Hey Sr. Puys,
I am preparing for CAT 2011, but it happens more often than not, that the conviction of getting into IIMA dies, due to exhaustion and several other factors, that a guy in an IT industry is well aware of..
during weekdays I am able to find around 3-4hrs of study time, which I am utilizing very well, bt its agonizing to find out that m nt able to utilize the time in the weekends, which is hell important for working people taking CAT..
donno how to come out of it..

Hi Puys!
My profile is
10th :- 88%
12th :- 79%
BTech :- 69%
MBA :- 86%
Actually I did a dual degree of BTech and MBA. I have been working for past one year (IT company as usual). Now I want to know if I stand a chance of getting into IIMs.
My main problem is I already did an MBA. Would that be a problem for me? Will it prove as a hinderance for me. Bottom line is will I have a chance of doing second MBA from IIMs??
Please help!!!!

I was in the same boat while working for an IT company. One thing which works is joining a test series.....that week to week goal really motivates you to do better. If possible, join 2- creates a pressure, but good for you...ur problem of proper utilization of weekends would also be addressed...analysis of a mock test is sometimes the best of the preparations...
Another thing which my friend used to do was- might sound weird- have the picture of the famous staircase of IIMA on his PC wallpaper/desk/wall...believe me, when you will see it day in and day out- u get pumped up!
Also, if YOU CAN, give less time to your office work, stop caring too much (don't totally screw it up either!)...take some breaks...I know it might be against the acceptable "work ethics" but sometimes you really have to make a tough choice...again a caution: this could be very risky choice, need to carefully balance your office relations too (world is small, you might bump again into them)

Having already done an MBA will in no way hinder in your ambition to do a second MBA from an IIM. Rest Assured.
Infact you will stand to score points during your interviews.
So just prepare hard for CAT & take pride in having already done an MBA.

The query you have asked is a very subjective one. Every company has different salary structure according to their net worth, sales & profits & revised almost every year. Company A may offer a higher salary than Company B for same position & profile considering both A & B belong to same industry. So analyze the market reputation of the company. Connect with the employees of the company via linkedin or facebook & ask them your queries.
Moreover, as per my opinion, an experience of 1 & a half years in an industry different from the one you are intending to move into, may have prompted the HR to offer a Salary generally offered to freshers (Considering the company you are joining is a well reputed brand). I would advise you to not bother too much about salary if you are excited about the profile offered. You have age on your side. You can any day move onto greener pastures after gaining sufficient knowledge & experience.

Dude, considering that you are not in school anymore...I am afraid, you may not be eligible for any Olympiad exams now as mostly students currently studying in schools are eligible for writing olympiads.

ask ur dad or relative to arrange ur summer training in an industry u want...(most of the inturns are done with reference)
otherwize dere are options on respective website of the company where u can apply for internships or contact their HR manager directly.

I am presuming you need to undergo industrial training for the whole of 7th Semester. If this is so, try any of these options:
1. You must be having sound connections with your seniors. Talk to them & ask for some assistance in getting an internship. I am sure, your seniors will reach out to you.
2. Ask your college placement in-charge to provide any possible assistance in this regard.
3. Network with likeminded friends who already have their trainings finalized in one of the companies to get any sort of info on possible openings.
4. Ask help from elders in your family, including distant relatives who might be in Govt Jobs. The Govt PSUs really do entertain College internships.
5. Any contacts in the industry, not necessarily the company, you wish to do your internship is worth their weights in Gold. Ask for assistance from them.
6. Try Facebook & Linkedin to connect with industry people, Seniors, & your Classmates to find suitable openings for doing internship
7. If you are from IT branch, then you can also go to NIIT, SSI etc for Live Project Training. The difference being, instead of getting paid, you are asked to pay.
8. If nothing of the above options work out approach your college HOD again & ask for doing internship in college itself under any of the professors. Helping a professor in research work for his Phd is also very valuable.
I hope the above options help you. All the best.

no summer training is not done in college, it is done in a company, its an industrial training basically.
the salary depends, usually company dont give salary, but if ur from IIT or any colg of that sought u can get a stipend usually 10-15k
main aim is to learn the working of company and to get industry exposure.

will have 1 year exp in PSU (BSNL) by the time of next CAT pls tell wat are my chances of making to IIM
some one pls answer...........:cheerio:
MissionIIM2012 Sayssome one pls answer...........:cheerio:
Just aim to score 99.99+ in your CAT & hope that IIMs don't screw candidates again on the basis of scores in 10th & 12th, even though you have excellent score in 10th & decent enough in 12th. Anything less than 99 would decrease your chances of getting into an IIM by a huge magnitude.
Hey Puys...
I completed my BE(E&TC;) in 2009 and preparing for CAT 2011.
Currently i am working in a core Telecom Company for the last 1.5 years. The work was good initially but now it has turned into a very monotonous experience everyday. And alongwith the job i havent got a lot of time to prepare for CAT.
I wasnt very interested in the tech field.Nd i havent really enjoyed my work from day1.Rightnow i have an opportunity to work with a family startup.
My father is opening his own HR consultancy(He's was Director HR in a big company previously).
What i wanted to know was if i quit my job and join the startup full time will it be taken as a negative in my interview?
Will it be counted as full time exp???
If i join then technically ill have full time exp.And that too good exp since it is a startup and alongwith that ill get some decent time to prepare for CAT.
Waiting for ur opinions.

Absolutely, go ahead & join your Dad's start up.
Considering, the experience of your Dad, you would be looked after well & you would have lots to learn. An experience in a start up will not only broaden your mind but also will help you score over others during interviews. Make sure to present yourself as someone who did not get undue favours due to the start up being owned by your Dad.
Also, you will definitely have more time to study for CAT as well.
Its a win-win situation.
