software firm and regret later.
I prepared for MBA in my final year but as i dint get
my coveted colleges so now going for the job.Well,

2-3 years of experience.
Now,the important Q for which all this RAMKAHANI...

Will my experience in Banking be relevant and serve any
purpose in my future MBA endeavour.
Will it be some negative points for me as being an IT guy
I chose banking...(but actuyally that's keeping in mind my

If you are talking about adding corporate experience, then yes. If you are talking about specialisation, then may or may not.

You are joining a bank as IT officer. I understand IT means Information Technology. You must have checked the qualification needed for the post and it surely would have been engineering degree in IT, CS, etc. When a company has a requirement of engineering graduates, then how can someone else blame you that you made a wrong decision. Your decision is absolutely correct.

Hello All,
I am thinking of doing an MBA next year and would like to get your opinions on my profile and also suggestions on should i go for 2yrs full time MBA or 1 Yr full time exec MBA.

Class 10th: 74.8% (CBSE board, Javahar Navodaya Vidyalaya)
Class 12th: 80.17% (Nasik Board, Maharashtra)
BE Comp : 60.5% (Aggregate, Completed in 4 years, but had a couple of backlogs in 2nd and 3rd year)

Workex - in software industry and all in BFSI domain:
1. Over 6.2 yrs with a small company

  1. Grown from a software developer to managing multiple projects
  2. Have 1 yr international / onsite expsoure
  3. Can get good recommendations from the owners of the company
  4. Actively involved in other activities in the company like recruitment, mentoring people etc.

2. Joined Cognizant this month (Aug 2011)

No significant social activities.

Due to the exposure to finance domain I got interested in finance and hence thinking of pursuing MBA in finance. Would like to move away from the technology field and work directly in the financial institutes or domain expert / business analyst (less preferable).

Would like to get your opinions on the profile and which colleges should I try for?

Also, which course should I try for 2yr MBA or 1 Yr exec MBA?

for completion of degree,i have only 6 dmc out of 8 and result r awaited.i have no work experience can i fill form of xat, fms.plz guide

Dude, if you have it in you, no one can stop you.

I have had 32 months of exp in IT in 3 different companies .... still getting good calls from good companies.
Even I have great brands in my CV. So if you are good enough to convince people in interviews don't worry.

Also, Accenture is a great place to work in and with your BSc. degree you are getting something which not many BSc people get.... the chance to work for a big company at a very competitive CTC.

Just join it

Thanks interceptor16(don't know ur name), I have decided to join. I'll think of everything once i will join Accenture. anyways thanks a lot.

Frnd...what is making you leave defence forces.I understand it depends on choice but u will be surprised to know that ppl after doing MBA from clgs
such as symbi etc. nd having offer in the range of 8-10 lacs r also trying
for various defence entries as long as their age permits...
Moving beyond examples nd coming to ur case...As far as i know that ppl
in defence can opt for an MBA and take study leave and also alongwith
salary for those 2 years and education loan at subsidised rates. You can
enquire about it from them.As Armed forces always encourage ppl to
pursue higher studies...
Also,in my opinion it wont be a wise decision to throw away 10 lacs to break
the bond and then invest more than 10+ lacs for doing an MBA.Also, ask urself
clearly as to why do u want to do an MBA.You can opt for retirement after 20 yrs. of service in defence...as far as i know...and then ur MBA degree will come in handy...defence forces experience is well taken by industry and u can
get handsome packages...So,these r the pros and cons...
But,In my opinion leaving the defence forces for an MBA is simply not worth it yaar...U have a well settled job...excellent perks...But,all i can say is the
Final decision always rests with you and ur ambitions...

hope it helps you,

cheers

Rather than checking syllabus, you should check your interest first. There are many specialisations you can choose from. Give some pointers towards your interests so that people may help you. You can go for HR, Marketing, Operations but all this will depend on your interests.

P.S.:-Your username and MBA not from reputed college will not help.

Your profile is fine. You can go for either of the courses. Since you are planning to make a career switch, 2 year course would be good but you can go for 1 year course as well. There are many colleges that conduct 1 year courses like many of the Exec programs in IIMs, ISB, SP Jain, Great Lakes, etc.

Thanks palak

The chocie i have to make it . i am facing problem in selecting the specilisation it is beacaue of my internship period were i was pushed into operations department and learned the process of the renowed Deutsche bank. instead of getting insight about finance or marketing (i approach them earlier). so i develop a BRD and flowchart of introduction of new system for them instead of learning my interest and evaluating myself in marketing or in finance... and i knw wat all subject finance ppl learn tht is portfolio management i learned through siting few finance classes with seniors, derivatives , forex but all this is not finding me useful.
I m tired becasue of the internship my mind got saturated and demanding sitting wrk rather than field wrk.

I apparch ths bank for front end in to equity market desk as i wll get the insight bout the finance plus marketing but was thrown in operations department .. .so do let me knw the interest area.

What I can understand from your interests is that you will be more suitable for jobs in Communication Management. You are not interested in sales but if you choose Finance, then it is quite possible that you end up doing sales. If you like Communication, Public Relations, then go for Marketing. Also, what is important is that your written and spoken English should be good for this (I am not sure about this from your post). If you can work on it, then after MBA (Marketing) you may look for job in Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Conference Production, etc. If you need more details, then feel free to PM.

If you have interest in Marketing then you may go for any Public Relation firms like Perfect Relations, Text 100, 20:20 MSL, Adfactors, Genesis, etc. If you have good Communication Skills - written as well as spoken (English), then you may try your luck in Conference Production as well. You may also try for jobs in Advertising field as well.

If you have interest in HR, then you may try for similar roles as per your interest in Recruitment, Training, etc.

Depending on your age, you can also apply to various PSUs conducting exams for posts in their HR or Marketing departments as well.

Yes...exactly mate...we make mistakes at different junctures
of our life...but i believe there is rarely a point of no return...
If u r so sure that defence is not ur cup of tea...then,go ahead
wid ur decision..But be sure about the field or place u r going
to enter...ignoring the financial catastrophe u will have to go
thru..Do make sure that u don't leave any scope for regrets in
future...All I can say at last but not the least is...All the best
in whatever u r going to do...
