Hello Puys,
I could really use your help at the moment. I graduated in Mechanical Engineering in May-June 2010. And right now I work in this company called Mohsin Haider Darwish in Oman. They're a large scale trading company in the GCC (Gulf Sector) and deal with a lot of products like Luxury automotives (Jaguar, Range Rover), commerical vehicles (Volvo, Ashok Leyland), Engineering equipment, Building materials, Tyres and batteries, Gases chemicals and medical equipments, Computers, Electronics, and some Infotech. I was offered a position of a management trainee in this company during November and I accepted immediately as I got the offer. What they offered to me was that I would be trained for 3 months and then I would be rotated through the various divisions and then finally placed in one division according to where they needed me. Initially thought that this would be really valuable exposure as this company deals with a lot of different products in their various divisions and the pay was pretty good too. But now i'm beginning to get worried. At the end of the day this was just a massive trading company. They do no manufacturing here. They import they're goods directly from europe and sell it over here. They are the only representatives for some of the brands they franchise in entire oman so they also deal with sales, marketing, installation, aftersales and parts. And most of the departments i'll be rotated through i'll have to deal with the sales aspect of the product. How good is sales experience for a student looking forward to doing his Mba. Now I wouldnt be worried if I was in the sales division of the parent company persay like say Ashok Leyland or Volvo. But these guys are just resellers. Doesnt that make them like a dealership ? and does such sales experience add to my resume ? I was initially planning to work here for a year before I could write my CFA and NCFM modules to break into the Finance market. Now i'm really worried if i'm wasting my time over here. What do i do ?? Any insight from you experienced and knowledgable guys could really really help me out here. Thanks in advance.

Hi people...
I quit my job to prep for mba entrances...but didnt get any calls n have failed miserably.
Now i want to get a job asap and try again next year...
My confusion is -
I was trained on job for Java as well as for SAP-ABAP.
Though i hav worked on a supprt project for 4-6 months in SAP, i dont really have gud knowledge of SAP.
I have decent skills in java , but no proper project exp..
I have overall 1.4 yrs of job experience.. but nothing significant to write in the resume...
What shld i mention in my resume ? Stress on Java (since i wld like to get a job in that) or SAP ?
Please help !!
You must have made a backup plan in case you didnt get admission to mba when you left the job...

Never thought i ll land in this kind of situation....here goes my story...
i am a 2009 passout electrical engineer from a reputed colg in mumbai.....in my final yr i had got placed in a very good MNC.....with a dream of MBA back of my minf i joint the company in July 2009....the job ws real hectic being a shop floor one.....so no real time to study + the field in which i ws working ws not related to wht i intend to pursue ( i am a MBA marketing aspirant)...Due to lack of time ( or for whtever reasons)...i could not write CAT 2009 n other exams.....finally came late august 2010....with 14 months of experience under my belt...i decided to quit my existing job n concentrate on MBA exams..( cant say it ws a bad decision as i was not enjoying the kind of work i ws doing)
Now comes the dilemma.....i have been ditched by all major exams this season...( Cat hurts the most....ws prepared like anythin for it....baki sab were missed by a whisker.... XAT toh killed me...never had any hopes frm tht)....the only hope i have MHCET...but as everyone knows..getting JB is difficult thn getting IIM A.....eveb though i m scoring heavily in my mocks...i want to prepare for the worst....tht i do not land up in either JB or sydenham.....
So in tht case , i ll do a job for another yr....i have posted my profile on naukri.com......however i wish to switch the area of my functionality....but naukari.com is giving me only those option related to my previous exp....
So what are other options for me ...where i can apply for jobs......sorry to ask such childish questions...but really i dunno..cauz i never did this struggle as i had a ready jib after my college.......
Hello everyone,
Could anyone who is already in IIM or in one of the Top-20 B-Schools tell me
1.What is the % of people with more that 3 yrs exp in IT field in these B-Schools.
2.What kind of job roles are these people offered.Because I have been hearing that most of the people from such background are being given IT Consultant Jobs. Is it True?. If so how will the career be in an IT Consultant job

1. The percentage would be anywhere between 10 to 20 %
2. These people could get into most of the roles, there is no restriction. But in some cases, they prefer to get into consulting firms (general or IT) because that is where their experience is given importance resulting in a senior role at the firm

Thank you Vinay.Could you also throw some light on how the career will be as an IT Consultant, and also what does it mean by General Management what kind of role do they play in the organisation.
Thanks once again in advance
