Hi ppl . I m joining TCS this year . I want to pursue MBA but due to some problems cant do it anytime soon . Ll be joining after 4-5 years i guess . M aiming for the top 20 colleges. I want to go for Consulting or IT sector after MBA . I had following doubts :

1) I wanted to know about the type of profiles offered by IT companies at IIM's ? I have heard that its difficult for 3+ yr work ex ppl in IT to get good profiles . Is it true ?

2) Moreover what about lateral placements at IIM's ? Whats the eligibilty ? Can someone tell me about the compensation packages at IIM's for laterals for few good companies ? And if an experienced person doesnt get a lateral offer , ll it be like starting again as fresher for him ?

3) Is it easy for IT guys to switch to consulting ? Ll their work ex be valued there or not ?

4) Last one after 5 years , when in IT i might get around 8-10 LPA , will it be wise to join a 2 year MBA course talking from the ROI perspective . I know MBA's real benefits ll be seen in the longer term . But just wanted to know if it ll be better to go for a 2 year or a 1 year course then ?

Looking forward to the reply :-P ..... Sorry for so many questions

Dear PUYs

I am to appear in my CA Final exams in November 2011.
I wish to know further career opportunities and additional courses i can pursue after CA.

I am not interested in CS and CFA.
MBA as well is not a option for me as i need to study and appear for entrance exams...

I have my interests in Management, Project Management, Information Systems, SAP

Please add on other fields that i can explore upon
and let know courses that will help add value to my degree..

If you plan to do MBA then go for it otherwise if you want to work joint NTPC. It depends on what your priorities are. Moreover, if you want to do MBA and want to bell the CAT again and believe that you can do it, then join NTPC. In the end it all depends on what your career goal is. Let us know it and we may be able to help you. We, specially me, do not want to make choices for your. You have to do it on your own. We can help you in deciding and reaching your destination.

If your company is paying the amount or there is any definitive scope of role change/promotion/any benefit in the present company, then go for it.

Why don't you go for full-time MBA?

If anybody has any information related to the Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Advertising Management and Public Relations offered by MICA, please share some details and experiences..

Most of the information is available on MICA's website. What exactly are you looking for?

I have gone through the information available on their website.. But I would like to know other details from someone who is already doing the course or have done the course so that i can know all the ins and outs of the program..

So, if somebody can provide me this info.. please help..!!!

My query is regarding PRM and CFA. After analyzing the pros and cons of PRM as well as CFA, I have come to the conclusion that PRM would suit me more. The only thing that holds me back from it, as opposed to CFA, is that PRM is relatively little known in India, as opposed to CFA. I am a grad from IIT B and have been working in a core sector.

Should I go for PRM instead of CFA?

Who said that PRM is not known in India? It is your perception. But FRM and CFA are more sought after. Go ahead, it is a good course. I have PMed you a link. Chances are that you must have gone through it but I think it is worth noting.

If you are from IITB, then one of your senior conducts classes for CFA. His name is Mayank Agarwal and runs a company called ProCore. If you want I can send you his contact details.
hi puys,
i m new here and am actually feeling lost as to how to get my query solved!!! this thread was a really welcome relief!!! all i want to know is does paid internships count as work experience??? i have done 2 internships of 6months each where i was paid 8,000 per month nad i wanted to know whether i can refer to it as work experience in my application??? plz reply!!!!

Work experience actually is post-qualification work experience. Suppose you are doing your bachelors. Any job/intern-ship/training done before you complete your bachelors degree is not counted as work experience.
