Yes thats my preference nw.. But if there is a break in career, is it little hard to convince the interviews..
hi buddy,
it totally depends on you how you want to go for preprn ...
if you feel that work timings and schedule won't permit you to prepare well.... you can leave the job and crack cat and other exams ....
but, if you feel your job has limited work and you will be able to manage studies with job, you should continue the job as it will help you in terms of work ex during calls from various institutes. .... but keep one thing in mind, that after office, you will have to give sometime to studies consistently ( if you are preparing for first time )
ps: i have done my preprn with job and few of my frns left the job and prepare ... so, it's purely your call depending on your work pressure ..
all the best!
Its unadvisable to leave ur job ...sit..and prepare for CAT So its upto u to go for PGDM from 2010 or 2011 but plz dont leave ur job as only preparing for CAT wud b considered as a gap and will go against u.

Yes i agree.. But working in Support Project is nt giving me any technical experience in my domain. So basically i m just earning and staying in company.. No growth

Then take all xams n choose the best instt available to u. I kno that naukri aur padhaai kabhi saath saath nahi ho paati so go for mba this yr itself. Advice is based on the fact that u r not satisfied wid ur job and its a hectic schedule for u .So unless u r xcellent student u will not b able to do justice wid ur CAT prep along wid 24*7 work schedule.

Disagreeing with what's been mentioned earlier, there's no one answer that whether one should leave his job or not. As Varun mentioned, many people left their jobs to concentrate on CAT and did well. Of course, you'll have to be prepared to face questions about it but if you've taken a break for the right reasons, then you can surely justify it as well.
So, bottom line is, it's your life and your career. If you believe that you're losing more than gaining by being on the job, leave it, else continue with it.
PS: I had left my job 2 months prior to CAT, as I thought I wasn't getting enough time to prepare for it. I don't think I did poorly, converted quite a few good calls.

Programmer Analyst at Inductis or Research Analyst at Grail Research? I have two offers in hand and confused which one to join.. Grail Research or Inductis...Please give ur insights or pros and cons of both the firms... thnks
This is my first post on PG and I'd like to get a problem sorted out right away. Following is my profile -
10th - 78 % 12th - 53 % B.Tech - 7.6/10 CGPA Current - 19+ months work-ex in IT - working with a MNC
Other Details - Numerous participations in extempore activities with a bunch of certificates to prove the same since the days in school. An A+ rating in my current organization.
My Query: I have reasons to believe that the above profile will not get me through with an Interview from any of the niche B-Schools. I have prepared for CAT 07 and scored 90 percentile in the same.I am looking forward to take CAT 10.
Request the experienced folks to throw some light.

Your concern is valid but not so much so that you will not be called by any top institute even if you perform well in the entrance test. If you perform well in the CAT you can surely expect a call from possibly IIMA and surely from IIMC, MDI Gurgaon etc. If you do intend to give the CAT in 2010 concentrate on cracking the test and do not bother about the outcome.
Its unadvisable to leave ur job ...sit..and prepare for CAT So its upto u to go for PGDM from 2010 or 2011 but plz dont leave ur job as only preparing for CAT wud b considered as a gap and will go against u.
If purpose of taking a gap is trying to focus on your ultimate goal of cracking the CAT and if you end up getting a call, I guess you have justified your decision. I do not see any problem in taking a break if one believes that he/she has the potential to crack the same and is willing to work hard in that direction.
When I started preparing for CAT( Started on 21st july 2009) I dint expect to get a great college, but at least a Good B-School was my target. Wrote CAT,SNAP,XAT,TISS & MAT. SNAP-84.5( Dint get a call ) XAT- Had not at all prepared-got 68% MAT- 90.28% Have applied to few colleges under MAT but I feel these are not good B-schools. I don't want to compromise on the quality of a b-school. I am confused!! Should i write CAT again or join some MAT college?? If i decide to write next year,i will have to do a JOB,cant waste a whole year again...I am A engineer and to be frank hate IT jobs!! I have interest in doing MBA in HR. I dont know what to do?? I am completely lost!! Please give me suggestions Puys!!

I don't think taking a MAT B-school at 90 %ile would be a good idea. There are hardly a few good colleges through that and they probably call at a much higher range. If CAT doesn't turn out well for you, I would say you should consider appearing again next year.
I am in final year Engineering. Got placed in TCS and Aricent.
I am not able to decide which company to join.
I am putting up in Gurgaon and Aricent has its training and posting here in gurgaon where as TCS would send me to anywhere but not in Delhi NCR.
Please give me some pros and cons of these 2 companies .
Thanks
Deciding between companies ! Always a tough job Decide what is higher priority for you ? Delhi/NCR ie loc or work. If loc go with Aricent. Aricent means mostly you enter in Telecom sector ! and Yes, Telecom is one of the best field to be IN !! In economic slowdown also it was least affected ! TCS means mostly a training in Trivendrum and job in Mumbai Can get transfer later to Delhi TCS but believe me its not that easy ! Onsite chances will be more in TCS but these days you cant say as mostly companies outsource everything and there is a big queue at onsite :banghead: But TCS would be better launch pad than Aricent when it comes to training part. And Yes last thing TCS doesnt give joining dates that easily .. people have a long wait so in that case go with Aricent .. dont wait !! Hope it helps.
This particular query shud be addressed by folks who are in B skools and are in a better position to answer it :
After a 4 yr good work-ex in IT field , does it make decent sense to do a 2 yr Management degree from a top-tier B skool ? > If yes , then for lateral placements i'll be tagged IT guy and can max make it to IT consulting with decent pckg.Considering that an MBA education in India now is an expenditure of 10-15 lac approx , will the return on investment be considerate ?
PLease put across all your views , i'll appreciate them

First of all, it's not that you'll only be considered a lateral for IT jobs. Although some companies do look for relevant work-ex, most of them just set a cutoff of 24 months or so to be classified as a lateral. So you can very well bag a lateral profile with an FMCG company or a Financial setup or in an HR role, whichever interests you more.
Secondly, talking of ROI, you should get a placement which pays you enough to pay off your expenses, plus EMIs of any loan that you may take to cover your educational expenses plus of course, ensures that you save something as well. In case you don't take a loan, then of course your cutoff would be slightly lower but since you have 4 yrs of work-ex, the salary you leave would also have some bearing on your "cutoff in hand salary", as an opportunity cost. So just get a rough figure for that to be more sure of your decision.
However, I do believe that even after having 4 yrs of work-ex, you can still join a regular MBA program and get a good job for yourself. Here the definition of a good job being that which not only pays you well but also offers you a good profile.
