I got placed in TCS just two days back ...Am in final year of B.tech...I want to know uptil when can i get my joining ...And also want to know what are the future prospects in TCS...career growth etc..And on an average till where the person can reach working 5 years down the line in TCS...
hello Friends,
I require your help in taking an important decision of my professional life. I want to do MBA in consultancy and then leverage my experience in IT/Telecom.
1. Where can I get the list of top 20 universities offering MBA in consultancy?
Dude ! There is nothing called MBA in consultancy. At max you can do a MBA in IT or MBA in strategy or a general management
2. Is there any benefit in terms of salary and work, if one does MBA from outside India as opposed to doing it from here?
Depends on where you want to work. If in India, no. If abroad, also no. But higher chance of getting a job abroad if you have done a MBA from US or the country where your looking for job. And salaries outside are more than India. So if your not specific about location, answer is yes.
hello Friends,
3. Does the foreign universities offer scholarship to MBA aspirants? I know for MS or PHD, they offer full schol.
No. Not the really good ones at least. Some of them in Europe/Japan/Australia may give. But likely to be lowly ranked and you may not get good job from there.
hello Friends,
4. Any suggestions about colleges I could look about. I am dependent 70% on scholarship and 30% on my own resources.
If scholarship is very important try International University of Japan. High chance of 100% scholarship. I think National University of Singapore and Asian Institute of Management give something. Better save money and do in ISB or IIM-A or C PGP-X
hello Friends,
Thanks for your time. Please do reply.
Your welcome

Answer is one can only guess. Nobody knows for sure. Because IT is an evolving industry. 10 years back you would have got a different answer to this question. 5 Years back the answer would have been different. Now the answer will be different. But definitely as the industry is maturing your growth prospects are on a downward trend

I am a B.Tech in IT currently working in Java/ J2EE for almost 3 years. I have been planning to do and MBA for sometime now but could not really get through because in previous year I had to go out side of test city just before the exams and this year I'm skeptical about my level of preparations because of being too much busy with work.(I never wanted to ignore the job at hand to prepare)
I would like some advice regarding the following matters.
1) Will it be of any use if I shift to ERP? I am good in my domain - Java/J2EE but I was thinking of moving to ERP specially if that will help me in my persuasion in MBA or later stage , even if that will mean I will get out of comfort zone and start over.
B) I was inclined towards marketing and finance but practically I don't have any experience in the same. I was wondering if I should stick to IT-Systems if I go for an MBA? If you guys can suggest me some books/ sources which will enable me to take an informed decision - whether I will be able to adopt to the new fields.
I understand this was a long post but any feedback/ suggestion will be immensely helpful.
Thanks and regards,
Andrew

May be a good idea. If you want to be in the operations/systems area no escaping ERPs. Better get started on a ERP better late than never

Experience not needed. You can start afresh as well.
Books won't help you so much. You should talk to people in the industry. What people do on field in a marketing job is much different from what you read in Kotler. Similarly in theory HR is a highly romanticized field. But most HR executives on ground do shit.

Some schools have 2 years GMAT validity, some 5. Depends on the school. Singapore is different, London is different. You can't generalize cost. You stay in a family accommodation in Paris, you are going to end up spending 20 Lakhs in a year. So you have to check up costs in individual institutes. If B-schools have hostels, it can be much cheaper.
Hi Puys,
I am a Bachelor in Mass Media graduate (from Mumbai) and i am interested in joining MICA for the PGDM(C) course. I completed my graduation last year with very good marks. I have already appeared for the CAT and am taking the GMAT in January 2nd week (MICA accepts GMAT scores).
I have been working with my dad in his ad agency for the last 1 year as an account executive and am planning to show it in my Resume too. I have also contributed in winning a couple of big accounts for him. To add to that, i double up as a copywriter as and when required. (also, i was one of the very few people from our batch who interned in Ogilvy & Mather,Mumbai and got job offers from them)
Last week i happened to meet a senior (from my school) who had done his MBA from SCMHRD and he told me that i won't get a call if i show 'working-with-my-dad' as experience. He added that if somehow, i get a call, i won't be taken seriously by the interview panel even if i have ads, presentations and of course personal experience to support my cause.
Trust me, i haven't been able to sleep peacefully since then. Was he right? if yes, then what do i do now? My heart beats for advertising and i can't imagine myself anywhere else but MICA.

dude every1 has his own perspective..i dont feel anything wrong if your supporting your dad in his ad agency...however still if you feel (and as per ur seniors perspective) then i would suggest highlight your other achivements in ur interviews...(O&M; internship, ur Very good marks, job offer etc. etc.)
on a different note i would suggest don't rely on just 1 school...it will hurt u deeply if u don't make it...keep your options open..have a look at other schools for advtg....
Hello Puys!!
I am planning to do MBA. But I am highly myopic.
Can anyone please tell whether companies recruiting MBAs have any limit for eyesight??

I don't think eyesight is a matter for most of the companies. It may matter for some, although I can't figure out which companies they could be. Just for the record, we have a guy in our batch who has a -11 eyesight, and he recently got placed in a well known company. Now don't ask which company, as I can't disclose right now..... policy issues
I finished my biotech ug this year2009. I did not join any job or any course. I was waiting to do CAT. But due to that technical problem by prometric i was not able to attend the exam. NOw i have got 94.88 percentile in mat. im gonna do XAT too. But i have very much lesser confidence on my would-be XAT performance. I hav not prepped so well.
Now what shall i do? Can i wait one more year to attend CAT and XAT. If yes what can i do in the mean time. I cant sit duck for two years.
Or else i shall apply with MAT marks? Im afrad i was not impressed much by MAT colleges, as they seem to be 2 tier or most of them are very much below standards.
Consider my ug in biotech along with this.
Hello guys, I'm a final yr engg student who has taken CAT this year & today got selected in CTS and INFOSYS both thru campus
recruitment. We'll have to choose one by tomorrow noon. I want to know which company I should join if I want to do MBA next in
view of a "deferred success" this year. Please (preferably experienced) people advise which company to join. The difference in
salaries is negligible. But the there is a service bond of 2.2L in Infy which is bothering me. Please also tell me about the
opprotunities of self-study(for CAT) in these 2 companies.
As far as I've gathered till now, pros of cons are as follows:
1. INFY reputation better than CTS
2. INFY salary slightly higher.
3. INFY training far better & admired by other companies.
4. Other companies take former INFY employees more readily.
4. CTS less workload (more opportunity for studies/mocks)
5. No bond in CTS
Please enlighten seniors!
Hi vandemataram,
I would suggest better dont take the job and sit & study for cat till u are 'successful'. As you have already decided that you are going to 'just' work for the sake of work. Please dont spoil someone elses' chances.
You are just worried on which company to take that will be easy to prepare for cat. This post will really pain someone from IT industry who has lost his job.
P.S: I am not from IT industry and havent lost my job yet.
GATE N CAT SIMULTANEOUSLY??!
heyaa guys...
u might be thinking ..oh comeon...go n decide first wht you wanna do...but dont you think most of us even in our 3rd yr are not sure of what they exactly wanna pursue...
as far as GATE prep is concerned...if you study properly right from day 1 of your engineering...conceptually...(afterall get sum benefit from your graduation as well..)why wud ya require a coaching for tht...
n as far as CAT is concerned...tht is sumthing out of engineering...so you can join as good coaching institute for tht...Study "Strategically n Smartly"![]()
dont u think thts a proper approach to everything...good CAT n GATE percentile...so tht at the end when you really realize tht its technical or management you wanna chose as your life ambition ...you dont have to regret...
plus you wud be having a good acads score at engineering...tht wud help u in GATE ...plus CAT...(in IIMs acads matter alot!)
Maybe it sounds impractical to few...but wht do ya say..??
plz reply...
i didnt chose a diff thread coz i hv this fear of moderators deleting the thread..
tell me if this topic is worth a new thread..

I see some sense in what you're saying here but I don't think many people follow this. Having said this, I had actually taken GATE in my final year of engg. and did manage 95.xx %ile. Although I wouldn't have got any IIT with this score, still I decided to enquire a bit about the life of a guy doing M.Tech, post M.Tech job etc etc. Didn't feel very excited about it. Then I decided to go for the job in which I got placed in my 3rd year, worked there for 1.5 yr and then took a couple of shots at CAT and got to where I'm right now.
Looking back, I can say for sure that I couldn't have stuck to a hardcore technical line, the same thing I thought back then as well. Whether management would suit me or not..... well, I feel this way right now. I hope I feel the same way a few years down the line as well :)
Coming to the actual question, many people don't really think in terms of GATE and CAT, they think in terms of job prospects. If they get a good well paying job straight out of college, and they even like the work, chances are that most of the people won't go for higher studies. But that's hardly the way things work, so we have people thinking of these options, mostly to get away from a torrid job. Of course, I don't deny the fact that there are indeed some people who actually take these exams just because they want to further their knowledge, but unfortunately, the truth is that this number is pretty low.
Agreed that in the 3rd year of engg., most people are not sure whether they are more suited to a technical line or a functional line and as you say, the more sane thing to do would be to prepare for both the exams and take them, and then decide which to go for. However, atleast in my case, I thought about these one at a time. When I decided to take GATE, I didn't even think about CAT, or any functional roles etc. I just took it, and later decided that I may not be able to do very well in this field. Later when I started preparing for CAT, it was just that and nothing else.
So I guess this is what the thinking process of most people is like. People normally think one at a time (of course, discounting the exceptions). Practical or not?? I don't really know about it. Although I said that it's the more sane choice, that to do well in both the exams and then choose, but whether one would be able to give his best in both the exams at the same time...... well, I have my doubts on this one. The two exams are poles apart, there's nothing in common. For GATE, you need a sound technical knowledge of whichever field you're appearing for, whereas for CAT, it's more to do with common sense. Some might be able to prepare for both the exams simultaneously but most wouldn't be able to do so.
hey..thnx for your reply.. 😃
Hi Puys,
I had done my graduation in Mech engg and working in CTS for the past 2 years. I want to do MBA(finance). I am not willing to continue in IT field because i couldn't concentrate on MBA exams due to lot of stress and hectic work in my proj.Personally i dont like IT.
So if i go to public sector(Manufacturing sector like BHEL,SAIL etc), will it be a negative point for me to do MBA in FINANCE and to get job on finance role??
Will Public sector hinders my chances of getting MBA Seat/good placement??
Could u plz someone suggest which field is better to continue...
