Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

i am a fresh BE(electrical) pass out from a very reputed institute.i have a job offer as an electrical engineer from an EPC company.pay package is good and the profile is very good (associate manager just after one year of training).but there is a huge catch .there is a bond of 5 years of rs 5 lacs.during campus interview it was told that if we want to pursue higher studies then we will be relieved from the bond.but now when the joining has come the AGM-HR refuses to acknowledge the same.

since the profile is good and growth in company is good i dont want to leave the job and join an IT company(from which i have another offer).i wish to do my MBA after 2 years of work ex if i get through a good institute.i wont be able to pay the 5 lacs and will not have any release letter from the company.can i use my salary slip to prove my work-ex.will it be a hindrance to getting a job if i passout from a b-school and sit for campus interviews.please advice if leaving the company without release letter and showing salary slip as proof of work-ex have any negative repercussions.i will be honest to any company i sit for in campus interview after doing my MBA.please advice

Most companies would want to see a proper work-experience certificate, joining letter and salary slips won't do for them. If you decide to leave the company mid way, it's very unlikely (almost impossible) that they'll give you a work-ex certificate, so it could be problematic for you to show your work-ex.

Workex widout a workex certificate will not be considered.Salary
slips wont do.
If it had been in written that if want to pursue higher studies then u will be relieved from the bond, i wud hv suggested to join the company.
Never believe on verbal thngs. Get workex of 2 yrs in oder company
and prepare for CAT.
I have heard this question numerous times so decided to do a little research. Here are my findings :

Attached, please find the selection procedures for the Individual IIMs for admission in the 2010-2012 batch. It is quiet elaborate and will clear all your doubts :

Puys... I have some query regarding Job

A)Can a person show "Contractual Job" in his "work experience"??
B)Can we leave a "Contractual Job" in between or is it really
necessary to complete the assingnment and then offcourse you are
free to go anywhere??
C)Is there is a provision of "Signing a Bond" also??

Hi,

I am a 27 year s/w engineer working with an MNC since 5 years and earning well. I have been appearing for CAT since 3 years, starting 2008 and scoring 80, 85 and 89 percentile respectively in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Now, I am confused if I should go for CAT or forget about it as my experience is 5 years. Should I go for GMAT? Will an MBA right now hurt my profile?

Regards,
Siddharth

Buddy,
Go for either GMAT or executive mba from IIMs ... going for 2 year regular program from India would not solve your purpose at this stage according to me.

Hi bro

From my personal experience CL test series helped me a lot in verbal , specially test gym, managed to improve and get 98+ in verbal

There is no best test series bro, CLs online material is very good, Time conducts tests on the largest scale due to the volume of students taking the test. So it depends on your needs , if you think you want to start from basics go for test gym , else wise Time series can be joined

I would suggest , go thru some online sites like tcyonline and TotalGadha for free conceptual learning and tests, i am sure there are many other sites where free online tests and material are available

Now for the gap , u need to justify , your gap in the interviews , be honest while answering any how this part comes to play only after clearing cut offs , and still 1 year to go for that

U can do some profile building certifications , visit the below thread

Hi Seniors,

I am working in an IT firm. I have experience of 3 years now.
Last year i had given all MBA exams but wasn't able to convert any call. I am not able to give time to MBA Preparation because of work.
I think of quitting the job in sep/oct this year and focus fully on MBA Preparation. till then my experience would be 3.5 years.

But quittting a job a good option? will i be asked abt this in any of the interviews? (gd/pi start in march. so, till march 2010, i would be idle for 6 months)? is this option justified? How can i justify this when asked in an interview? Any one with similar experience , please reply.

Will apppreciate your reply.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Andy

Hi Andy!!
You're dilemma is d same as many have posted earlier
You may be asked about this ion an interview, or may be not (depends on ur luck). But believe you me Justifying a preparatory gap for CAT is not an issue
But if u give our heart out in preparation in these 6 months, its surely gonna help u a LOT
So... jus go 4 it!!

hi bro ,
i for one feel leaving a job should be one's last option . As i have seen many who end up joining lower grade colleges due to no other options . Its just not about justifying a gap but its also about a contingency plan .

But if you feel that you cant balance your job and studies at all. Then you may leave your job. I was in a similar situation last year as you are right now ,but i decided not to quit .

Hope you make the right decision for yourself . All d best

Hi guys i am bcom graduate with only 57% marks and avg at 10+2 also, i know it is very difficult to get into top b school with avg accadmic record so please help me guys what to do now can anybody tell me about career as a Company Secretory what is its scope and charm is it enough to reach top position in corporate world what if i take mba from distance will it help me with C.S. Can C.S practice as private firm or selfemploment scope plz guide me and give details regarding it.

Yes it does matter to an extent as there is general perception that bigger the company better the learning and better is exposure to corporate world , better are opportunities given, working environment is also better

but working in average company wont hurt at all . As at the end of the day ,if one is able to justify his knowledge and understanding of his role in company it wont matter if one is not from a brand mnc.Even with limited opportunities if one is willing to learn and work hard . World is his to be conquered

I differ..chances of learning r more in a local company as compared
to n mnc but yes u do get better xposure to corporate world
in n mnc.....however it varies frm situation to situation.

yes bro , i do agree to that upto a certain extend , but i think in a MNC,one gets chance of structured learning process, as these companies spend millions on training people, companies like Infosys have the best corporate traning center in india

In a local company , yes there is more freedom of dynamic learning as there are no standards processes set up for learning, so one becomes an active learner in one's job.

A biggggggggggggg query... but anyways i ll tryta help

1. IIMs u can never be sure wat criteria they follow (although they disclose it beforehand), but other top b-skools u can expect
2. SpJain gives lot of weightage 2 extra-curriculars, so if u have some. it ll be advantagious
3. XLRI gives calls typically on d XAT %ile, so u have a good chance

Any specificquery. pm me
