Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

For the perception of the society part, I can be the good person to tell you because I am not the part of a Bank and so I am part of the society and you want to know the respect for job by society.

So, the answer is society respects anyone who earns his bread and butter. Ours is a socialist country, so anyone who works should have the right to eat. So, if you work and earn to eat then you are respected. Coming to the bank job, they are very much respected. Why do you think that society would not respect the Bankers?

Thanks for the useful info.

Can you please point me where I said society does not respect a bank employee? If you assumed, that my question intended to message the same, we have a mis-understanding here. I did not. I do respect everyone. I wanted to hear it from a bank employee how he feels.
Hi,

If you are working in a bank, can you please help post your exp so far in your work.

Wish to know about...
How you feel in general?
Respect for job by society?
What is your daily routine?
Present salary?
Experience in bank?
Is it hard to take 2day leaves every month?
Please help.

Ask specific queries. Ask facts. Ur questions were too vague(& somewat wierd).
No conclusions can be drawn by asking such type of questions.
I mean a PSU bank employee can say I feel great as my job is safe till 60.
At the same time , another employee can also say bank job is pathetic as it offers neglible growth.

True ... we all evaluate things differently, but if to the same question, many people say I am not happy bluntly, I would find it easy to understand.

And I do ask spec questions when I find it a reqmt.
My background
10th - 79%
12th - 75%
T.Y.Bcom - 70%
I have done my B.Com from Mumbai University via correspondence so could anyone help me out as to which colleges i could apply for in. Please help me out. as i got to know many colleges do not accept I.D.E graduates. Thanks in advance. Am i eligible for CET?? Please help me out ASAP!!

Most of the colleges will only accept Full time course participants. Many colleges except Distance Learning bachelors but if they have some prior experience. You will need to search it. Prepare a list of colleges and exams where you want to apply and go to their websites, contact their admin office and find out.

Hello Puys!

I had a simple question .. would be glad if someone answered.

What is the ratio of freshers to people with work ex on top 20 B Schools ? Ofc it'll vary from college to college but still then...

I don't know why i got this feeling that the IIMs recruit more people (like 70% or so) with 2 years workex or more and less freshers. Tried searching around in vain ... anybody willing to enlighten me ?

Thanks for the useful info.

livelife - Please live life. Do you want to join a bank? If yes, then go ahead and join one. Bankers are respected by society and the bankers themselves feel so. My family is of bankers and I know it. There are situations when you are not happy with your job, but then it happens with every job and thing. You are sometime not happy with your personal life as well. So, the thing is it doesn't matters. If you are interested in a bank job then go ahead. You should have interest in the field and everything else would be fine.

fellow puys,

i am a 2010 btech pass out. currently i am working with a reputed IT firm. i have recently completed 1 year with the organisation. i recently found a new job with mcafee as financial analyst, which is perfect for me as i intend to go for MBA in finance only..the problem is that i am under a bonded relation with the IT firm for next 6 months and i would have to pay Rs 1,00,000 if i break the bond and if i wish to acquire the relieving certificate.

i want to know whether MBA institues (iims, xlri, fms, iitb, iitd, mdi gurgaon, nitie) are stringent regarding the relieving certificate as i have all my 12 pay slips, my offer letter with me.

waiting for replies...

thanks,
vaibsss

Here m with another common but decade long query !!

MS or MBA ??;)

This query is actually for a friend/colleague of mine who is in a similar position & background as of me. Please find my background details below:
My Background!!

A B.E(Comp Science) student has 4 options of future studies ( I know there are more but for most of them it is 4:shocked:)

-M.Tech ---- People say ..if not IIT's , NIT's...not much useful doing M.tech when you are already in a job earning 25k pm as a SE..and getting into one of those is comparatively difficult.(less no. of seats)
-MBA abroad(GMAT)-- Costly( around 40 lakhs in top colleges in UK)

My query boils down to 2 things:
-M.S (GRE)
-MBA in India

I have heard Seniors saying that when choosing your career listen to your heart, you have to have a goal..blah..blah n all..I have seen here in PG that people say ..rite from the start they wanted to do MBA..But, also i guess there are many people..who dont know what they want to be..they just get pushed as when the situation arises...just like me & my frend;)

I have decided to MBA and have stuck to it!! But, my friend is in a dillemma to choose between MBA or MS.

I have listed some pro's and cons of both keeping in mind our background and nature:

MS
Pros:

- We would be continuing in "own" field..ie.CS/Engg.
- abroad degree---More Visibilty, global exposure, higher pay Pack, Reputed firms, more oppurtunity
- Technical depth, more practical way of studying, research oriented..etc etc
Cons:
- We dont have much visibility of the colleges outside India unless we score 1400+ in GRE. For eg: The Tri-valley scandal still brings shiver down my spine -Normally, it would take around 25-30 lakhs for a degree:shocked:

MBA in India
Pros:

- Wider prospect, managerial Role, greater pay package, etc etc..
- can get a Job n role as that of a employee having a MS degree.
(for Eg: IT Consultant in pWc or E&Y;, i have seen people with a MBA degree in symbi and a MS guy having the same post (IT Consultant).)
Cons
- Would not be in "OUR" field ( technical)
- some quotes--"you slog up for 4 years in Engg...n then doing MBA...how does that makes sense" is one of the common lines by "Elders".
- getting into Top 30 colls comparatively difficult as compared to acquiring a MS seat.
- and the list goes on..

So, Puys... I want you all to advise my friend on this.:splat:
Please share some links if you have any, regarding the dillemma:shocked: (MBA or MS)

P.S I Don know why some of the GRE/MS threads have been locked. So ]posting this here..:(

Hi everyone,

I am from an NIT,fourth year.. plan to give cat'11.
Most of the people from engineering backgrounds are good in quant, but i hav a weird issue so need whateva help can get.
I have joined PT.. my last mock cat scores
VA-45(98+ %ile)
Di- 43(98+ %ile)
but quant...
6(some 28 %ile)!!!

And its not just this test, this has been the trend in most of my scores.
about my prep, i never really studied till the frst few mocks.. but after my 'mind blowing' performance in quant, i studied quant from my pt material.. m done with most of the basics(pt material is in two parts, vital and regular.. so i hav finished my vital material for quant and now m doing the regular material). I really dn undertstand whats the reason for my such poor scores in quant.. and m worried like hell, having thots like giving up on cat all together :-(:-(
I dn understand this.. cz i hav always been good at maths.. 100/100 in 10th, 95 in 12th cleared aieee etc.
also its not like i m not giving time to quant in the test..i start with VA, finish it in 35-45 mins, then move to di.again finish it in around 40 mins and giv the rest of time to quant, but somehow i feel i cant solve even 1 questn 😞 and end up attempting just 5-6 questns..
if any1 has any suggestions plz reply here..cz if i say this is killing me ..m not exaggerating.

P.S.- i searched the forums and found this to be the right thread to post my issue, if m not sspd 2 post it here.. plz let me knw

Hi,
Please excuse if am not posting in right place...

I joined btech in 2003-07 batch...but due to some personal issues didnt completed final year....joined a bpo in 2007...and then completed my btech in 2009.
Overall i have nearly 4 years experiance..(2yrs bpo..2yrs in software development)...
Am doing good in mockCats...but doing btech in 6 years in place of 4 years will it hamper my chances of getting good colleges?...and my exp in bpo would be counted?

Please reply soon....thanks in advance..

"Men you have guts to go back and complete your degree." So, don't worry. Make sure that your story should give the above impression. Rest is fine if you score super-well in CAT.

Puys

I am in a very sticky situation right now and need help....

I was working in an IT MNC for the last 14 months but i wanted to pursue higher studies so i sat for the entrance exam for the course of my choice and cleared it.
The result was declared on the 12th July. The very next day i tendered my resignation to my HR.The HR informed me that i'd have to raise a request on the company's internal portal. But i made some mistakes in raising the request due to which the process never got initiated.

So i repeated the process again and my HR says it could take up to 10 days starting today.

Now the University says i have to produce a relieving letter or some other proof of having quit the job before the 16th August failing which my admission stands cancelled.

Please help me out about what i should do?Is there any other document that i could possibly submit that would stand at the university(it's a Central Govt. University).
Or could the company possibly issue some other document that could substitute for a formal relieving letter in the interim...

Please help me out.im in dire straits here.Just a delay of 1 odd day could cost me a whole year and i'd be left without a job..

Thanx in advance...

What I would do

0. Pray to God.
1. Send official mail to both saying the situation. (email and reg post)
2. Directly mail the senior most hr and explain the situation.
3. Request your immediate HR
4. If you have sent a resignation letter sometime, please use that date.

Puys,

I have just completed my graduation. Back in college I always wanted a shot at CAT after a year or 18 months of work experience i.e CAT 2012. But somehow people advice me to give a shot at CAT 2011 just to get a feel of the exam. And i haven't started preparation. Infact i haven't joined any test series forget any coaching centre. Mentally, I want a shot at CAT 2012. Will get some good experience in IT to my credit. I do not want to waste an attempt or shatter my confidence. I have slowly started my preparations. My mind juggles between 11 and 12 . What should I do? Pls help

One cant be so weak to get shattered by a rehearsal for the main game.
Take 2011 ... prepare for it ... join AIMCATs .This will eventually help u for 2012. The more u fail now( i.e.after preparation) the better u will become for 2012 CAT.

Hi all,
I am having close to 3 yrs experience as a developer and am going to give CAT this year. I am planning to stay in IT field itself post MBA. I have heard/read that B schools have a hard time in placing ppl having more than 3.5 yrs experience. Is it true for ppl who are interested in joining the same industry post MBA?? Seniors please advice...
