Hi bro,
I am one always of the opinion that we should not quit from our jobs till one is not sure of admission
Now the question , here is do you want to give CAT as you are frustrated from your current job , or your are interested in management education
if the answer is first bro , you can always try and switch from your current job to another place , or you can always request from your employers regarding relocation
if answer second one , bro if you are really interested in MBA, and you think you cant balance your job and CAT , then chase your dream bro , and give your best shot ( but do remember that you might not get your dream college this year but thats the worst case scenario), As many times i have seen people compromising on colleges as they left their job and now have no other option
Puys...i need help...i m in dilemma.. I m a 2009 engineeering graduate. My acads are Xth - 92 %, XIIth- 87% and grad 5.9/10 (from a reputed college)....i m currently working in a multinational manufacturing company as testing engineer for almost past 1 yr (11 months n some days). I m interested in marketing n my current job is not at all suitable for my ambitions in the field of marketing.also i m not enjoying my job.... A had taken CAT 09...nd got 95 percentile. LAst yr was a half hearted attempt with myself in two minds whether to give CAT or continue here...but this time i want to give a whole hearted shot at CAT.... So is it advisable to leave this job which i m nt enjoyin...n give my best shot at CAT ??

Well i dont want to stay in kolkata and move to pune but i'm sure unsure how the college is. I'd been there for the interview and saw that most people coudnt even in english over there, even those who had come for admissions. whereas there course structure has got commerce subjects as much as computers, whereas nshm kolkata has got only computer topics in syllabus. Affiliated to WHUT, and MITSOM to PU.
I've been staying in kolkata for quite some time and i am quite not comfortable with this place, whereas pune has got good oppurtunities.
Please help me making a decision, with honest reviews. I have not more than 5 days to decide.
Well, another problem, Well this is a serious problem. My friend has just given her A-Level exams ending 11th this june. Results awaited in August.
her exams just got over, and now the dates in most of the colleges are gone. Having lost 2 years, she cannot even wait for the next year for admissions.
She wants to go for Ba/Bsc in Psychology. Can anyone please help out with what are the options available for her ?
Please help. Its about her life here .. No time ..

there is a post by someone who cleared IIM final call..some excerpts: "2. Work Experience: 13 months in an IT company. And I quit 2 months before CAT and had been sitting at home since that, which meant I had to answer "Why did you quit your job?" questions in all interviews.
. Do not follow my example and quit your job or anything - have a Plan B in place. Things are pretty uncertain and if you do not have that little bit of luck you need, things can go wrong. Even though what I did worked out for me in the end, it was a huge risk I took and very few people would have a penchant for risk-taking."

If that's the case, neither do I see a problem in taking a break, nor do I see a problem in explaining it. If you feel this would help in your preparations, I would suggest you to go for it.
Gave CAT,CET,FMS etc but didn't got a call from any top colleges. Some of the colleges that I applied and got admit are Bimtech, IMT-D which I am not considering to go because I a want to be in Finance field and Bimtech is known much more for Mktg and Insurance than Fin, IMT-D is out of question simply because I can't afford it. Now I recently applied to newly opened NIIT University and got thru their process and have an admit offer, my dilemma is whether to join a university which is newly opened??? or to again go for CAT n All????
I was working, then I quit my job now with no more decent options left, I am also looking for Job. In b/w I gave my CFA L-1, this June.
M in a fix whether to join this university or not????
Did some Homework on this, to share with you guys:
Pros of Joining NIIT Univ: a) Small Batch(60 Students) b) Mentorship under a CEO. c) Assured Placements by a group of 8 companies till date, min offering would be 5.5 LPA by these Co's.
Cons of Joining NIIT Univ: a) 1st Batch(so obviously no prev statistics etc) b) The management says Assured, dunno whether they really mean this or not.... c) Cost-11 LPA Total for 2 yrs(Though there are scholarships)
Some of my other considerations that I am also exploring: a) If I enroll for Distance Learning prog, will it be of greater value considering that I do from NMIMS or IMT or Symbi CDL in comparison to Regular Prog at NU (NIIT Univ)?? b) If I take up my course at NU and simultaneously do some other course as well, would it be really helpfull for finding a placement??
I would be taking a loan & 11 lakhs is a huge amount to invest, my biggest fear is what will happen if I couldn't get a gud job....:-(

Puys Plz do advice........ Serious views needed..
yes bro 11 lacs is huge amount , consider an standard interest of 10% meaning for loan of 2+5 years . Consider an EMI of 20k+.
Bro just consider the risk appetite you should have for such a loan. Only major problem you have is that you left your job and you dont have many options
Bro i would suggest prepare once more this year . For experience you can join any coaching center as a faculty or a finance related Any thing you can show your work ex . Even family business work ex would also do.so that you dont have a gap of more than one year
if you want to have a better learning then you have try for better b school. Bro its just not about books you learn from your peers and faculty more than you can ever imagine .
All d best . Hope you make the right decision for yourself

as said above..11L is a very very big amount..i think one shouldnt take so much risk..
you also said that you took CFA L-1 exam..if you get thru that..the gap can be overlooked easily..and you can utilise this year to prepare for L-2 also.. moreover interviewers look majorly on the knowledge aspect of a candidate..so even if you're not able to clear L-1, you would be having decent knowledge in fin..which would help u in the interviews.. moreover if you are able to score well in the written..then dropping an year wouldn't matter that much...(considering ur still preparing for CFA)
I am from Jaipur.I am doing my B.Tech-IT 3rd year(65% above in each semester).I am planning to do an MBA after my engineering.I wanna just ask a simple question:
Is it true that all colleges of 5 metros & Hyd-Pun-Ahm are better, than any given college of Jaipur. Is it like that, 90% colleges of big metros are better than those of Tier II cities. If yes, why is it so???
Also if good (actually above average) colleges are having an average package of 2.8 per annum; then what's the whole use of doing MBA after engineering, if we get 3.2 just after a B.tech ?????
This question is very important as there are thousands of students from different parts of this country. Each one of them might have wondered at this at some point of his/her life.

Hi,
Your question is very vague. There is nothing like colleges in metro are better then those in Tier 2 cities. There are lot of colleges which keep mushrooming in India both in Metro cities and Tier II cities. You must have read the article "Why over 1500 B-Schools in India could shut down in the next two years"
Secondly i don't understand why a B.Tech with a campus placements offer of 3.2 Lakhs would go in for a college who's average salary is just 2.8 Lakhs. I don't think any one is that naive. Generally guys join the job and give another attempt.
And if your MBA is not from the top 50 (May be can relax till top 80 Colleges) its going to be a very tough job for climbing up the ladder in a organization. A B.Tech fresher capable of getting 3.2 Lakh salary will by all means target the top 30-40 colleges. Getting below that will be a bit of risk for his career.

Hi,
If you want to know about the good MBA colleges, go thru the list of top 50-80 MBA colleges in India in Pguy. It does not matter in which city or town it is present. Even Kozhikode, Shillong, etc. have IIMs right? Apart from the list, another way is to individually try to know more about the colleges. If you want to know the real worth of Jaipur colleges, try to know about them. Talk to ppl who have passed out from those. Try to know about placement figures. Then you can decide if the college is worth trying for.
Answering your second question, if an MBA college is offering placements with packages of 2.8 lpa per avg, its obvious that its not good. As you said you are getting 3.2, why do MBA for 2.8 then! Choose MBA clgs with avg placement package of at least 5-6 lpa.
Just surf PG a bit more and your GK about MBA colleges will increase automatically. 😉

First try to get an extension from the companies and gear up for next cat. Never mind even if the companies reject. keep ur self out of pressure. giving CFA etc depends upon u. If you can manage CAT PREP and CFA well and good no harm in doing it. But if you feel you cant manage time better concentrate on one thing at a time.

Hi,
If your backlog result is not going to come before your date of joining in companies, i fear that they won't conitnue with their offer. There is no harm i asking for the extension in date of joining , this will give you time to get clear with pending exams and join the company without any fear as they want that at time of joining, you should be satisfying their criteria and no existing backlog should be there.
Now, you can prepare for CAT along with job and quit it once you get a decent b-school.
However , if you are not interested in asking for extension , then i would suggest to join some NGO ( their are few NGOs which pay you as well ) or some other organization where job schedule is not too hectic and you can prepare for CAT simultaneously.
I will suggest to go for CFA etc if you want to pursue mba in the field which is in sync with your certification domain else even doing the certification won't serve the purpose in long run when it comes to build career in specific specialization.
Had i been in your shoes, i would have got my date extended and then prepare for CAT simultaneously with job .

guys, plz reply to this
If you are not too desperate of joining this year itself.. i would suggest to prepare once more and try to get in better colleges like MICA etc.
