Plz reply on my post as well....plz plz
Hi Friends
I am in desperate need for advice.
I am working in a IT company HCL for past 1.5 years now and I am interested in doing MBA from a reputed college.
In order to concentrate on my preparation for CAT2011 and GMAT exam I am considering a decision to leave my current job
and get myself involved with an NGO as it will give me two benefits :
1) More time for preparation as it will be less taxing as compared to present job.
2) It will give me a different kind of profile and it may also help in case I want to apply for GMAT coz I ve herd that foreign Univ. take NGO experience in good stead.
Am I making a right decision ? or should I continue to work with HCL till CAT2011 .

PS: I am not interested in furthering my career in IT and I wont get a Job in any other Field.
As you wish mate , i know all about IT, i had almost 3 years of work ex at Infosys and was leading a team , last year while preparing for CAT , used to work on weekends and from 8am to 10 pm everyday , use to stay back at home to prepare for CAT till 2 am everyday , as i neither had the comfort of a laptop nor internet , sometimes use to give mock cats in cybercafes as well
if you want you can do anything in life mate , but i am sure you know whats best for you
All d best
I appreciate you for ur work..And i have read ur post in AIWTSAC and i'm dying to write in that thread one day....par khud ko is layak banana chahta hun.. Ab CAT ko crack karne ka soch liya hai...Won't budge... JMET this was a borderline case .Got 67/120. Missed general cut-off by 3 marks..All others exams are on same track....Even got 93 percentile last time without any preparation...Even this year I was under-prepared .Started preparation only in October due to job training and posting...I seriously feel i have the aptitude to crack CAT..Bas 4-5 months ka solid preparation aur mock tests seriously de dun to i hope l could be a strong contender for IIMs next year...All i want is to keep myself motivated...But i'm sure it won't be that easy in my present job...BTW,Thank you for your advice... and 3 yrs in infosys ...working on weekends.????...whoo....You are a real superstar....

HI @ abhimukh 19
Plz reply on my post as well....plz plz
Bro its very personal choice , working for a NGO is not that easy as it seems , but again depends on the type of NGO , one works for :)
And yes lot of aspirants have started going for NGOs , as far as differentiating your profile is considered , it may not be true
Another way you may justify your gap by doing certifications like CFA,FRM, CFP, if you are interested in finance or may be going for NCFM certfications , that will definetly differentiate your profile but yes again these are not easy certifications to clear
Bro i am always averse of risking a job and trying for MBA , my friend left his job 6 months back to prepare for CAT , he was not in IT but in a manufacturing firm , he could not manage both and resigned , he got 86%tile in 2009 and might not get even 86%tile this year , and is planning to join a BPO , to prepare for CAT 2011 but then again there are a few people who have made it big , after quiting , so its a very personal decision
Coaching Institute is the best alternative as you remain in touch with subjects and remain focussed
If you truly believe you can do well after quiting IT , then yes go for it , but please dont consider life is ever going to be easy while doing MBA or Post MBA, i would say , stress management is all these B schools teach us , whether its submitting assignments at middle of the night or conducting 8 exams in 4 days , you need to handle pressure well 😃
SENIORS, PLEASE HELP
MY Didi has been selected in
INFOSYS,ACCENTURE & IBM...
She is in her final semester in btech computer science.
My father always wanted to see my didi in IIMs, but my father expired last year and now bcz of financial problems, she wants to join company, so
its my request to all plz tell which company will be the best, bcz i just want to see her in happy mood, i dnt want to see her living with stress of office,
She wants to join Infosys bcz of reputation, but i want your honest opinions friends which company should she join,
also tell me, what shud she do to be a part of IIMs, she didn't fill papers like FMS,JMET & SNAP but she appeared in CAT and waiting for result.
her profile is
X-94.3
XII- 98.2
Btech- till 6th semester- 9.6/10.... and muje didi pe bharosa hai ki her overall percentage/cgpa wagarah wagarah will be more than 9.5 at the end of this semester.
pls suggest dosto, I'll tel her.
first of all, its so sweet of u to post this for ur didi.
i m not a senior but i can suggest something as m a hardcore forum reader.
1>i would suggest her to go to TCS, CTS or IBM as stress is less dere.
2> seeing the awesome profile of ur didi, IIM's is a must. she deserves dem.
and dont worry about the finances, all provide scholarships for 2nd year. for the toppers of 1st yr.
and dont worry about topping an IIM as well.
after taking education loan(say 10lacs) one ca easily repay it, seeing the placements people get in ABC XL etc.(FMS is a jackpot for her)
and for education loan one only had to pay ONLY 5% OF THE LOAN AMOUNT.
i.e. 50k only.
last the but not the least is summer internships(esp in ABC, XL etc)
more than 30% people get foreign highly paid internships.
it can also ease the amount of loan substantially.
so cracking a Evy league B-school is a must for her caliber.
give my regards to her,
for her such brilliance and for having such a caring bro.
PS: i doubt these companies will take her. coz dey hire only average or above average people, and she is no doubt above that.

Now i will be completing a year in 2 months time, should i continue my job or should I leave the job for CAT study?this job has no prospects as i earn INR 12572 p.m

Double Post.
this is shwetali...
i am currently in my final year of IT engg from mumbai university with 54% aggregate.
i wanted to know if cdac course is really worth doing?
is there anything which will combine my creativity with my IT background?
plzzzzzzzzzz help
i didn't understand the part where you say that one has to pay 5% of the amount only... Could you please elaborate?
Thanks!
actually, lets say fee for the b-school is 10lacs. and u want all of it to be financed.
but the bank will only give 95% of the fee. i.e. 9.5lacs. and the rest 50k shud be paid by u.
this 5% is the margin.
for Indian colgs its 5% margin.
and for foreign colgs its 15-25%.
hope this helps.
As it is a carrer dilemma related forum, i expect my ambiguities be clarified here. I am a 2010(B.Tech) passout working as a software engineer in bhubaneswar since last seven months. Now i want to prepare well for CAT 2011. But as we know s/w engineers in private firms need to work for 10 hrs., i hardly get time to study. I now think of going for 'bank po' as it is a job of 7-8 hrs and i can get some time for studies. But i am afraid if it wud affect my profile adversely and if a profile with some work in IT and some in a bank as assistant manager wud soothe the eyes of interviewers while admission into b-schools and while placement at b-schools?? 2 more things abt me which i think i need to tell to get apt suggestions :- 1) I hate sitting infront of a dumb box for hours and coding does not excite me at all. 2) I took CAT 09 as an appearing candidate and cud fetch 94%ile. one call fm SIBM pune through SNAP (cudn't convert). No CAT 10(wasn't mentally prepared for it due to work).Seniors and peers, please suggest.

NO, you are making WRONG decision!
1. "I am not interested in furthering my career in IT" You should have decided 1.5 years back...I know a whole lot of junta join IT and then desperate to leave, I always advice freshers not to join IT field in the first place.
In your case changing careers will go against you.
2. NGO work ex is worse than IT Work-ex. It just feels good listening the word NGO.
3. CAT is not to leave the job and prepare...CAT is to be in the job and crack. It is very unpredictable exam...
4. GMAT and CAT are very different. First decision should be where you want to do MBA from? GMAT requires work-ex as compulsory. How can you thought of leaving HCL?

I think you should go for the bank PO job. reasons:
1. You dont like working in IT
2. If finance is your interest and if you want a finance profile post MBA, this could be an ideal starting point
3. Also, you will get more time to prepare for the MBA entrance exams

Your notion of 'bank po' job is of 7-8 hours is not correct :lookround:
Bank PO during probation are posted at various locations and if you shift your job, you will take a few months to settle down, by the time CAT would be near you.
Just try to squeeze time out of your schedule.
Preparing daily for 2 hours and giving mocks during weekends will be sufficient enough as you already seem to have fundamentals in place (94 percentile )
Puys....Please help me with this query of mine...
I did my B.Tech in Information Technology and graduated on Aug 2010. But I did not take up any job in the hope of getting a good B-school as I was getting good percentiles in mock exams...so decided to give my full effort and concentration to CAT.
But after getting the CAT results on 12th January, I was shocked and devastated...I never imagined I would get such a low percentile after performing reasonable well in the exam...
Now I am clueless on what to do...
I neither have a job now nor I can get into a good B-school with this percentile...
My reluctance to take up a job was because of my lack of interest in programming/ coding ....
Can you guys please help me and suggest me what to do now ??
Will I be able to find a job which does not demand programming/ coding ??
Please help me Puys...I'm extremely sad and clueless...
My profile :
Xth -- 77.00%
XIIth -- 68.00%
B.Tech(I.T) -- 8.27 out of 10.
Please help.

It all depends on your "CHOICE"..there are guys
1.doing mba after just after college
2.doing mba after dropping a year
3.doing mba while in job
4.doing mba by resigning from job and preparing
How can anyone say your choice is justified or not?
if you are really passionate to do mba then just do it.
considering you are asking "should i do mba right now" that means you will join any out of 20 institute..So it is better if you take work ex and prepare for next year.
But if you are getting any top 20 institute this year itself then choose what you want to choose

I would suggest you to start preparing for CAT now itself and get an admission whenever you crack CAT...
Cracking CAT isnt a mean task and there is no guarantee that you would be able to do it after 2 years of work ex, when the responsiblity is a lot higher.
If you have made up your mind about doing MBA, then I would suggest you to go for it from now itself, instead of postponing the things......
