Plz guys help me out!!My academic qualifications are:

10th-85.2%(C.B.S.E)
12th-70.8%(C.B.S.E)
B.Tech- 60.4%(Electronics and Communication) from Greater Noida Institute Of Technology.


I have completed my B.Tech in june 2011 in a duration of 5 years unfortunately due to a year back and am currently unemployed. I am planning to appear for CAT' 12. If I score a gud percentile in the range of 95%ile and above,will I get calls from top colleges which also includes non-iims??

Hello puys
my profile : 10th year 2004 75%; 12th year 2007 (in 2006 was not allowed to seat in board exam as my attendance was below 75%) 71% both from CBSE board.
In my school years I was completely unaware of the importance of career....result? Didnt appear for any entrance exam except AIEEE..got a lousy 1.5Lakh AIR....couldnt get admission to any decent college...thats when reality struck!!

Promised myself... wherever I get admitted I would be the very best there..

Got admitted to lovely professional university in BTech ECE...

kept my promise...topped university in first sem....

and I managed to maintain that zeal for 4 years...now I have completed my grad..with 9.05 CGPA ...got a campus placement...and now working in Hewitt associates as a SCS for the past 3 months...

I love kids...want to do some good for the poor and underprivileged (as my life itself was not a bed of roses; I have spent days when I had to skip a meal to buy myself a notebook). So joined an NGO...I teach basic computers to under 10 kids from slums..on saturdays...

Life is good...

But the hunger is still there...I want a rapid growth in my career...an MBA seems to be the option...

now for the queries..
1. does my low %age and a year missed in school affect my b-school dream? if yes then how much...can I at-least think of top 15 b-schools in india?

2. I am thinking about cat 2012...so i have reasonable amount of time...i believe the prep for mba entrance shud be such that it makes you a better person at the end of the day...so I would like to know if there's anything (A reading habit, meditation ..anything you can think of) ,any strategy..which u guys suggest which would contribute towards my development in view of an MBA?

3. increase in salary nd career growth is the reason i want to do an mba...but i would like to fall in love with mba (the prep..during mba nd post mba..."all i wanted to say about cat" made me fall in love with preps)..can u suggest anything for the "during mba" and "post Mba" part?

this year will b my second attempt.. now i decided on staying back in kota for my MBA prep while teaching at TIME center here.. mainly because i thot gng fr a job search would b an expensive investment.. but now am getting a job offer in JAIPUR here, n ive to join the company frm next week itself.. the only problem- the offer is less, around 10k per month

ive no problem wid tht.. all i want is my profile to b good enough for the top 15 clgs n my career after tht
so pls suggest wat wud b d best fr me

1) continuing teaching at TIME.. problem- won't be industry work-ex

2) go to jaipur n join d company.. my concern is will the low package affect my chances fr top b schools.. or the package that ill get after my mba.. aisa toh nahi ki iimc se mba kr lia fir b package nahi milega achcha :splat:

I am good in quant, above average in LR and average in English and DI.
But the problem is in any mock test SIMCAT or test funda my percentile
is very low.I belive the main problems are
1.Exam Pressure
2.Speed is not accurate
3.Doing some silly mistakes like calculation mistake
4.Some bad experiances or problems bothering me so unable to concentarte 100% on study and in exam also.

CAT 2011 is very important for me because my personal life is also dependent on it.

I am not very hard working guy but last 2-3 months i am doing hard work and i cant continue for CAT.

I am seeking advice with you guys what should i do to overcome with above problems.I am trying meditation and all techniques also.

I would suggest you to either go for CTS or Accenture.
Tho Infy is a good company too but for the initial 10months u are gruelled like anything n i don think that wud leave u much time for studies...
And out of accenture and CTS my personal opinion goes in favour of CTS.
See when u are taking up a job the basic things u expect is-
1> Good career growth
2> Work-Life balance..(thts wher ur studies come in)
3> The package ofcourse..(obviously who doesn't want that!)
And I think CTS would be a good option keeping in mind ll of the above.

First of all I would congratulate u for your great dedication and ur will to keep fighting even while u are a bit disturbed with the surroundings.
I can understand the situation u r going thru bcz i too have been thru something like this in the past,, when ur personal life is all gloomy and sad and when u know that the only way out of problems is to do well frm the career point of view..But i would just suggest u to move on from what so ever is troubling u bcz u have a great future awaiting ur way.
These problems & conditions would seem nothing infront of the happiness that u get after u get a good percentile in CAT.
I've seen people come up frm really bad times in life and devote themselves for doing something really good in their career and believe me if thay can & if I can..YOU SURELY CAN.
You dont need to do anything except just have faith in your abilities and remember the value of a good percentile in CAT for your life and your loved ones.
Just imagine wat life wud be after it & keep fighting..you'll definately will.
And dont let all the ffice pressure bog u down.. (I can understand me being frm an IT background too)...Just aim high & do it.

buddy.......to be frank it all depends on the kind of project you get into......so rather than thinking about the project pressure make up your mind to prepare for CAT whatever it takes...this kind of mindset will make you much stronger..........but again..this is just my opinion........All the best !!

Well im not too sure if im the philanthropic type but i guess i can still take a chance and go ahead!

First things first...
I salute people who despite of not doin well in early parts of life, gather up the courage and do wonders for themselves instead of brooding over the past so hats off to you.

Dont worry, if u do get a really good percntile in CAT it would over-shadow the one year u had to drop between ur 11th & 12th.
And belive you me,, they do respect people who get up and do something for themselves despite adverse situations.
So just work hard, put in as much as u can, & with a good percentile "you just name the colg, and its yours" :D

The best strategy for preparing for CAT is to be happy with what you are doing.
No doubt (and whether people admit or not) the big motivation behind studying for CAT is all the moolah that follows by default...so firstly know what u are doing & why u r doing it.
Just tell yourself why its important for u, why it shud be a part of life.
And once you know the value & you get it into your system nothing in the world can stop you.
Even hours of study won't tire you if u love what u are doing and have a strong reason for doing that. I myself am not very experienced but having applied this in my own life I can suggest u a bit on this.
According to me motivation & dedication to achieve something makes u fall in love with the process of achieving it & vice-versa the the love for something encourages you to work with more dedication.
And believe me its a never-ending cylce..once u r into it you wont even know how things changed..for the better ofcourse! :D

So All the Very Best....Just love what u do & know why you love it!!

2. Further if so, in which field of specialization wrt to my background?

Name : Ram Garg
Age : 29
Qualification : B.A. ( English literature, Geography, Public Administration)-- 71%( 2003 pass out)

1. After my graduation, I had been preparing for the Civil services Exam (IAS) conducted by UPSC.
2. I gave 4 attempts and reached till the Interview stage twice but unfortunately could not make it to the final list.
( Out of more than 3 lacs students sitting in the prelims stage only 1500 are selected to appear for interview)
3. But I cleared the exam of Customs and Central Excise Inspector in 2009 (Ministry of Finance,Govt. of India) and presently working as one.
4. My Job profile includes Handling Paper-work relating to Export and Import of Cargo, inspection of cargo, checking for any duty evasion& Misreporting of revenue,
Determination of duty, giving Port clearance, Handling Shipping Bill, Bill of Import, Import manifest, Export Manifest.
My salary at present is 28000/-
5. Gave CAT last year, my percentile was 96 but i hadn't applied for any college.

You can advice your friend to go in for CAT if he is really interested in the manegerial kind of work and incase he does get a good percentile in CAT he can consider it as an option.
However he already belongs to really good govt. department and what can be better than a govt job with a cool life and as far as the packege is concerned i guess they have graet many departmental exams which he can go for and aim at a better position within the organization because quitting job that too a govt. one wont be very easy for a lot of us!

i m here in my hometown doing nothing just waiting for my joining i talked to my frnds about this some of them are suggesting me to to blore or delhi to
try for other jobs as there is a bond of 2 years wid tech m....what should i do?
my aimbition is to go for mba thru CAT but before that i want to gain some experience....
please do suggest the best possible solution...

I know how frustrating it can be doing nothing n just waiting for ur joining.
And as far as tech mahindra is concern u wud get ur joining by dec-jan i guess. So its a good time for u to brush up ur skills for CAT n go for it.
U can also join some course or take up some technical certification..
The major companies havent started their off-campuses yet n i wud not suggest u to go for some small company with tech m in hand. So juts have patience, ul get ur joining soon!!

I am working in an IT company - Canada based firm for the past two years. Getting a decent package of around 3.8 lacks per annum. Recently i applied for a job @ another firm and got it with a revised pack of 5 lacks/annum.

Cat 2011 Preps:
I have been preparing for CAT 2011 for around 6-7 months under the guidance of an IIM alumini. As of now i am GOOD with quants and weak in english and DI. Until July my preps were at a faster pace but suddenly i got a severe health problem which hampered my preps for a month and then my sister's marriage extended another month of NIL perps. I have not taken a mock test till date and i have been very low on confidence. I got my 5 Lacks offer last week.

Questions:
1.What is want to know is given 2 months to go for CAT , assuming i toil hard,
will i be able to get a good score??

2. Lets face it guyz ! Every one i know have SALARY as a reason for pursuing MBA. I fell if i get around 90 percentile, after graduating from a B school will i get a good salary ?(at least greater than what i would i have got by continuing my JOB).

3. If i dont care about the score(if its low) in cat 2011, will it make any sense to study for another year and take cat 2012 with 3 years exp in IT industry?

4. One of my senior Proj. manager said it would be better to work in IT for 5 years and get a executive MBA from any reputed institutions??? Is that a good option???

@Karthik: U r going to give ur exams, please go ahead and give them. Take up the job if u dont want to miss out on the offer, anyway ur college (if u get a good percentile and the school u want) will start only by July 2012.

An MBA is more about adding onto your skills and network rather than just a placement cell. If you feel there is no need for u now to enhance ur skills and widen ur network, dont do an MBA. When u feel ur have worked enough and ur growth is stunned then u can opt for a Masters/MBA, that would be a more appropriate time.
