Hey Vikram_cat
I think you are right. I was thinking on similar lines but was a bit confused but now I am clearer. :)
Thanks a lot for helping me out!
Another dilemma now will be getting multiple offers from multiple big companies. :P
It will be TCS, Infosys and Accenture now. I have to make a decision to select from these. Any insights on the same?
i think tcs or infy... these companies have good onsite oppurtunities..i guess go for tcs ...work culture and onsite both r good...go for tcs
Hey guys!
I am in my final year in computer engineering....... I basically wanted to ask whether it is better to take up a job with a big IT firm like TCS, Infosys and Accenture or go with the smaller ones like Vistaar, Geodisc, etc.
....Which one would be better from an MBA in future perspective?
If you are looking for just 1-2 yrs workex before MBA, all this wont make much of a difference. 1st year will pass even before you understand what is the purpose of the project you are working on :)
Also, none of these companies will offer you anything exceptional to work on. As pointed out by the others, some companies do have greater onsite opportunities, but again, that depends on luck.
Still you may consider the below factors before reaching a decision(in the order given below):
1) The pay : For obvious reasons, if you have a job which pays you exceptionally well (say 7-8lacs over 3-4 lacs which others pay), go for it.
2) Job Profile : Try to see if you can get some good Non-IT profile in your area of interest. So for example, if you are interested in finance, try to get through to Indian financial firms in front-office type roles, even if the firm is small. Such an exposure will stand you out of the IT crowd.
3) Location of job : If you are living in Mumbai with your family, and if you are hell bent on pursuing an MBA in next 2-3 years, select a firm which gives you a high chance to stay in Mumbai. This way you'd save good amount of money and time. Also, if you've never been away from your home for long, it may seem tempting to do so at first, but within a few months, you'd get bored of it.
4) Onsite opportunities : Only for the sake of touring the world, unless its for a long-term(>1 or 2 yrs), in which case it adds value to the profile.
5) Worst-case scenario : If for some unavoidable circumstances, you have to stick to this job for longer time, you shouldn't regret it later.
If you are planning to pursue an MBA in 1-2 years, none of these things(growth/pay/onsite etc) really matter, because ultimately, this is not what you want to pursue for a lifetime.
Summary :
Purely from an MBA perspective, all these companies are the same. You'll be another drop in this huge ocean we fondly call "The Indian-Male-IT pool"

Best Luck!!!

well....... frankly speaking, you should do both - simultaneously.
One question - Are you sure of 100% accuracy in CAT? If yes, then you will sure get a good %ile. In this case, focus more on GD-PI.
One 'inner' reason for searching a job - if you have a job in hand, automatically your GD-PI performance will increase.

The only bad thing which looks on your profile is that you are doing nothing - in a manner of speaking - after July 2009. But if you manage good scores and GD-PI performance, you will make it.
Don't feel restless....... go, grab ALL opportunities.

abhifusion Saysplz somebody answer my query ... :(
Same as above ...
Puys, I have entered a dark and brooding state of mind, please help me get over it.
I will be giving CAT for the 3rd time this year. By the time I appear for my interviews I will have 3.5 yrs of experience (IT MNC- Telecom domain). My concern is my "overexposure" to a non-BFSI vertical and experience is going to mark me against the normative batch composition that is 2 yrs of exp post graduation. I have checked out the batch comps of institutes like IIFT and they have very few people with over 3+ yrs of experience.
I really cannot afford GMAT and want an honest answer as to whether I will stand a chance at admission into B Schools considering my "overexposure" to a field like IT servicesI have good extracurrs and decent acads. TIA.
Puys an input would be appreciated 😐

its not unusual to have people with over 3 to 4 years of experience as batchmates in bschools..in past we have had ppl till 5 yrs wrkex..so its not uncommon..
dont rely only on cat give other exams as well..try getting into a good bschool...rest will follow...
hello seniors,
I am working in tcs n nw i almost have 15months exp in tcs,
I gave snap dis yr n scored 67.75,i have applied for sitm,is it ok to quit my job n do my mba from sitm or shd i wait for one more year n give all other exams dis time?
plz suggest!!
Thanks Puys... CAT 2010 , here i come
Pardon me but I have few queries more:
# I would like to work in automobile field , and as I am doing my Mech Engg form Detroit of East (Pune) , can somebody tell me which MBA will land me in Automobile sector ??
# Does work experience count in MBA?? Even if it does so , i dont think i'll be getting good campus placement @ 50-55 % in BE , So if I do MBA right after my BE , how will be the placement scenario after MBA ??
# I read somewhere about Engineering management , what is that ?? and is it related to Automobile sector ?
thanks in advance :)
replying to ur first query my advice would be prepare properly and take cat 2010 (also give other exams) as well as prepare for ur placemnts...get a job...alongwith job keep preparing for cat and other exams also..considering the other scenario of u taking a gap what if u dont get ne bschool even after gap..then u will be in a worse situation.....
automobile sector would be more of operations mba...
wrkex does count.wt is diff for diff exams..
Hello everybody,
A final year engineering student here who got placed in TCS today
Was all happy until i heard of this pre medical test..
I have had a couple of operations till now,and have very weak legs..can walk without support, but mobility pretty limited and limp a lot while walking..physically disabled officially with quite a high percentage of disability on the certificate..
Now, am i in the danger of being eliminated during the checkup? I'm really scared now...dunno waht to do..had a neurological condition before, which is quite fine now...but the medical records speak quite negatively, which i'm sure i'll have to provide for the test!!
Really really worried...pls reply..
In short, I want to know if a orthopaedically disabled person is eligible for a job at tcs?
@Vikram_cat- I will consider these options. :)
@rockon4cat - wow! That is a really detailed answer. You have made things very clear now. I think I will prefer something in mumbai (if they let me remain here :P) and a company with a greater appeal and good training.
Thanks a lot vokram_cat and rockon4cat. I will go today to college and check which companies have selected me. (Dream companies are still remaining so I will keep on posting queries to you guys!) 😁

First of all, it would be better if you ask such queries with your profile. It becomes much easier to answer.
And now the answer: IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOU, and several other factors like your acads, family economic situation etc.
In these tough times, most people try to do both things, mba prep and job, at the same time. Some of them succeed, some do not.
You sound like you lack that 'inner' desire.... but still if you think you can do it, you surely will.
