Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

Hi ,
I am not sure if this is right forum ,but i have a query here.
Will working in central govt (defence) will hamper your chances of working in foreign countires in future?I mean will there be any visa issues for studying or working?

I am a B.Tech graduate from IIT Bombay and working in the automobile (Transmission) sector since last one year. How good is an MBA from IGNOU for me and my future prospects? I am not eligible for CAT as I do not qualify for the minimum marks required in graduation.

Thank you.

Generally people in such position and in such sector pursue distance MBA to switch their profile from tech to commercial side in the same company. A distance MBA is generally helpful just to clear the benchmark kept by company internally. If u really want to do distance MBA then would also suggest look into IIMs distance MBA program

Also Have u checked other entrance exams?? like XAT, FMS, JMET

They are equally prestigious and I would highly recommend u to try for full time MBA.. manufacturing experience helps also in career progression post MBA. Also u might give it a though to GMAT

AFAIK colleges like IIM A, B , S , SPJain and IMI have been putting lot of stress on academics than others. Hence for rest average acads with good CAT n fair GD/PI should get u through

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Could you please tell me about some reputed Business schools (in India and Abroad) which I could crack if I score good in GMAT and in which my graduation academic record could be ignored? Also, how are the other Masters programs in Business related fields (Finance, for eg) which could help me switch to the Management field.

Almost all the Business schools I checked had some eligibility criteria related to graduate marks. The only reputed Business school I came across till now which only proposes just the requirement of a graduate degree (without any minimum percentage) is ISB. Could you suggest any other? I was thinking about IGNOU because at this time I do not have many choices.

Thank you.

guys i got a job offer for vodafone cre where i will have to work in vodafone outlet for sales , work on their MIS system and achieve team sales targets . salary around 12k inhand only + incentive . they will give 45 days training then put in 1 of their outlets . after 6 months if performance good they will shift to vodafone payroll while currently its on a consultancy payroll for 6 months .

will this job experience help in mba in marketing in 1-2 years

Well honestly I dont' have idea what is the min. cutoff of different B schools. u may check this thread and post there http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/why-poor-acads-25021573

For GMAT based schools..u may need to check individual B school and get in touch with admission rep over there. ABroad admission is different ball game altogether as people are taken not on just factor. It is about GMAT score, your SOP, essay answers and reco apart from acads. If you could justify the reason of tht. It wld b fine..also abroad every other bschool has different criteria and need and accordingly they look for those qualities. Hence GMAT is advisable.

Also u can check executive MBA requirements in India. if its upto ur requirements then would suggest get some work ex and go for executive MBA

Any full time work experience is taken as work experience but since u wont b on payroll I doubt tht this would be helpful. Also , as you wouldn't b on the payroll of vodafone your work ex wont be taken as of vodafone rather of tht consultancy

Hi All,

I am seeking for some career guidance here.

My Background:
Electronics and Telecomm Engineer from Mumbai University.
Working as Risk analyst in Credit card risk managment.(2 years)
Planning to appear for FRM , nov2011

I applied for MFE progs to US but could not get through. And due to some personal constraint I cant apply next year. Now I have to be in India only.

I am looking forward career in Mathematical Finance. I wish to deal with Maths and Programming more than finance itself. I want to be at technical side(Quant/Modeller/Developer). Can you please guide me varius options available?

I want to work here itself(India). So please let me know what are options available to progress towords career path outlined above.

I researched and got the following options:
1.CQF: Costly, not sure how much it is recognised in India.
2.Actuaries:Big time investment(I can do that without issue) ,not sure if it can help me to land in IB,derivatives, hedge funds.(not inclined to work for Life insurance, employee benifit sector)

the thing is the question for me is if not MFE then wht?
What can get closer to it being in India?

Thanks

so it wont be much help even though il be working with vodafone ? will it be counted as no work ex as i would be on payroll of the consultancy ?

Also what about telemarketing executives , does such a profile help in mba admission after a year ?

I posted a query here a couple of weeks ago, but a bit lost as I did not find any helpful advice for me. Its okay.
I made up my mind to go for GMAT coaching. Can anyone suggest me whats the best GMAT and MBA abroad oriented coaching / counselling service available at Hyderabad ? I googled , but I couldnt find out which one is the best as everyone boasts their institute is top . I am totally unaware of the whole setup as I dont have any friends who went through this MBA stream.
Can someone please help me at this atleast. ?
I know..it may not be permitted to refer institute's name in public forums ..but can someone give a personal mail to me ??
I am sorry , if posting this is also against guidelines. if so inform me , i will delete it and pardon me for my ignorance .

First of all both courses are not comparable, IMT N is a general MBA course and Business Design is a specialized course

So i would suggest go with your interest first , whether you are ready to specialize in BD , go through the curriculum , career prospects etc

all d best 😃

Placement figures would be mentioned on respective websites , check their mandatory disclosure documents

If you specialize in any course and it doesnt map to you goals or skills sets , then it would be a waste of money on both accounts :)

General MBA is always better as you have more options , if you feel BD is what you may take , try contacting some seniors of the course ,and ask how their summers went as , this is a new course and i guess started last year itself

If you have good work ex, join WE. It gives lot of opportunities. Ebiz have spez like general MBA viz fin, mktg, operations, etc.
IMT N is costly and less exposure.
WE has good crowd and faculty.
