Hi,
I am currently working with a reputed ad agency as junior art director. I have completed Bachelors in Mass Media and completed my post graduation in Creative Crafting Communications(CCC) from MICA(Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad). I am not really satisfied with the work I am doing right now and I am planning to shift from Art Direction to Brand Management and Planning.
Can some one help me if there are any course in India which would help me with my career in Brand Management and Planning? If there is then what is the criteria for the admission process?
Plz reply..!!
Hello all,
I took CAT 2010 (NC-OBC)
NIRMA- waitlist 151
imt hyd-converted but not joining.
IEMR(energy management)- got the call..i am a bit skeptical abt it as its first batch will come out next year .But the big plus is its summer placement which attracted PSU's like HPCL,BPCL,IGL .
My academic details are below.
10th-76%
12th-59%(W.B board)
B.tech-74% ( Anna university,chennai)
I have work ex of around 3 years.( 3yrs will be completed in june) in IT,telecom.currently working with Aircel.
Extracurriculars-played in interdistrict cricket, national level paper presentations during engineering.
i have given cat last 2yrs (2009-prometric screwed me) so not able to decide whether to give cat 2011 or join NIRMA if i get(but conversion chances are less) And with the trend of IIM's giving more weight on 10,12 ,my chances of getting IIM's are very thin i suppose.
PLZ guide me what to do..??Thanx in advance
well i would suggest that u write CAT one last time ie after u r not able to convert ur call from NIRMA. U could also try giving JMET as IIT - D&B; are really good colleges too.ATB

ur profile is ok , u need to crack the exams to go in top 15 to be frank , ur cat 09,10 scores seem average and with job u might find it even more difficult to prepare... get a score in XAT,CAT,SNAP,IIFT,JMET etc as simple as that
Help!!

Answers to your queries:
1. Stay in your job for another year as it will increase your work experience anyways.
2. Prepare well for CAT / XAT and try to crack it next time. Also, do not ignore other decent entrance exams like FMS, IIFT, JMET, SNAP, NMAT etc.
3. It all depends on you and how you evolve your self in two years of MBA. Almost all sectors will be open for you but only IT will consider your experience as relevant. Also, you will have to work hard on your skill set to in-cash opportunities in other sectors.
4. Your chances of getting through a B-School depend upon too many factors like score, gd-pi, work ex, luck etc. and as far as I have seen from my case (IT EXP 4 years) and my other colleagues work exp always helps if you have worked honestly..
All the best...

Hi guys.my problem stated below.please advise.
I just completed my btech in chemical engg from one of the best non-iit institutes in india.I already had got a job but wanted to go core refinery(screwed cat this yr though the rest of the exams were pretty or rather awesome..ddnt go for them). Also the job wasn't paying much. Hence to get through the PSUs gave GATE.
End result was that I cracked it bigtime and got called for iocl.interview given but results will be out after say three months(according to the info I have).
My problem is my present job wants me to sign a 5 year bond with non-depreciating bond exit money which is pretty pathetic coz they never told anything abt bond at the time of recruitment. Now, I would NEVER like to join and stay put in that organization for 5 years.I dont have another job at hand either.Hence the end result is that I have no option but to go for mtech in one of the iits(easily got) now.
My question/query is that what or how much does my mba prospects suffer or change if I have an mtech degree(from IIT ofcourse)?I may well crack it at the final year of my mtech or get some work ex and then crack it.I really want to do mba.But my situation demands or rather forces me to go for mtech.I am confident of getting a good placement in the industry after mtech though.
Another query....does the IIMs accept people with mtech degree in their two -year flagship course.I know the PGPX ones are awesome too but heard that they dont select ppl with mtech generally(in the two-year course).
Seniors...PLEASE HELP.!!!!

I would personally not advise going for an M.Tech if you are really serious about pursuing your MBA.
The best course of action would be to stay in your current job and prepare well for the CAT.If you get into any of the top-B schools then its worth breaking the bond to join these schools.Work-Ex will be a much better boost to your profile than an M.Tech.Work-Ex will also open up other avenues such as GMAT.
Hi Puys,
My background:
10 - 85
12 - 90
BE - 79
Workex - 24 months of IT in IBM
I have taken a hasty decision because of which i am worrying a lot now. After the disastrous 86%ile in CAT '10 I had decided to resign the job and work hard for the ensuing '11 exams which was a wrong step indeed. Friends suggest me in which direction I need to go now. I can secure a job if i go to interviews.
What i have decided is to prepare for another 2 months and then go for a job.. Will it pose any problem if I utilize the entire time till NOV for prep..
Your suggestions are most welcome!
Thanks & Regards,
imate

This is a question of personal choice, take an informed decision.
Hi Lust4MBA,
Thank you for your response. I am bothering whether it would pose any problem for the interviews if I take a prolonged gap of 8 months. Just wanted to know that, as the fellow puys might have been to interviews and will be knowing the intensity there and will suggest whether that would seemingly a degrading impact or not ?

It might make an impact, again it depends on the interviewer. The question is "Will you be able to handle both CAT prep and the new job?". If you are answer is yes, go ahead and take the job, solution to your dilemma lies in your introspection about your strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats.
Sorry I am of no help to you, but you can help yourself to suceed.
Wish you the best in the life.

ur MBA prospects dont suffer at all dear....... But why two degrees....... M.tech would enable you to get into core technical and core technical fields alos pay very well..........
I would suggest that doing both of them would mean a lot of time invested.......
You should complete ur M.Tech if u wanna do for core fields, and than get into a job and after working for a while see if u need MBA degree to rise up the ladder or not.........
Best of luck and PM in case you need further advice........

can u throw some light on the shortlisting criteria of iit's(specifically d,b,m)in JMET..what amount of weightage do they give to 10,12 percentages and extracurriculars...Is there any cutoff percentiles for 10,12 in IIT's similar to that of IIM's cutoff
?
For the interview calls, there is no shortlisting criteria in terms of 10th, 12th percentages. But after the interview stage and before the final results, there is some weightage for the profile. It is not a deal breaker though, having a good enough JMET rank would do the job.

The shortlisting for GD n PI call is based on your performance in JMET. There are sectional cut off in JMET( They have 4 sections namely verbal, reasoning,DI and quants) which differs with the IIT's. I am not sure of the criteria used for the final conversion but with your marks in 10th,12th and Ug it looks very positive for an conversion if u have a gr8 gd n pi. ATB
Have been reading some good career discussions here. Thought I might pop a Q that has been plaguing me. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
