Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

Hello everyone

Right now I am stuck in a terrible job working under a whimsical boss whose only work is to demoralize his juniors.I have secured 89 % in 10th and 12th and 74 % in graduation.I have already completed 1 year in this company. Should I leave this job and sit at home and prepare for CAT coz this job is really creating a havoc on my mental health. But then, does work ex play an imp role?

P.S I have already joined AIMCATs and have been securing 95+ in the same.

Please please reply. I am really fed up of that bully

if your job is not giving ample amount of time to study and as you say is affecting your mental health then i would say better leave the job and start concentrating full time on cat coz at the end of the day even work ex wont help when you did get calls from good college.
since you are getting 95+, in 3-4 months you can touch that sacred 99. i think that good percentile without work ex is much better than average percentile with work ex coz it totally depends on you how much you can show other aspects and dominate the workex part in those 30 minutes of interview....at the end of the day what matters is percentile and nothing but percentile ......

Hi, I have completed my B.Tech. this year. I have two offers, one from Infosys (Systems Engineer) and other from Nagarro (Software Developer). Please suggest which one would be better considering I don't intend to do an MBA for at least 2 years.

Infosys is a good option.

I am in a complete state of confusion and depression. This post maybe a bit lenghty but i will try to make it as short as possible and i really need some sincere suggestion so please help me out.

I did my 12th in 2005...wanted to become a doctor..prepared hard and took 1 year drop but couldnt get into any government medical or dental college. Finally took admission in a pvt dental college but financial burden was too high and i had to drop it. Finally i took a different road and started my BBA in 2007. was working in BPO sector as well so couldnt do well in my graduation and finally i think i will have a score arnd 58-60% in BBA in total. Took cat 09 and got 90%ile. But had a major accident(had to go through several plastic surgeries to fix my face :S) and couldnt appear in my 5th semester examination. But still i didnt lose my heart and thought i would do prepare harder for CAT 10. Got 95+%ile in all the mocks consistently but finally got a score of 70%ile. I don't want to blame either the cat authorities or myself but it sure has ruined all my plans. Now i am 24 yrs old with 0 experience and only a few national sports certificate to entertain my CV. I have one job in hand, which i am planning to take. Its not very lucrative but something is better than nothing. I have lost my faith in CAT but still i am planning to take cat 11 as well..but i am confused should i concentrate on my job for a while or should i go for cat 11...i am not interested in the profile i am getting but its the only option i have..hell confused please advise me..wat shud i do?..

Thanks for the reply, could you please elaborate on why Infosys would be better. I am considering joining Nagarro at this moment as they seem to be giving better work and no benches :P. Is brand name that much of a big deal?

With the boom that Infosys and other IT companies have this time, most probably you won't get on bench. Even if you do get bench, it won't extend 15-20 days, as this is the time senior people take to allocate a new joinee into some project.

Yup... brand name is a big deal..... but in the end it's upto the person.

hi guys...

can please help me out in deciding which is better for doing M.Tech...DTU(Formerly DCE), Bawana Road or NSIT, Dwarka??

thnx in advance..

and plz reply quick....DTU admission tommorroe!

I have completed my B.tech and am placed in infosys. Am very dedicated to CAT and scored an okayish 93%ile this year , ( 97 in Mhcet nd 86 in XAT) without any significant preparition. so, naturally, i was pretty confident of making it big this time after putting in my best! Now, when everything was apparently rosy, i went ahead and had a road accident during my 8th sem due to which i missed a couple of papers! i have my joining@infy in a couple of weeks, but since infosys frowns upon active backlogs due to ANY reason, i dnt think , i stand a chance. My Dad owns a construction firm. so , should i look actively for off campus opportunities and hunt for a job..or should i focus on cat and show Family business as a valid work ex in the so called gap period. will not having a job ,taint my profile completely and screw my chances in the interview?? I feel so lost now, in the middle of this BIG MESS that i find myself in.

Im currently working in CG and my exp till date is 16 months...
dis year, my CAT, XAT and SNAP were okayish...91 %ile , 90 %ile and 109...but i didnt join any insti...
Right now, due to family issues, I may not be willing to leave my current job unless Im getting into IIM C...Im even not applying for colleges like NITIE and MDI....And wont look to join lower IIMs....

Having said this, my prep is on full song...and Im trying hard for IIM C...

I know the risk margin is too big !!!

The thing is I dont know if im doing the right thing ...
Could you guys suggest ?

This is not the right time to decide which college to join..
First focus on getting calls..get converts..and then you can choose what to do...
I'll say fill all the forms..it'll just cost you some money..at end of day say you've only MDI convert and you feel at that moment you're saturated preparing for CAT...you can join it...if not...koi force thodi na karega jabardasti koi college mein jaane ke liye...
plus if you get call for biggies, these interviews can be good practise interviews too...
in short...focus on preps...if I may say (not in the offending sense) don't build castles in air...you need to pick ur %ile up a lot from last year and you should not lose your focus thinking about these topics...

PS- I personally skipped filling form of MDI. But now when I look back, I feel I did a big mistake. Form bharne mein kya jata. Given random nature of cat and uncertainties in life...I should've filled it...

disclaimer: in no way I'm undermining MDI or NITIE...these are really respectabl instis..by biggies I just meant ABC as by popular perception...

I was working in a pvt class from 15 th may to 15 th august full time & fully paid after my last sem. exam (since my joining in PSU was in august end) but at that time I was not having this certificate of work ex & respective salary slips too; so that's why last year while filling up the online form of the cat i had given 0 MONTHS OF work ex ( TILL 31-08-2010), now I got this letter of 3 months of work ex letter n related documents so can I include this 3 month work ex this year or my last years mistake will create a problem in future ? plz reply

Hi boddy,

Am working in TCS for the last 6 months and also preparing for MBA exams...So can tell you that a lot depends on the project you are in and the Project Manager you are working under...In some projects you can get enough time for yourself but then some projects can screw you up! And I feel that the case will be the same in other companies as well...

thanks bro....dat means u say dat company does nt matter much...its only the project that matters

So i m choosing Mphasis leaving behind TCS

Is it a wise decission ?

I m worried at the company much

Does any one here know about Mphasis company ?

Hi,
I just completed a year in my job(at Dr Reddy's Labs ) and I am planning to leave it by first week of september to prepare for CAT as my present job is very frustrating and drains out all my spirits.
I hardly get 3 hours for preparation and I missed out on AIMCAT 2011 ( Din noe about the date it'll commence)
Can someone please tell me which mock tests to join and the dates from which they will start?
Also, is it advisable to give mocks without completing the whole syllabus?

A} is diploma in banking & finance of IIBF considered as professional course by IIM's ?
B} while claiming the work ex what documents one has to produce as per IIM criteria?
C}I was working in a pvt. class from 15 th may to 15 th august full time & fully paid after my last sem. exam (since my joining in PSU was in august end) but at that time I was not having this certificate of work ex & respective salary slips too; so that's why last year while filling up the online form of the cat i had given 0 MONTHS OF work ex ( TILL 31-08-2011), now I got this letter of 3 months of work ex letter n related documents so can I include this 3 month work ex this year or my last years mistake will create a problem in future?

i'll strongly suggest to not to leave your job...how will you manage inside the b-school then when you'll have atleast 5 times the workload(believe me..workload will be 5 times)..and obv it is going to be frustrating as it's not possible you like all 5 subjects...deadlines...activities...you'll feel lucky if you get a sleep of 4 hours...
and it'll go very bad in your resume and hamper your chances in interview (atleast that's my perception)..clearing written is just one part...and you need to clear interviews too for joining your dream college...
If you want to take a leave even after what I said...simply take a medical leave for 2 months...why to quit job...

I won't respond to questions on prep part..Hopefully someone else helps you out on this.
hi all.

I need the help of anyone who is out there in pagalguy.

Let me start. I have a B.E. in mechanical engineering and passed out in 2008. Since then I am working in TCS. I had no interest in MBA in the year 2008, 2009, 2010 as I thought that a job in the software company will be enough to fulfill my wishes. So I didnot appear for any MBA exames in the above 3 years.

But slowly I realised that life in software company is not as I expected it to be and so in Jan 2011 I decided to go for CAT 2011.

there are many people who realize the same...don't worry...

Due to lack of planning I was unable to put a honest preparation towards CAT 2011. Now July have started and I am only 1% prepared compared to what I should have been. I will do my best this year but I am not hopeful to pull things of this year.

As a result I have started to prepare to CAT 2012 simultaniously.
why being so pessimistic..there are good 4 months left..even if you're trailing..put double effort than others...no point in procrastinating and thinking about next year...start preparing right now and you'll sail through..nahin hua toh there is always next year...but why to think of it now...

When CAT 2011 starts I will be 3 yrs experienced and when CAT 2012 starts I will be 4 years experirnced

Now my concern is: Is 4 years of work exp too much for CAT ? Should I have cleared CAT when I was 2 yrs exp? Should I forget about CAT now as my years of experience is increasing?
All of u out there please please help me....:-(
I think this link is a good indicator in itself

"About 70 per cent students joining IIM-C this year have more than one years of work experience"

source:
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/iimc-inducts-100-more-students-to-meet-obc-quota/808347/

I personally have close to 4 years of experience and there are many more across b-schools with high work ex. And lemme say this straight- If somebody says to you, you can't achieve your dreams, will you fight back and work hard to prove them wrong or quit working towards your dream.
Prep hard and put a crack to CAT -> that's in your hands
so start working towards it without wasting time.
What you can do next year, you can do this year too if you're determined enough..

Also you can explore option of ISB or executive MBA next year...but right now there is no point thinking about them.
PS- to others...please post all your queries on this thread only. I just check the threads randomly and post the response. I won't be able to respond to queries through PM or personally. Extremely sorry but my schedule does not permit me the same. If you post on this thread atleast somebody else can help you out or offer a different opinion.

Hi Puys...

I am currently [email protected]sly wanted to leave job as was nt performing upto the mark in Mocks but dropped the idea after seeing reply of Hate sir...Thanks

I have a small query..What is the situation there at top B-schools..I mean Do I have more probability to get jobs in IT company even if I do MBA in finance..???
And is 1 year experience @ IT sector considered good in placements??

If any senior puy throw some light on placement procedures there according to profile and average package based on experience..It will seriously be very helpful

Was just wondering if things might be different there!!!
