Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

@hector

friend my next query.... :)

Well, the schools would help you arrange for interns...
If you have made your mind to be in Fin domain, utilize your time by giving CFA-1 and 2.

Hi PUYS!!! I am a 2009 engg passout placed in TCS but still there is no sigh of joining
Meanwhile I was preparing for MBA and trying in various companies.I could not take up any course as there was no certainity when I will get my joining and I will have to go...
Now I have more than 8 months gap
Will it be a damper in my MBA interviews??How should I justify this gap??
Plzzzzzzz helpppp!!!!!!

Well... dude everyone knows how the market condition was last year specially for ITeS and you being a engineer would have definitely felt the heat of same....even the guys who were lucky enough to bag a job had to wait for indefinite period of time for their joining... this is not a hidden fact and even the interviewer would be knowing how difficult it was for freshers to get a job and for experienced guys to retain their job....So in that case if you could justify that you really did some productive work(for ex. working for NGOs or any similar stuff like that),I don't see any reason why you could not clear any of the interviews....and best of luck for your future endeavors.

Well Rachit..to get your preferred location after training is very tough these days ... TCS was definitely one of the company who use to give the location as associates preference, but that was long time back....nothing sort of this now...and as far as brand name is considered...all the above companies are of same league and there is not much of difference in any of the above's work culture.
With the calls coming in ,I ve started to feel apprehensive to convince myself and others of my "Why MBA".
All I could think of and say is that my dream is to start to a micro financial institution similar to the business models of Bank of Mudra and the Grameen bank .Please seniors throw some light on how an MBA in finance would try to reach towards it and whic h career path in finance should i chose ....

P.S: It seems pathetic and really sad that the introspection should ve happened before the preparations and not after the first step
Hallo guys,
This is Rachit from Mumbai.

After you complete your training in Infy, they ask you for your preferred location. And 90% of the times you get it !! :cheerio: unless there is a project urgency.. telling from my experience

Thanks a lot , really appreciate the comments.
However I was more interested in areas such as :

a. BI
b. Software testing
c. MCP areas

Please guide me on certs which would enable a new career in these areas,if possible.

Incidentally I understand Edista testing(QAI Global unit) is providing the Diploma in Software tesing which last a month and costs 0.5lacs, now I would appreciate if you could share your informed opinion in this so that I can pursue that more seriously?

Look forward to a reply,please.

a. BI
b. Software testing

You may want to look at six-sigma certifications...

please advise me on my decision

Yes, of course you can work wonders with a bachelors degree. Degree is not everything. Well sensibility of choice depends on what you want in future...More money ? then of course London is the best place :p
But you feel you can progress more here, you can always come. You are from Fin background where mostly now companies are preferring an MBA here in India.. so you can try searching jobs online in India and give telephonic interviews.. Coming after Masters also would also be fine...
Guess you can also think of doing MBA from London and then come here to work if you really dont have any money and ROI constraints.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I would prefer to work straight after my Bachelors if possible but which companies in India accept economics students? I really have no clue about the job market. If I wanted to do my MBA in India I could probably get into SIBM Pune - will that make me more employable? I spoke to an IIT graduate whos about to go to the US to do his MBA and he said SIBM is mediocre and I should only consider the top 10 mba schools in India - is that true? I could do a masters in finance at Warwick/Imperial but from talking to other people they said an MBA in India adds more value than a masters in UK?

Sorry if ive asked too many questions. Hope you can help.

Thanks

You are welcome!
I am working in IT industry from last 4 years so really dont know much about fin-domain but yes have some friends in Fin domain..so really cant suggest you the companies. One of my friend IIM-grad got into ICICI and according to him situation has not improved very much.. Companies are taking very less guys. This is with MBA so without it you never know !
If I were you, I would have targeted to do MBA from Warwick/Imperial. They are really good.
Even I think, MBA in India would add more value than Masters in UK. But it doesnt apply if you do MBA from UK.
SIBM is one of the best college in India but yes comes only after IIMs, MDI etc.. So out of top-10 list.. but still SIBM, Pune has very good reputation here. Also with just bachelors, it would be really difficult to score a luring high package job.
Confused you more Consider your priorities as :
1- Try for MBA in UK
2- Try for MBA in India
3- Try for Masters there
4- Job without Masters in India. However you can start searching here and you can judge how much replies you get. Good luck!!

i have just a bit of query . I am an mba aspirant but uptil now the season has not being that satifactory , my profile goes

10 (88.34%)
12(75.4%)
graduation with physics (61.5%) calcutta univ
post grad (54%)
i have another negative in my CV
16 months gap after post grad(it is not that i was sitting idly and doing nothing but have not done any full time course or full time work)
in that 16 months gap i had volunteered with an NGO , where i am joining full time now

with "this " profile does it makes enough sense for me to target the top 12 b schools in india next year?WHY I WANT TO DO MBA IS CLEAR TO ME . pls suggest someon or i sha;; settle with any cool bank job etc

hi guys i came to this forum looking for some advice.i hope i posted at the right place.the thing is that i have always been a good student averaging well above 80% in my 10th and +2 boards(87 and 84 respectively).but what happened is that after +2 i gave the entrance exams and i got thru to manipal university.now i thought that manipal was a very expensive college and the placements arent that great there.
so i decided not to join manipal and give a drop.in my drop year i did decently.i caame in the eml of iitjee got an ok rank in aieee aand did quite well in wbjee and comedk etc.with my ranks i could have easily got a good college in either bangalore(like bms ms ramaiah) or thru aieee(bit patna dr mgr or some low nit like raipur etc)but i decided to go for brand name and via my wbjee rank
i enrolled myself in jadavpur university for the pharmaceutical technology course.i had this idea that even if you get a bad stream but study in a good college you will get a good job.and as you know jadavpur is one of the most premier engg colleges in india(ranked 12th just after iits).but after i took admission i found out that pharmacy is areally bad career option.firstly one does not get a good job after doing b pharma.
the salary is in the 5000-10000 monthly range.its a research based career option where ull have to study a lot for very little gains.even after further degrees like m pharm career options are very bleak.so the thing is i filled up the wbjee form for this year so that i could give it one more time and perhaps get a good course in jadavpur university itself.but the thing is if i do change after this year there will be a two year gap between
my +2 ad college.something that is seen i very bad light these days especially after iit have changed their rules about the number of attempts.id also say that most of you would advise me to go for mba and i know i can do it but the thing is that i dont consider mba to be a very good option for an engineer because your technical knowledge wont be of much use thereafter.and also the engg students who go for mba are mostly the ones who study in a poor
college or dont get good marks in engg and hence dont get jobs.so i want to know that if i change this year will i get a good job after my 2 year gap because i know that it is somewhat of a hindrance in getting jobs.or should i just go forward with my course and do mba thereafter.id also like to point out that i dont care much as to what i study as long as i get a good job.please do advise guys
