Hi,
I need some help regarding the selection of b-schools.

Although I have not got any selection call, I am confused whether to join any of these colleges with 2 years experience.
Can someone please help me with this as what shud be my preferences among these(for sure IMT is at top)?

Hi..
I am pursuing my final year of B.Tech in Comp.Sc. and Engineering. Have got a CGPA of 8.34 out of 10. Recently got placed in TCS as Assistant Systems Engineer.
Also, appeared for CAT 2010 and scored 96.98 percentile (min. sectional in quant=78.
and highest in di = 99.9). With this skewed percentile obviously didnt get a call from ANY IIM. I have applied to IMT Ghaziabad and BIM Trichy.
(Had also sat for MAT exam and got 98.38 percentile and applied to Amity)
My acads read:
90.8% in Class X and 93% in Class XII from ICSE Board
Some of my friends are telling me to go for TCS and pursue executive MBA later, whereas some are telling to join IMT G or BIM Trichy if I get through.
Feeling confused, more so as my decision is going to affect my family's economic condition. :drinking:
Which is the better prospect? Kindly help me out here please!!
You may also suggest any other options that I can look forward to, given my acads..

bro. i can totally understand your situation.... I have been in the same boat for most of my life...
You have 2 options to choose from.. And I think its quite an easy decision actually.
Option 1: MBA from IMT-G or BIM-T : Dont even think about it... You have great acads, decent CAT score in your first attempt and to top it all, you have a job offer from TCS... An year or so later, you will still have great acads, plus some Work-ex, and hopefully a better CAT score. So go for ....
Option 2: Join TCS. Earn some money, get some work-ex, study hard for a better CAT score (or XAT or FMS or IIFT etc) .
Hope i was able to help.
Hello Everyone
There is a question which is troubling me a lot, I will be very happy if I can get any valuable feedback on it.
Let me describe my self, I am a software Engg with a work exp of 3.5 yrs in PL/SQL (Banking Domain) and currently I have switched a new company where I am learning and working on Oracle Apps (Finance: AP, PO). I am planning for my MBA next year from top 10 institute in India. Now here are my questions:
PS: I love traveling across the globe, so i would prefer a job which includes lots of traveling. I am good in Public Relation and good in communication.
1. How is the market demand for Oracle Apps?
2. Will Oracle Apps in Supply Chain Mangmnt will help me get a job which is more of client facing and traveling?
3. Should I go for MBA Operations or MBA Marketing. And will 2yrs MBA help me or 1 yr will do the needful to work as a Oracle Apps Functional?
At the end i would like to end up as an Oracle Apps Functional consultant but i am not sure which stream will help me.
Thanks
Rohan
I am pursuing engineering, currently in final year ,rather the final semester.
I know mostly people go for an M.B.A or an M.S. after engineering, but none of these seem to appeal to me as much as pursuing a degree in law does.
In fact Law is something that I always wanted to do, but just somehow landed up doing engineering because of having a way too cavalier approach to the whole career issue.
But now I am kind of in a pickle because I really want to pursue Law but having pursued an entirely different course at graduation level, I seem to be not knowing how to go about it.
I am NOT keen on the IPR thing which I know that is an option for engineering graduates, especially now with the IPR law programme at IITKGP.
I am more so keen on pursuing the Law in its entirety, whether that be civil or criminal or corporate.
I would highly appreciate if anyone could help me in this regard, as to what options I can avail of.
Thanks
ENGINEERING --> FINANCE
Hey.. Need some suggestions/help/GUIDANCE..
Background: I did my Masters in Computer Networking from a US university and have been working as a Computer Networking Engineer in the US for about 2 years now..
I will be trying to get into an MBA school this year.. I am interested to focus in Finance.. However, having no prior experience in Finance Sector, I am worried if this is a crazy decision..
Has anyone of you shifted from Engineering world to Finance?? If yes, how was the transition like??
My question is in such a scenario what type of job can I end up getting after completion of MBA..?? Honestly, I don't care about the salary but the work which I will be involved with..
My plan is to do an MBA Finance in US/Canada and then shift my base to India.. Has anybody had such experience??
I gave CFAl1 in Dec'10 and will be writing CFAL2 in July'11 to gain some insight into the Finance world.
Suggestions...??

Suggesting from indian perspective ... there are good number of engineers every year in india who shift to finance domain after few years of work experience in engineering, then mba and then career in finance. Many of these people have achieved good heights in career as well.
CFA will surely strengthen your case while you apply for a job in finance and as far as profiles are concerned, depending on the college from where you pursue MBA and the companies you apply for, profiles might vary from i-banking, treasury, corporate finance, project finance to banking operations.
hope this helps!

Hi All .. I was with TCS for 3.5 years before taking a sabbatical to pursue my MBA from SIBM (Batch 2009-11)
I am almost done with my MBA (it would end in march 2011). I am majoring in Finance. Prior to this, i was working for projects under GE infra vertical in TCS.
Can anyone suggest me as to what are the likely profile openings that would be available to me when i join back TCS next month? I am interested in taking up BA/Consultant roles in the BFSI vertical.
Also if possible, i would appreciate if i get a fair idea of the likely compensation package range that i may fetch given my experience and educational background.
comments from people who have been there and done that would be immensely useful for ppl like me and others who have taken similar paths
Help
I've got calls from SIBM-P FMS IIM I
I'm interested in doing my MBA in Oprtns Mngmnt
how would you rank these three in Ops???

Yes, the chances of profile which you are interested are very good once you join TCS back... very high probability of Business Analyst role getting offered to you and they would try to keep you in BFSI only .... however, as you also know about IT industry that everything depends on their current projects as well.... however, you would be working as business analyst or in business development only :)
As far as compensation is concerned, it would be in the range of 7.5 - 9.5 lpa.... though, there might be a slight variation as per the sabbatical policies of TCS.

Comparison of colleges is not allowed so i won't rank the colleges....
As far as your interest in the field is concerned, operations management is a term getting widely replaced by the term ' supply chain management' in most of the sectors .... the specialization has good career prospects as India moves towards becoming a developed economy .... and this is the time when companis have started looking at it as a profit building centre rather than just cost cutting centre within organization.
For other details about colleges, feel free to PM.
Thanks for you info...
I had talked with my HR and they too said the same about the profile (ie BA/Consultant) etc... Regarding compensation package offered they said it could be negotiated based on the profile being offered, college from which MBA is done and previous work ex etc...
Anybody in this forum who has gone back to TCS in this route? If yes, you may add further on the compensation part....

I need some help. I have two job offers in my hand one is of a business analyst at Mu Sigma and one is as a Software engineer in a product development IT firm. The salaries are comparable with both jobs being at Bangalore. I am a B.Tech in computer science(2006-2010 batch). I want to know what sort of growth I can look forward to in Mu Sigma bcoz people have told me that it analytics is a good profile if u have MBA as your long term option. Also can I switch back to pure IT later i.e after working for Mu Sigma as a business analyst for sometime or should I go for a developer profile from the beginning. Please advice urgently as I have to take a call soon. Thanks in advance.
