Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

Hi All,

I am in a dilemma to choose an option. I currently have a 7 lakh job and working as a project manager in a US based IT company and a work ex of 3 years. Is it worth for me to do an MBA now , and that too from TAPMI?

Here my academic profile:
Xth: 91%
XII th- 95%
BE - CSE- 83 %
Work ex: 3 years in an IT company

Offers:
IMT- Converted Hyderabad 😞 not joining
FORE : converted but not joining
TAPMI- Converted
BIM- Awaiting results

This was my 4th attempt at CAT .
So what will be the suggestion and your take on this? Should i do MBA now? If yes , TAPMI or BIM?
Are there any other alternatives ? IS executive MBA advisable for an experience of 3-4 years with an IT background.

I had already posted this but didnt get more replies or suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Since you're already a Project Manager in the company, I guess it doesnt make sense to do a full time course. It shows you have the potential to perform. I think (and this is just my personal opinion) it would be better if you do an Executive MBA from one of the top B schools like IIMs, XLRI etc. Or if you're ready to take up an MBA entrance exam take up GMAT and go for the 1-year course at XLRI, ISB or GLIM.

In both cases you can easily justify your decision for doing an MBA. To secure or maintain your position, which is sort of unstable without a formal degree. And again advisability of exec MBA with IT background, would depend on whether you want to remain in IT or switch sector. With an execMBA it will be slightly tougher to switch tracks like that.

Dude! you're copy pasting and posting the same query in multiple threads over past few days. 8 posts in 8 threads to be exact!!

And all in the wrong threads!! Use Search function to find relevant thread to post your query and don't go on a posting spree. Post in the thread and wait for a response. If you don't get one, then post again. You're like posting every other minute in a different thread!!!!

Thanks for your reply,
Is the LBSIM is a good college. If yes what will be it's all india ranking?
As I understand that the College Brand helps in future.
I was bit concerned as many of the Tier 2 colleges like lbsim boasts the placement of 6-6.5 pkgs. and 100% placement
But being not in college we don't know the actual status of college.
I contacted the students of lbsim but they confused me.
Please advise

I would say, TRUST NO RANKING!! Understand what your preferences, priorities are first. Then get to know details about the college wrt that. If you get more than 70-80% match then you can go ahead with joining the college, LBSIM or any college for that matter.

College brand does matter, but what matters more is your performance. Even if you go to a college which does not have that great a brand name, with your performance you can compensate for that. And placements or the company you get matters or is affected by college brand only when you pass out. Then its all upon you and your performance.

If seniors there confused you, try going to the college and finding out yourself!! I know it sounds impossible, but nothing is impossible if you are passionate and seriously want to do your MBA! 6-6.5 package btw is decent enough and you can probably take off 0.5 from it AT MAX for actual figures. And also think this is just after you pass out. What after 2-3 years. It can very well be near to 10-11lakh or so with one job switch (or maybe 2)
Please tell:
Do IIMs accepts :
Marks of 12th and 10th--- from The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

NIOS is for distance education for 10th and 12th class...

AFAIK the eligibility criteria for IIMs or any college has this line:
The Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.

As per the NIOS website, it says it is equivalent. Source: http://www.nios.ac.in/secondary.htm (If the course given in that link is what you have done)

So that makes you eligible, provided you satisfy other eligibility criteria.

Hi Puys,

A very close friend just graduated from VIT, Biotech. He's got a job with Aricent and a pretty good package. His ultimate goal is to do an MBA though.

He didn't have maths in 10+2, and even his BTech. is in a non-quant field. He asked me if there were some finance related courses he could do (other than CFA) to build up his profile.

What would you guys suggest? What finance related courses (short term/long term) can he do besides CFA to build up his profile?

bt i want admission this year....

Then go and request dean/directors of various colleges.
Tell them that I have not taken any entrance test but I wnt
admission this year itself because I will work hard if admitted.
Some one mite listen to u and help u. All the best.

See short term courses wont really help . He can do NCFM for
his own knowledge but not for profile. Not having maths wont matter
a great deal.

see without cat/mat u won't get gud colleges but there are colleges which take their own test in case candidate has no cat/mat score. just search for them on google.n there is an institute in delhi Netaji subash institute of management studies...go their and ask them...last year one of my friends took admission their without appearing for any entrance test and fee is also reasonable. Its in netaji subhash place near pitampura.

NCFM certifications are good for knowledge but cant fetch a job.But since your friend's ultimate goal is to pursue MBA i would advise him to go for these certifications as these would give him a basic knowledge of finance, moreover this knowledge is really helpful when it comes to interview. So at the time of admission they'll really help.I read it on pagalguy only that one guy was there who cleared kj somaiya interview only on the basis of NCFM certifications(knowledge provided by them).Besides if he is interested in risk management he can go for FRM. CFP(certified financial planner) is also there if he wants to go for financial planning or marketing of financial instruments etc.
Then go and request dean/directors of various colleges.

U also better not ask such hillarious questions time and time again.
If u just want to do MBA u may do that from ANY D grade college
but then it wont help u in any way.U are only 21..prepare for CAT and aim for a good institute.
