hi puys i have got offers from tcs and IBM Global Services(not IBM Labs).I intend to work for 2-3 years and then go for mba.Which is better? Pls help
Why wait for 2-3 years if you want to do MBA?? Just start preparing alongside your job....MBA degree(from good college) on any day is better than working in TCS/IBM or any S/W company...I took a similar decision some 2 years back to stick with S/W and after 2-3 years to go for MBA...and it really back-fired for me....The competition is cut-throat here and it would become only more intense with each passing year:wow::wow:...and believe me dude nothing in the world is more boring then looking to a dumb system(comp) and writing codes....didn't want to discourage you from joining either of the companies you mentioned....both are best in their respective league......but the intention was to just guide you!!!
Hii puys, I am working as RM with a sub-broker(stock broking). I want to know 1) will my work exp. here will be considered when I will look for job in stock broking cos. or will I have any disadvantages when approaching any co.
2) Will this exp. be counted as a valid exp. by B-schools for my MBA
I needed some advice on what options do I have going forward in my career. My profile
1) BE.Computers (64%) - Mumbai University - 2002 2) Working for almost 7 yrs in reputed IT firms. Been onsite thrice. 3) Currently a team lead working on an insurance product earning betn 7.5-10L. 4) I am thinking of an MBA in IT that helps me move towards IT management.
What are my options in terms of 1) Course length 2) Full-time/Executive Courses in IIMS 3) Prospects after the course 4) Cost
I need some career advice from fellow puys .. I have done my B.Tech in 2007 from a premier engg institute by virtue of which i landed in a software engineer job that is currently paying me about 7lpa . However , it has become so much of a pain (lot of manual testing work) that i have decided to quit it . I have tried CAT before my last attempt yielding 99.xx without any call from any IIM . This year too i have attempted the test . I have about 2.5yrs of experience in a fortune 500 company now . What is it that i can do now if i flunk CAT royally again ? .. Can i try GMAT with this experience alone i.e., MBA starting Jan/Aug 2011 .. i have decent extra currics and can manage some in this in between gap period. Or should i try for a better IT job and get into the CAT race later ?. Any advice would help.

2.5 is experience on lower side my friend to apply abroad through GMAT.. Hold your job and give GMAT.. m sure who can hit more than 99 in CAT.. GMAT would not be big thing for him.. Yep, you can switch to some other domain..but utilize that gap for sure.. if you have any gap in between after you complete your grad.. you need to explain it to the adcom guys !! Can try joining some NGO at good post or any non-profit.. will help a lot in strengthening your app... can also try for a swicth
I need one suggestion. I have 4 years of experience in an IT MNC and this was my first company which I joined straight after graduation no gap and all. Also I worked on a foreign assignment for my company in US for an Year. But last two months(Nov and Dec 09) I took break from my job to give some more time for my preparation. My exams went ok I am expecting some calls this time. Can some one please suggest if I should take up another job and work till I get admission or should I do something else which will add more value to my resume. Also will these two months gap create any negative impact during Personal Interview.
Can anyone pls clear my confusion...I have just..:( only 56% in my 10th and in 12 ~61,Btech (CSE) ~ 62% . So wat are my chances to get in some gud B-School.. And also suppose I get in after scoring gud percentile/score watever the insti takes....Do u think i'l face challenges (I guess ofcourse)during placement in that B school...Is it possible that may be some companies will not allow me to sit in their recruitment process...(I faced this in my B.tech time) but later on one US MNC came to rescue me..Till now i'm in same company(Thnx to Recession) (Wrkex ~40 months).. So puys wat you think ..wat s'd I do...go ahead with my technical career or go for MBA.. IIFT,JMET screwed me already..Very optimistic in CAT & SNAP results..Again probably SCMHRD will not cal me watevr my score will be... Please puys help....Waiting for your reply....
i have the same dilemma.. to an extent.. i got placed in INFOSYS.. but i really am not interested in nethign technical. i really want to do mba.. asap.. from a good colg ofcr.
but the thing is, that ma cat wasnt that great..and i suppose i wont get a 95% + and i am mostly interested in marketing and adversiting.
my other entrances wer so so. din get thru iift or jmet.
SENIORS,
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO? SOULD I GO TO INFY, GET EXP.. ( because even if i do, i am keen with creatives and add making.) AND THEN DO MBA.?? ( i also have a good academic and extra- curr record.)
i know i sound confused... but i really need some experienced help.! 😞
MBA won't fulfill your inclination towards creatives and ad making. There are lot of design and communication schools in India which might help you. Search for them. Also, I do not think that if you want to break into "creative' filed, you require an MBA. Demonstrate that your interest towards this field is just more than "keenness". If you do not have it yet, make a profile where you can show your creativity/ideas and start knocking on the doors of advertising agencies in Mumbai for jobs. After 10-15 interviews, you will know if you are good enough for it or not.
This is particularly not for you, but it pains me to see lot of people thinking that they are creative without understanding the science which goes behind it. Do some research, spend few weeks reading material on creativity and ad-making. Read about the industry, talk to people who are working in ad agencies. To put it mildly, just as Bollywood/Hollywood has millions of failures and dark secrets behind one success, same is with advertising/creative field. Compared to that, the software industry is a great leveler
It is a good idea to do some research first and find out that a hobby can become a career or not. :)
Cheers, Rohit
thanks rohit :)
i shall value ur advice and keep that in mind, but as a matter of fact, i have dun the research and i also know that mba is not the rt way for getting into add making. but for some reasons.. i want to go the way i , mentioned above.
Hi Puys, I have some dilema. I have 86.8 % in 10th (ICSE), 88.2% in 12th (ICSE) and 73 % in B.Tech. (Electronics & Communication engineering from U.P. Technical University) I have a work ex of 2.5 years now in 2 IT cos. (THBS, Subex) in Bangalore. I had also worked at onsite for 3 months at Orange HQ in UK But all of my work experience is in production support. Owing to this I have gud domain knowledge of Telecom OSS/BSS. I gave CAT in 2008 but scored only 92%le. This year I have lots of hope on the positive side. Is my profile OK for landing me calls from IIMs. I mean my work experience should be considered worthwhile??? My current co.(Subex) is a product based co. and it one of the best in telecom fraud management and revenue assurance. Will this add a plus in my profile?? My interest is in Marketing and finance but I am inlclined to work in Telecom sector after my MBA. Will my domain knowledge in telecom help me in these (marketing and finance) verticals.
You have ample of xperience to get a call from IIM. You have good academic record right from 10t to B tech. all this wud b ur plus point. I wud suggest u 2 also apply at MDI,SP Jain,Nirma,FMS,XLRI. all these B-schools accept cat scores to shorlist candidates for GD/PI.Except FMS and XLRI which have their own private exam.
Hello People , I am Swetha i am pursuing my PGDITM ...I am done with my second semester and now i am entering into my third sem where i need to choose a specialization ...I am really confused which one to choose from.... Financial management Information Technology management Operations Systems Retail Systems My background is Btech(Computer Science) ..So i am confused which subject to choose from.. Please suggest me ......
Puys, I have entered a dark and brooding state of mind, please help me get over it.
I will be giving CAT for the 3rd time this year. By the time I appear for my interviews I will have 3.5 yrs of experience (IT MNC- Telecom domain). My concern is my "overexposure" to a non-BFSI vertical and experience is going to mark me against the normative batch composition that is 2 yrs of exp post graduation. I have checked out the batch comps of institutes like IIFT and they have very few people with over 3+ yrs of experience.
I really cannot afford GMAT and want an honest answer as to whether I will stand a chance at admission into B Schools considering my "overexposure" to a field like IT services I have good extracurrs and decent acads. TIA.

Well to this question hardly ppl can suggest 😛 It has to come from you.. However you can think in following direction : Do accounts, maths and xl sheets fascinates you ? If yes take Finance.. this domain is said to have highest salaries but requires lot of efforts !! If you have any prior exp in IT ..given you an engineer , you will surely benefit if you take IT management and consulting. Operations.. leads to you a life in Production of stuffs and jobs related to goods and services..Retail Systems ..relate it to the industry Try to see in what job you will be better fit and can carry on in best possible way in future.. You have not mentioned but if anything related to GM : general management is there , go for it because it will provide you the flexibility of moving between various domains. Hope it helps !

I know a person who has done his engineering from IIT-delhi and then he did his PGDM in Finance from IIM- Lucknow. This person is now working as a research analyst in Equity research division of JP Morgan and doing great work. It really doesn't matter that u specialize in marketing or finance. At last after the first year when u r exposed to different specializations u would come know yourself in which area you are in terested to make your career. You can be adviced by many about Marketing/Finance specialization. But at last you have to make this decision as finally you r the decider of your career. So dont get puzzled by what people say just take up the specialization of ur interest.
Hey guys! I am in my final year in computer engineering. I am in a reputed engineering college in Mumbai. My college placements are going on right now. I am planning to take up a job for few years and gain some valuable experience before going for my MBA. I basically wanted to ask whether it is better to take up a job with a big IT firm like TCS, Infosys and Accenture or go with the smaller ones like Vistaar, Geodisc, etc. The big ones offer good packages and training but a slow growth rate. The small ones offer smaller packages comparatively but a faster growth rate. Also my work would be visible in these companies. (Consider the situation that I might get placed in any company of my choice) Which one would be better from an MBA in future perspective?

look man even i am also from an IT company... if u really want to do mba then go for a big company ..because in a big company there are so many processes to learn and understand....which would really help u as a manager 2..and incase ur write gmat then a big brand will really help you..as these b schools fancy a lot on these companies...but in case u want to get into technical and earn and grow more then small company is the perfect place for you..dude with a big company u ll get time to study for b school exams..but with small companies 1 weekend in a month u ll surely come to ur office ....i guess go for a big company
