i have stayed in Doha, Qatar since childhood and went to BIT for my graduation.
i have 3 job offers as of now....and i would like help in deciding which one should i opt for keeping the ISB goal in mind....
1.Asst. IT supervisor...Qatar Airways.initial pay INR 35000...after 4 months of probation....INR 50000
2.Asst. network engineer...Cisco systems...INR 35000 for one year then subject to renewal
3.Business Process Services Trainee,Risk Advisory Services,KPMG qatar.....INR 30000...subjected to increase after one year when they give me the position of an assosiate....
i have mentioned the 3 jobs with their respective remuneration.

since your query is specific to what ISB considers...u can post ur query in the ISB thread...there the ISB seniors will be able to give you more specific guidance than general suggestion in this forum

I've been confused if ever i try for sm job wat kind will fetch me sm gud pts in gd/pi does a job in a bank help or may be as an admin or even as a tech support plss any help wud b gr8
cheers
not all IIMs take into consideration the acads..like say IIM C......also any job will be an added advantage cz jus like there is weightage on acads similarly there is weightage on work ex..if u feel ur acads r not that good u can build on wrk ex..also u may wrk nw n do executive mba frm IIMs after 5 yrs of wrk ex...bank job is good...but i dnt think tech support(if u mean call centre) will help ur profile in any way

hello....
well this's my first thread! hop u ol help me oud!
m currently doin my BBA(IT) but i had a year down the last year due 2 som reasons in my second year! so can that be a hindrance of gettin in a reputed B-school for MBA(finance) or MBA(IT)? what can i rilly du 2 mak up 4 it? what certifications or additions can i work upon? du help m rilly tensed.....
THNX
U need to explain them y u had that gap of a year..it depends hw u can convince them..u may come up with health related or family issues..
preyas217 Sayswell thats tru! thx 4 the advise but is there anythin which u kno i can juz add up 2 mah profile so that this doesnt becom a hurdle on my way! hav workd rilly hard 4 my CAT! dun wanna let it go bad! nd i'v been a frst class student thru out! it'l b rilly kind if u can guide me! 😃 thnk u!
see..if u r taking CAT 09 then there is nt much time left..nw u shud concentrate on ur preps n not on these facts...since u r a BBA...u can do sme certificate course on finance or smething but at this stage that wnt help much..cz if d course is of 3-4 months u wnt b able to complete it b4 d GD/PI...so it wnt help u in ur problem of a gap..better try to explain d gap wid sme health reasons
preyas217 Saysolryyt! heyy thanx a lot! and if i go 4 CAT '10 den i must go 4 som certifications and work experienc! right? if u can suggest me with som nice certifications it'l b very helpful...... thank u soo much :)
if u go for CAT 2010 then i wud say go for wrk ex..cz that carries weightage which certis dnt...u can hv certis to enhance ur profile but that does nt hv specific weightage....n for certis it depends on ur choice..it shud nt be merely done keeping in mind MBA ..rather it shud b dne depeding on wt u like
Hi guys,
I am looking for some guidance regarding the job change from IT to some other non technical fields (like Banking/finance, Cnsulting or some other area) from people who have changed the industry after long experience of 7-8 years or more, specially from those who have done MBA and changed the industry.
Let me tell little more about myself. I am a BE grad & working in IT very successfully since last 8 years for major IT companies like Infosys, TCS & Cognizant. Even though I am very much successful in my career but this long journey with the technical stuffs I have got bored now & looking for better career prospects in some area other than technical. Hence I am thinking to switch from IT to some other line like Banking/finance, Consulting or some other non technical line. I am thinking to do an MBA from some very reputed institute either in India or outside India, but have many questions in my mind which are hindering me to go for this. I have following queries in this regard & looking forward to get some good answers for these .
1) As I am already having 7+ years of IT experience & currently in quite senior position in my company, if I do a MBA now, will that be at all beneficial for me?
2) Will 1 year MBA help me to change my line of work from IT to finance or some other lines? Say I do MBA in finance from ISB, is it at all practically possible that I can get a job from some world leading banker. MBA institutes says like that but logically is it at all possible. Because I have no pre MBA finance experience, just in 1 year how can I be expert in finance that leading bankers will recruit me?
3) What kind of job people get having the background like me after doing MBA say in finance from the institutes like ISB or SP Jain or IIM(1 year course)?
4) Since I am a family man & also having a stable decent job with good background, how much possibilities are there that after MBA I can not have good job. Also is there any possibility that after MBA my income goes down?
5) MBA involves an investment of a big amount of money, so how much risk is involved that return of my investment is 0 or -ve.
6) If I do MBA from outside India, then what is the possibility that I can return back to India with some decent job. Actually I want to finally settle in India only.
7) If I sit for GMAT, for my profile to get admitted in some good B schools, what should be the fair score?
I know I am throwing so many questions together, but if someone can please help me on the above questions I would be very much thankful.
I know pagalguy is such a pagal that it will go through all my lengthy questions & will help me to give some positive directions to my career.
Thanks,
Kaustav
Hi PuYs !!
Here's a brief of my acads performance.
10th 92%
12th 82%
BE 60% :banghead:
I was willing to take admn into any good b school this year...
But now planning to take a job after my engineering. With about 15 months work ex i'm planning to try again.
I'm only aiming for IIM A,B,C or FMS
So guys tell me my realistic chances of getting into one of these coveted B-Schools.
And I'm not just talking about just a call but converted call![]()
What do I need and %ile I should be aiming for...
for IIM B the cut off is low as they giv more weightage to profile n wrk ex...for A n C ur porile is good but irrespective of that u got to score 99.xx at least to confirm a call...n then hw u convert it all depends on hw u convince them:cheers:
Thanks for the info,,
One more doubt
After the call, do iim's take acads into account ?
if u check the sites of the various IIMs u will find they hv fixed weightage for marks in every range..as welll some weightage for wrk ex.... the weightage difers from 1 IIM to another and also from 1 yr to another..there is nothing fixed......and all this together along wid ur performance in GD/PI is evaluated to get an aggregate and one converts depending on d aggregate....even the weightage for GD n PI varies frm place to place....for details u can check d IIM sites
Hi guys, I completed my MCA last year and joined a top IT services company. But, I am not much impressed with the kind of role and work. Also, at this pace I don't see much growth for myself as a professional in this field. So now I am seriously thinking of pursuing a career in management field and then get back to an IT company as a manager. I want to know that, is MBA after MCA, a good option ? Also, will I be able to have better career opportunities than what I have right now ? Guys, an early reply will be of great help.
Thanks anyways
Hey Guys,
I am currently working in a IT security company in Bangalore. But I wanna give my best shot for CAT this time and I wanna leave the job currently so that I concentrate on my management entrance exams.I have another offer with TCS due around December/January with the option of deferral for a month.Could you please enumerate the pros and cons of such a thing? It has been 3 months since I have started to work in this company. And even if i dont get any experience certificate.Does it matter if I have a void for 6 months in my profile??(I have plans of saying that I have done a IT security certification course, was preparing for CAT simultaneously and was indulged in a NGO and also I ve always dreamt of joining TCS)Is this a valid explaination??Can someone enumerate the risks, the pros and cons??I will have to take a decision by 2 days!!!So please helppp!!!:(:(
I would suggest that do not leave your job for CAT. The job gives you an inner sense of confidence to face interview. Moreover, CAT preparation does not require a dedicated effort ala JEE or some other engg entrances. You can easily devote 3-4 hour and experience will give you an added advantage in the interview.
Hi Puys,
I am a Btech from NIT Alld (Prod & Ind Engg.) and joined an automobile company 4 months back.
My career plan is to go for MBA in Operations after 2 yrs of work ex. and I did my btech proj on ERP Software development.
Is it good to opt for Management Information System as dept in company. Would this help me in future.
Pl advice.
I have finished my UG now and i want some time to be prepared to face CAT
. Im gonna lay off for an year or so
. In that mean time what can i study that would come in handy for me later,
you know, like professional courses icwa or any other course. It would be awful waste to do nothing for an year.
By the way i want to add that my ug is B.Sc., zoology. would that be any problem for doing mba? would they take it as a negative in interview ?
