Hello . Sorry if this is nt the right place to post this query or nt.
Hi my name is sagar. am currently pursuin mba in marketing and ahve just completed my first yr and summer intern ( well almost)
i will like to ask as a marketing person ..... what should i take up..... a winter project with wipro furnitures ? or continue on my fourth trimester ?
my acads are average as also my extra events participation. will the winter project be of any help in plaement season ?
thanks a lot in advance !
Am not a marketing person but can say that you should take up the winter project if it completes before the start of your placement season, else it won't hold any value as you won't be able to show its certificate. However, if you're just in it for learning, you can surely take it up if you feel it's good enough.
(Sorry for starting that new thread...And i need more suggestions from you with regard to short term courses if any )
This query is on behalf of my Friend's friend who is staying in a village inside TN... I was seriously not able to find an answer for this..So i came to pagalguy... She is currently stepping into the 5th year on her bsc. & msc. (computer science) course ( this is some dual or twinning prog where you will be finishing masters in 5 years once after you complete 12 th ..its a direct course) ... she is doing it in Annamalai university Chidambram. The college doesn't even know the meaning of placements it seems and for past many years there was nothing visible to the eyes of the computer dept. I mean to say there is literally not even a single company coming in.
She is desperately in need of a job now as she would like to support her family ...so does the family requires her support.. Many a times few IT companies cheat those students saying " pay me 1000rs i will teach you what are the things done in this company and i will give you certificate for the same all this in 10 days " and not only her lot of her other friends also go and fall into this trap thinking they would get a job for this .. And she was asking me about the job prospects in chennai as a matter of fact if you are a outsider ( in the sense off campus) its clearly near to impossible to search for a IT related job.... it applies even to chennai colleges..
She wanted to know whether there are any short term courses or any long term course anywhere in india (if possible something in south) on IT that COULD FETCH HER A JOB.. please guys i don't want niit or something else as i know lot of my friends who are city guys they hardly get jobs. She would like to know any course where the fees is less and increasing job prospects are there.. Even if there are some entrance exams for that she is ready for it .( i know about JNU for biotechnology where fees is very less and prospects are great... i want something on that lines too)..i asked her to do mba in IT after writing cat but she is not ready for 4 lkhs fees... so clearly i dint know what else is there as i am not from IT background.. What can these souls do who are from village ... ... your help will be highly appreciated
My joining is in OCtber and a fact is...if I join.. I wont be able to give my best shot coz of the workload @ infosys.
bro its a very individualistic decision , if you feel you can perform well in this years CAT then go ahead give your best shot. I had also seen cases where people have delayed there joinings by giving some personal and medical reasons .
I am awaiting my final year B.E Chemical engineering results...I have been placed in tcs and yokogawa...which is a btr option???the pay ia almost the same in the 2...but I have plans of doing masters later on...keeping that in mind, which suits the best??i am completely confused....
hey...one more question....which company is better for chemical engineers???biocon or jubilant organosys....both are coming for campus recruitment and i can sit only for one of them....please help...

Buddy!
Go slow! Same post in 4 different threads won't serve the purpose. Try to post the query once in appropiate thread.
This query has been answered by a fellow puy in the other thread and in its reply you said that you are doing job in compulsion and not with interest.
If this really is the case, i would suggest to quit the job and prepare just for CAT because if you are doing anything by compulsion, then neither you would do well in job nor you would be able to concentrate properly on your preparation.
If you think , job is of some interest then gaining work ex always helps during PI as well as for getting calls from few colleges where work ex has weightage.
I am currently doing my BE CSE at MIT Manipal, just got over with my 4th sem. As far as i understand, after my BE I have the following choices 1)MBA 2)MTech 3)MS 4)Placement
While my interest does lie on the technical side, I have ruled out MTech and MS as Mtech-Leads to becoming a professor, or if i go to the industry it does not offer any significant salary benefits MS-Very research oriented, again leads to PhD, am looking more towards a stable high paying job in the future as a best case scenario.
That left me with Placement and MBA
Now, if I get a good placement(6+LPA) then would that still be a better choice than an MBA? Also, I believe there is a MBA in Information Systems known as PGDCM. Which are the good institutes that offer this, and does it lead to good jobs?(am looking towards reaching CIO levels) also, is it any different than normal MBA in Finance or some other field?
I am not even aiming to get into the IIM's as my General awareness is currently nil, so need to look at other options. Also, what is the best time to start preparation for CAT ?

1. MBA is not only about placements and money.MBA has a greater meaning than mere 'MONEY' 2.Not Necessary,It depends whether the college is an autonomous entiy or affiliated to some universities. If everything goes wellI should have an MBA(IT) degree next year..
3. CIO !!! Way2 go !!! .Search for IT threads .I have posted the job opportunities in IT in couple of threads.
4.Jab jaago tab savera ...Why not start the prep just after u complete reading this post.

hi vaibhav, 4 months is nothing great for work ex. most of the good colleges donot even have any option for form filling if work ex. is less than a year, i also had a work ex. of 8 months, but its nothing great, they will give more preference to your written results and how well you perform in the gd/pi. so better is if you give your 100%towards the prep. and what i feel when you give cat for the first time it takes time to gear up so maybe starting from september will not be a good idea, start from now on, ALL D VERY BEST.
This is my first post here at Pagalguy forums. I went through the forum and found this to be an apt place for me to be. I do not know if this is the right place to post this, please excuse me if this is the wrong place for posting what I'm about to do.
I have done my BMS(Bachelor in Management Studies) and now I'm looking to give my CET exam(along with some others like NMAT) in Feb. 2011. I wish to do MBA from a reputed institute after that. The issue with me as that I am not sure what specialization to take. I was going through one of the threads in this forum where someone suggested that one gets a good idea about what suits him during the first year of MBA and one is in a better position to decide which specialization to take. I want to confirm this. Is it that in the first year we get to know about all the specializations? I'm very confused. I also want to know if Finance and Accounting are two different specializations. I'm very bad at accounts and to be honest I don't like that subject at all. If Finance and Accounting are different specializations, please tell me what is the difference between the two. Looking at the scope and demand for finance, I'm attracted to this field but I do not like accounts. So if finance means having good knowledge of accounting, my troubles would only aggravate. I have heard Finance involves studying about shares, mutual funds, insurance etc. Is that true? If yes, is it advisable to do some course in this line while I'm doing my CET classes?
I don't like the subject of accounts. I am also not an extrovert and I do not like to interact with people. This means I would not fit into marketing even though I have interest in advertising and can interact well.
I'm extremely confused... please tell me what I should do. Will I get a clear idea during my first year at a B-school about which specialization I should take or should I make up my mind now itself and start learning more about that particular specialization?
They are very different indeed. Don't worry, even if you hate accounting you can still do well in finance. But the decision needs to be far more thought out than just this.
Accounting is the entire process that starts from recording entries to consolidating and making financial statements.
Finance is a very different ballgame. Difficult to define, since it has taken on such a wide ambit of roles over the last few years, but mostly to do with funds.
There are 2 basic branches - Finance in corporates and in financial services industry.
In corporates you would be looking at managing its treasury (funds) and trade services if it is into impex. In banks/fs there are many many different roles that can vary from sales (front-end) to servicing (back office) to analytical (mid office) type of roles. Too many to define at least.
Overall, its way too early to look at specialization. But great idea to look at some basic courses that will help you through the process also. Don't worry, just work hard at the next obstacle in your way...MBA entrance. You can cross the specialization bridge when you come to it.

First of all, try to talk to someone who can tell you about the placements for the cap markets course..and compare it with the placements of NMIMS bang... if ur certain that after dropping an year you would be able to get into IIMs or some other top college I would say go for it.. I faced the same dilemma..so I took admission in SIMSR PGDM IB and took CAT again while studying in SIMSR...didnt get high enough percentile to get through MDI,IIM etc..the point is that sometimes one might not even get the opportunity one got in the first place (in my case SIMSR)....
have heard a lot about CCAP on the forums..but I dont know anyone personally who took the same route..so it makes me think that there must be some downside to it..
for making a career in finance..only top 15 bschools have abundant decent fin profiles on offer in campus placements..after that the number of decent fin profiles comes down dramatically...

I disagree actually...according to me accounting is one of the building blocks of finance...a good finance professional should be comfortable with financial statements atleast...
if ur working in credit analyst division...you would need to check your debtors fin statements and analyse them..if you are working in equity research roles..you will need to have a decent idea of financial modelling (which at times involves projecting financial statements)...
when CRISIL came to our campus for placements..they asked a lot of balance sheet and P&L; related questions...
HI everyone iam ankit, can somebody please tell me about It infrastructure services, about the work, career growth, and future scope if we take it.how is it different from software and other jobs?

Buddy,
There have been cases where people even took a break from job for CAT Preparation and finally justified it well in their interviews and made it to coveted institutes. People have taken breaks in past and this is not a new trend and hence not that difficult to convince the panel.
Anyways, as of now, interviews are secondary ( till you secure a GD/PI call ). I will suggest to focus on preparation and get the calls from colleges where you wish to study. This is not a major issue and can be tackled once you get a call.
