I'm thinking about doing an MBA..Cannot go in for a regular one for various reasons so I'm here to take your opinion regarding distance education MBA.
Planning to do a distance education MBA and looking for any information that you maybe having. From best University offering distance education MBA and also as to whether it'll be of any help to me. Please can you help me guys to make up my mind... Any help will be appreciated .
Thanks and Regards
I ll suggest instead of going for distance education u can think about part time MBA which is offered by many top notch colleges in India. Although it's a 3 yrs course but it is more valuable in industry than distance MBAs.
Even distance education is offered by Symbiosis, IIMs satallite learning programs among the others. You can get info abt the same from hughes or NIIT Imperia who conduct it in different cities.
I have converted XIMB BM but confused what to do? Although the college is good but it doesnt attract finance profiles from IB. Really confused to do, I still have the patience to give IIMs another try, but Prometeric has made matters worst... can't trust it. Also, my poor acads make me nervous too:(:(
I am work ex guy with aroung 5 years exp.gave cat in 2010 got 70 percentile. want to do mba from top 10 colleges.Thinking to quit job in june and prepare well for cat 11 and other exams.my profile is 10th 83.33% 12th is 93.4% btech ECE 74.4% from non IIT.NO extra curricular.Tell me my chances of getting into top colleges.

Your work ex would be around 45 months by next year and this will take care of your slightly lesser marks in 12th for few of the IIMs, so there remains a chance of getting a call.
If you can be patient and work in direction where you score as well ( despite Prometric effect , luck factor will play role ) then you might get calls from few IIMs. At your profile, i will suggest to give it a one more shot.
Cheers!

You have decent acads plus a good amount of work experience... you can easily bag few IIM calls with a decent score apart from calls from non IIMs in case you clear the cutoffs. Also, your chances of getting profile based calls from colleges which give weightage to acads and work ex are decent.
ur MBA prospects dont suffer at all dear....... But why two degrees....... M.tech would enable you to get into core technical and core technical fields alos pay very well..........
I would suggest that doing both of them would mean a lot of time invested.......
You should complete ur M.Tech if u wanna do for core fields, and than get into a job and after working for a while see if u need MBA degree to rise up the ladder or not.........
Best of luck and PM in case you need further advice........
Thanks bhaiyya for your reply. My reason for the thought of joining mtech is because not only the bond is for 5 years but the bond exit is huge(~5 lakhs) as compared to the current 'standards' of the industry which is not possible for me to pay if I convert any of the top b-schools afterwards along with their tution fees.I don't have a job at hand and also most of the organizations have finished their recruitment process by now. So in this case..what do you suggest? It seems to me mtech is the only viable option for me now..unless I convert and get a job which can be another option (better) than mtech within say another 4/5 months(which is quite dicy an issue).
thanqs for ur reply, can u give ur suggestion regarding quiting my job and based on my previous cat score is the time enough to crack cat this year.Does not having any extra curriculars effect my chances.

Buddy
No time is less to crack CAT as people have done it with a few week's preparation as well and am sure that if you dedicate the left time for your preparation , you will definitely get into one of the leading B-Schools.
Trust your abilities and remain confident.. you will do well

Hi Vishal,
You can go for IT as your majors and take up finance/marketing/operations as youe secondary subject.
This ways you can eaisily fit into a role of a business analyst in any of the big firms, and with a experience of 5+ years you can also get admission in some of the best institutes provided u score good in the enterance, so my suggestion would be tat you should go for it but with good prepration so that u score well......
I am having 2.5 years of experience(IT) pkg. 4.78. Given CAT 2010 91 percentile. not interested in next year cat. I have converted LBSIM delhi PGDM Gen. My queries: Should I join this inst. How much pkg. should I expect from this institute?

You should look at the salary that you'll get by doing MBA, but don't make it the sole criteria to join or not join any college. The value the MBA degree will hold down the lane is much more than what you'll spend now.
If you're decent enough and work hard, it won't be a problem for you to earn a decent salary of minimum 7-8lakhs immediately after doing MBA.
This is Rahul here . I finished my engineering this year & have been working for an Oil Major PSU for the last 10 months . I have pretty decent acads 10th - 89.4% ICSE 12th - 91 % State Board BE - 9.29 (DR# 2) NIT Allahabad Extra Curriculars - Okayish. Some certis here and there in Robotics,Gaming,Event coordination,Training & Placement committee member (just for the numbers)
I appeared for CAT this year and managed a meager 94 percentile which fetched me only IIM Shillong call (79.6 percentile in LR-DI ) which I did not attend. Got dinged by IIM-K because of my ICSE Board (fell short by 3.4 points-Got an 84.6), IIM-I had a DI cutoff of 80 ,so got Dinged again.Neways ,enough with the moaning .
Doing an MBA from the top 6 IIMs is my dream.
1-) I am new to PG & with whatever I have read on the hallowed forums in consultation with some of my friends and seniors in different IIM's , I have come to realize that there aren't many students with an Oil & Gas Sector profile studying at the top tier colleges. Is it because the colleges have an aversion to students with such profile or the no of applicants having such profile & wanting to do an MBA are less???
2-) Secondly I have a gap of 1 year after my 12th but in my opinion I made up for it by working hard during my engineering days maintaining an upward trend when it comes to academics and plan to do so if & when I get through a good MBA college. But will this hamper my chances during the interviews & what could be the best possible answer explaining my gap .
3-) Also it would be of great help if someone can suggest me what else can I do to improve my extra curriculars keeping in mind with the profile I have mentioned above . I am seriously not happy with the ones I have & would definitely want to improve .
Puys , Moderators and seniors in IIM's - Waiting for some replies.Thanx in advance !!!
Thanks for your reply, Is the LBSIM is a good college. If yes what will be it's all india ranking? As I understand that the College Brand helps in future. I was bit concerned as many of the Tier 2 colleges like lbsim boasts the placement of 6-6.5 pkgs. and 100% placement But being not in college we don't know the actual status of college. I contacted the students of lbsim but they confused me. Please advise

I am working in a major Oil PSU for 20 months. The job profile is not quite exciting and involves routine work(it is basically technical support to sales function).Though the volume of work is quite high but in totality it doesn't require any creative thought. Sal package - 7 lakhs
My profile is as follows:
Grad: Mech engg. - 9.4 on scale of 10 12th - 77 %- CBSE:-( 10th - 81 %- CBSE :-(
Extracurriculars- decent
Given my work profile, I can not spare more than 2-3 hrs per day for CAT. Gave CAT last year(2010) . Got 94.3 though DI took me down @ 72
I could not get any call from any of the IIMs (probably due to low DI score). No call from NITIE MDI -did not apply My FMS score was 95 % ile .
Given my average score in 10th and 12th, do you think its worth going for another try on CAT this year. Can these scores be an impediment in getting call from any IIM?
Also I have learnt that the cutoffs for fellow programmes in IIMs are quite lower than that of regular PGDM( say 91-92 %ile). Is it true?
Guys suggest me how can i improve my extra curriculars as i have none.do they really effect my chances of getting into IIM's.I want to quit my job in june for cat preparation.having 5 yrs exp.Does break in job effect during GD pi

Generally people get extra currics n their CVs from what they have done in college. Apart from that , working for a NGO , some tasks for society are being produced in resumes as extra currics.
As of now, you can be the part of some NGO .. this will make you happy as well because working for underpriviliged or needy always give a soothing feel of satisfaction plus you can show it in your extra currics as well.
Also, there have been many people who took break from job for preparation and converted the calls from coveted B-Schools, so need not worry. You just need to justify the gap to panel in an appropiate manner.
I will suggest to not to worry about GDPI at this stage and prepare well to fetch calls from coveted B-Schools and then gdpi can be worked upon.
