Hi Guys Lemme just come straight to the point, I was working in L&T; Heavy Engineering Division, and I worked there for two years. But as I had to work in long and rotating shifts, I was not able to prepare for cat or any other MBA exams properly. So i left the company and started working in a very small company as a Marketing Head, in delhi whose revenue is somewhere around 1 crore..it gave me enough time to prepare for the CAT as well..But now in every interview I get screwed badly on why i switched from such a huge reputed company to a small company..Mostly my answer is that I was getting an opportunity to start a business from the scratch..and I joined in because I thought it to be a very good learning experience. But somehow I am not able to convince the Interviewer...and I have faced 2 interviews..at least they grill me on this topic for half an hour..what should I do..do help me guys because the biggies like MDI, IMT and TISS are yet to come..so please pour in and help me!!

Dont give them impression that you didnt like previous company.......start from your learning experience from previous company to new exposure in new company.
I try my best not to give that impression of not liking my company coz its not true..it would be helpful if anybody could give a more elaborate answers...but thanks

XII -73 % (2004)(bio-maths)
(selected in jec jab,for engineering-didn't take)
(2 yr drop)(average no. of drop in m.p.'s only govt dental college-3)
PMT-2006 placed 322 among 65,000 students+court case (which i won_but judge just said " this should not happen again with any one")(govt had not shown available seats in 1st councelling _so alloted bds)
since then doing bds 5.5 yr degree
but FAILED SEVERAL TIMES !!! 😞 due to depressionet al +financial constraints + court case ..etc passing marks for each subject is 50(theory)+50(practical).... hence my current percentage @ 58 %(upto 3rd yr) (class topper has 63% overall)(m.p. has only one govt dental college in which i'm studying..... i'm the person with the max no. of marks in the admissions test ....GOD where the hell is my life going...
PLEASE HELP ASAP....

i have finished my bachelors in physiotherapy from manipal university in feb 2010.. i have around 10 months of work ex as a consultant physiotherapist and as a center manager... gave the cat this year

va- 95%
di- 80%
quants- 61%:splat:
i gave all the exams this yr iift- 27, fms- missed by quite a lot, tiss- by 1.5 marks:splat: and xat- 66%:banghead:
10th- 85%
12- 73%:
grads- 66%
( i know ordinary score.. but this was 3rd in uni)
im in a quandary now.. should i join what ever coll comes my way..options are

You may mention to them the responsibility you had, changes you made and etc. They would want to know how the work molded you into a more informed person than you were before working.

I have got 3.5 yr exp in the IT industry, at present working in a well known IT company in kolkata, trying to crack CAT for the last 2 yrs....this year got 75.32 percentile...with minimum preparation and TIME test series. I have worked as a developer and right now I am working as a tester. From this year onwards I want to give a serious shot at ALL the management entrance exams including XAT, SNAP, FMS & IIFT.....I am also eager to have a go at MICA......My interest is in Finance. But since I get very less time afetr office, is classroom course by TIME is a better option.
My acads are: -
Class X - 80.5%
Class XII - 68.2%
Graduation - 80.71%
Post graduation - 7.5 CGPA.
Do I stand a chance in getting any 1 of the IIMs provided I get a very good CAT percentile. Please advise which IIMs will NOT be calling me based on my acads score. What are my chances for all the other MBA instts. I am looking for only the Top 20 MBA instts (ALL the new IIMs included).....

1.) shall i get into the job and prepare for MBA simultaneously as the job will be very demanding . and will the less package and small company hamper my future prospects?
2.) or i drop a year and prepare for MBA?
my dreams are not that high . i just aspire of top 50 colleges.

Hi. I am a B.TECH with approx 4.7 years of work ex in IT industry. I am from DCE-(delhi coll of engineering ) which is a very renowned institute for B.TECH. I wanna go for some executive MBA or online one which could help me with my long term career. Some points:
1. I am not looking for placement assistance and i'm currently at a good salary. So looking for no immediate benefits.
2. I have never prepared for CAT. So i am looking for institue where entrance is simple or maybe no entrance.
3. I do not want anything more than 2 years as it would restrict my onsite oppur and company switching.(1-1.5 years preff).
3. I have explored many options. Some of them are like:
FMS/IIT-D/IIM-L part time: All are 3 years.
4. Also currently my CV looks impressive and i wanna add MBA degree to it but considering my B.TECH if i go with Sybiosis/IMT ghz/Manipal etc , it will downgrade my CV(Acc to me).
5. I studies about the hughes net/niit imperia courses too with IIM's/XLRI/IIT's etc but they are not worth it. As its a certificate course.
Would request people to give suggestions considering the aboe points i have mentioned. Thanks all.!!

Your 12th marks would be a deterrent in terms of fetching you call from few IIMs...with the changing criteria each year, it is tough to name the IIMs from where you won't get a call ...though B and L i think would be hard for you unless you score exceptionally well. In non IIMs, your chances for SPJain are minimal unless you have extremely good extracurrics.

All the options which you have written above have their own pros and cons. It is the time when you should be clear of your career objectives and take the decision accordingly.
If TISS is more important for building a career for you, then get onsite thing cancelled and attend TISS and keep SEBI job as backup ..... if you think going onsite is more important for you, go for the latter then.
No one can suggest you as career priorities are different for all.. it is you who have to decide that MBA interview call or onsite.

Well, seeing the unpredictability of MBA exams and B-Schools these days, i would suggest to join the job and prepare for MBA simultaneously... this would help you to gain experience as well which can be leveraged for MBA as well plus provide you with a back up if god forbid you cannot get through MBA in coming year.

I do not know you are talking wrt what future prospects ... but if it related to prospects in mba when you sit for gdpi ... then, it won't hamper your prospects, what matters is what kind of role and responsibilities you had in your company...no matter big or small... though better brand has its advantage, being from small company is not a disadvantage.

I am currently pursuing an MBA (MMS) degree and have to choose my specialization within a week's time. I am quite confused between finance and marketing. My inclination is towards Marketing since the idea of Branding, Product development, Market research etc. excites me a lot and Balancesheets, P/L accounts etc dont.
However, I am a person who would not enjoy a job which involves too much of moving about from one place to another. And my perception of marketing is that it involves just that, because I feel that Marketing involves a lot of sales and that is something I would not be very much interested in doing. I don't feel that I will be bad at sales, but its just that I don't enjoy too much of traveling and moving about. So I may probably enjoy a job profile which requires me to visit the field once in a while, but which majorly involves working from the office. Hence I am confused about whether I should go for Marketing or not.
So requesting people who have a knowledge (and experience) of the various job profiles in marketing to please guide me on whether I should go for Marketing, and which profiles would suit me based on what I have stated above. Would also be thankful if someone can describe the various profiles available in mktg.

1. B.E. (CSE, 2009 passout) - 67 % 
2. 10th - 83.xx % , 12th - 82.xx % 
3. Working as IT Security Consultant (MNC) ; Exp - 18 Months till date
Dilemma : Joined company in July 2009.. was in no mood to write CAT 2009 (and did'nt write it finally)a s i had to concentrate on Job... although i didn't put in any extra efforts. but yeah i was sincere.. got promoted twice so far... but not substantial progress in terms of package.. getting avg. package.. Came Jan 2010.. joined TIME Delhi .. and since my focus was totally on CAT (my first attempt).. i didn't focus much on my job.. (viz . did no technical certification for further growth)... and results are
CAT'10 -
OA - 75.xx %ile , VA - 95.xx , QA- 75.xx & DI - 17.xx 
(attempted only 6 Q's due to time mismanagement)
XAT - OA - 90 %ile , VA - 93.xx , QA - 75.xx , DI/LR - 73.xx (missed sectional & OA cut-off by 1.xx %ile) 
FMS - Missed cut-off by miles 
IIFT - got 27 marks 
Now.. family wants me to change job as the company isn't paying handsome amount...but i want to continue in this company (as workload is not much & i get ample time to prepare + good profile)and give CAT '11 and other B-schools exams one more chance.. want to take admission in top 10 B-schools only.. didn't even write SNAP , NMAT last yr.. not filled NITIE, MDI forms.. However.. as i know myself.. as i'll go for CAT'11 (i confess that i had not given my 100 % last yr)... i would ignore my job once again.. no certifications.. no job related training ..wud do nothin.. but then i do not want to be left bewildered like now by the end of this yr again... with no calls and no apraisal @ Job...please suggest me somthing good...
