to remove optionals. Anyways lets wait & see what happens.

@TRUE--WARRIOR GOOD!! Who wants to score more friend? We just want equal ground!!

optionals create equal ground. gs scatters people all along the range of marks list

it's impossible for newcomers to study all the subjects of gs in short time. if weightage is increased, their only chance to fight is gone.
ok first things first. interview guys concentrate on interviews & new guys on prelims first. let mains go to hell for now

@TRUE--WARRIOR
I am a novice for CSE exam. So,please suggest me how I should start preparation. I am working professional and staying in Hyderabad. I am not from AP, so I don't have idea which coaching institute is good over here.
Personally I don't know any person who have cracked IAS exam. so requesting you to suggest how and from where I should start preparation. Though I am working professional but I am ready to work hard for CSE exam. Time is too less, hence I am not aiming for 2013 rather I am aiming 2014 exam.Please advice me with books and preparation model.

Cheers,

@Somhere
Start with 2013 itself as we have 4 attempts and hardly people use their 4th (atleast not seriously). Do you want to still be in the job scramble after 5 years. Your profile tells that you can do well in paper 2.
I have some information from RTI that not many newcomers know. There is no sectional cutoff in prelims. The overall cutoff is 50%. So, technically if you score 100% in paper 2 (very easy for po,ssc,gre,cat,mba aspirants) & 0% in paper 1, you are through. (just for idea. do not even think about doing this)

To all civil service newcomers:

I know many of you haven't attended coaching & so don't know much about prelims. I'll put everything you need to know about prelims in single post. This is what people understand after attending coaching for 6 months and after looking at numerous previous/model papers. So, put it on your desktops & follow it.

Paper 2:
As I have been repeatedly saying, try to get maximum marks in paper 2 which is nothing but reasoning and english. Just aim for 200/200 in paper 2 and get as close to it as you can. Try doing more & more comprehension passages.

Quick and effective action plan for paper 1:

1. Start with modern history straightaway & finish it
2. Study environment part (very small)
3. Be thorough with Indian economy (incl economic survey & social schemes of govt)

If you think the above things looked manageable, continue reading for best part:

1. Ignore ancient & medieval history at this point. Try to get some titbits of culture & religion though.
2. Ignore geography if you dont have time but remember to study environment part thoroughly as I already mentioned above
3. Ignore science too! Just learn about new innovations in biotechnology & leave. Dont read chemistry or solve physics problems even if you have spare time.
4. Ignore current affairs. However while studying indian economy, study the latest developments like budget, present inflation & state of economy etc or you will regret.

PS: This scheme will work like a charm if and only if you are comfortable with reasoning, english & basic school level maths.

I'll try to get back tomorrow sometime after midnight.
@TRUE--WARRIOR thanks buddy ... your post is really helpful..

truly engimatic!!!!!

thanks for the detailed post bro.

keep updating

@TRUE--WARRIOR
Thanks for your help and encouraging.
It would be helpful if you provide books name with author as well.
I am planning to start History and Economics with NCERT books.
For environment part what we should follow. Social science books of NCERT. Are these books enough?

One more thing, do you think any coaching materials are required. If yes then which one should opt.

Cheers,

@TRUE--WARRIOR You are indeed helping and encouraging newcomers. Thanks a lot.

nope. Never heard of any good ones. You can get online material though. Many people take postal coaching in the form of really bulky material from institutes like vajiram & ravi, brilliant tutorials etc.
I personally went to brilliant tutorial office & checked the system. They send books in installments but not all at a time.They decide what you should study & when to study. Such control over personal choice is not acceptable to many headstrong civils aspirants like me.
