Well..that would depends on your priority and options you have right now.
Now If you don't have any job right now,I'll suggest you to join SBI and then simultaneously prepare for the GD/PIs of different colleges.I guess there would be some joining bond(in money tem) of SBI.You can on any day chuck/break the bond after you get a final convert in IIFT or for that matter any other top 20 MBA colleges of INDIA.IIFT is a great B-school and brand. You you can convince your parents about this plan.Hope this works for you!!
*Personally I would have given my 100% for IIFT.Its really a gr8 college to be in!!:thumbsup:

by cs i guess u mean company secretary...if that is so its nowhere related to mba...company secretary course is normally done by Chartered Accountants(CAs) as an add-on course....

if by CS u mean something else pls ignore....Msc(IT) i have no idea...

i would suggest if possible join some job and simulataneously prepare for mba....coz a break will be a dampener in ur MBA interviews....

if u still insist on break(which i would strongly discourage)..if u want to go for mba finance u can try cfa/frm but that would be costly and competitive option....

finally decide on 1 goal and follow that path..PM me in case ur queries still not resolved...
I am Engg student final year
I am good at coding and gadgets. (Computers is my passion )
I have given CAT and MBA paper this
year
but i am not sure i might crack a good college this year

nExt month i would be sitting for campus placements

Though i feel i would be selected in one of the IT companies visiting my colleges (infosys/tcs/hcl/accenture) bcoz of good academic and tecnical skills

so I wish to ask is MBA right for me?
Being a fresher should i go for it or get some work ex first?
Shold i focus on IT & SYSTEMS MBA specialization or other fields?

seriously awaiting replies

Hi Puys,

I want to do a course in finance ,especially in investing banking say for about 3 months before i kick start my MBA .
Can you suggest any kind of these courses ?

Hi Puys,

I want to do a course in finance ,especially in investing banking say for about 3 months before i kick start my MBA .
Can you suggest any kind of these courses ?

Why MBA?
this question has been bothering me since a long time ....and everytime i come up with a new perspective of mine....which has been on both sides......the two moods i feel are
1>encourages me to move ahead with zeal and enthusiasm towards my goal
2>forget about it....it isn't meant for you

i am an MBBS graduate currently in my 4th year
one day came onto a thread "MBA after MBBS" on PG while i was searching for career options after my medical degree
the medical life(studies) hasn't been enjoyable for me....though i had a great time making genuine friends for the first time
as i went deep into finding more about what MBA really is.....at points i felt i should back off.....the fears that i faced were
what will my parents say.....what will everyone think.....no one will support me
but the biggest one were "personality" and temperament" issues that feared me the most

its been a couple of months and these are the true answers as to why i want to do an MBA

1.to change my line of work

2.to do something creative and new in life rather than following regular protocol that comes tied with medical profession
3.i have the will to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals (to begin with clearing CAT)

3.this one may sound odd
but since childhood i haven't been much of a social icon; no leadership oriented tasks; no debate competitions under my belt
in fact i have not really been a public interaction based person....to sum up a "shy" fellow
though i have had a fairly good academic record
X-87% XII-86% (CBSE) and a few Olympiad and NTSE cert.
everyone says that one should have these skills to be a manger ,only then he can succeed.
that brings me to the 3rd reason
i aspire to be the person that i am not.....i see it as an opportunity for me to change.
these wont be possible if i stick to what i am doing right now

and
4.i see myself happy on the other side.

i request the experts to comment on my reasons and thoughts

thank you

Buddy,

Instead of going for any short duration course, i would suggest you to go for CFA certification.... it's the most respected certification when it comes to investment banking arena....

for more details on same, you can refer to threads here cfa Threads - Forum Tags by Zoints and official website here https://www.cfainstitute.org/Pages/index.aspx

Buddy,

Sorry to say but you seem to be too much confused within your thoughts... they seem to be fluctuating in every direction.... i will suggest to sit alone with a cool mind and try to introspect .... try to identify your true career objective and where do you want to see yourself few years down the line ... and then try to correlate both MBA and medical profession with it and see which one is more aligned.

Few pointers as per your doubts above:
1. Atleast 50% of the managerial jobs are also monotonous , you can realize this when you talk to people who have done MBA and have been in industry.

2. There are people who are not satisfied with the opportunities they have post MBA, because they did not select proper specialization as per their interests.

3. More you can align MBA with your career goals, more you will enjoy studying it as well as while job..so it's most important to know yourself before yo decide in favor of or against doing MBA.

4. There have been people who have achieved great heights in medical profession and displayed great leadership skills being in the profession ... one does not need to be an MBA to be a leader nor does an MBA guarantees that one will possess leadership skills.

5. Creativity and something new can be achieved being in medical profession as well as being an MBA ... the efforts to be put vary ... in medical profession, it may come up after harder efforts in comparison to the efforts required after doing MBA.

6. Do not think that people will support you or not... do not let people around you deter from putting efforts for what you want to achieve in life... people might oppose initially but later all will stand by you :)

Buddy,

There have been many debates on whether one should go for an MBA as a fresher or after gaining work experience... there are certain advantages of both the camps and similarly certain disadvantages.

Coming to your situation, as you say that this year CAT did not go well, i will suggest to crack a job as all the companies you have mentioned are reputed in IT world ...do not drop a year... join job and prepare simultaneously for MBA if you decide to go for it ....

Once you spend time in IT , then you will be in a better position to correlate your abilities and career interests and would be able to realize that whether you should go for MBA or not.... one CAT failure doesn't mean that MBA is not meant for you.

Hope this helps 😃

sir first of all i would like to say that this decision is very crucial as it would define rest of my life......and i am taking it very seriously maybe this is why i sound confused

i have been introspecting a lot in the last few months .....and most of the time i found myself drifting towards the MBA option
i have talked to some of my medical seniors who did or are doing there MBA from reputed institutes
i asked them about how a post MBA life was and about the curriculum......it all made me want to do it

you asked me to picture my future and then decide what i should do but the truth is that i dont know what will make me happier in the future
the doctor's life is satisfactory but i am not interested in the theory portion .............many times i have tried to give in my best but i cant concentrate after a while and my mind starts to wander (still cant believe how i ended up here)
i have been an above avg. student my entire life but now i have been reduced to a struggling average one desperate to just somehow pass the exams

while an MBA life is full of all other opportunities (finance is something i like) i can change my line of work enter into another entirely new field but i fear for what if it doesn't turn out to be the way i picture it

from what i know there have been people who have embarked on the path of MBA having something else in mind and they have come out different from what they expected
not everyone knows what life they want in life or what will make them more happier but still life has to move on and decisions have to be taken

I got paced in L&T; infotech thru campus placement at my college on 20th December. My joining will be in July 2011.

Is it a good company?

Does anyone have any info rearding where do they send the freshers for training, Is it Mysore?
What is the duration of this training?
They said the package will be 3 LPA. Will it be raised aftr training?
I shall be thankful for ur response.

L&T; Infotech is a decent IT company and growing at a good pace. Generally, the package announced during recruitment is the one which you get after training.

Location of training will be mentioned in your offer letter which you will get in due course of time 😃 however, to the best of my knowledge, only IT company providing training in Mysore is Infosys... probably, L&T; should sen you to some other place because there is a rare chance of their training infrastructure being present in Mysore.

However, i will suggest to wait for some more time as all these details will be mentioned in your offer letter... :)

All the best

the ans u've figured out are perfect...but mould the 1st point out of the 3 in a better way...

as regards ur personality traits these can be cultivated - dont worry...
u will find ur way....

only 1 thing...prepare for mba alongwith some job or the other...dont go for a break or something....
so that u've options at hand

I have completed by Btech in computer science engg. I am presently working in Infosys as a systems engineer.I had training in JAVA, oracle and web application development. But since then i was put into an Infosys banking product called Finacle.. I have not written or read a line of code since then .. I am presently onsite at Lagos,Nigeria handling implementation, data migration, support of Finacle...This involves writing a few very simple queries and rest is all very product specific work..it doesnt involve working in any technology..

I am planning to quit the company on August 2011 when i will have completed my 2 years...Out of that 1 year i will be onsite experience...Am researching on different courses, but still no abate to the confusion...

I am not so overtly good at programming(just average...courtesy to a screwed up btech ) ... I do not want to study a generalised masters in computer science(there are some subjects tht give me nightmares still ) ...but there are some subjects like databases, web application development using java that i am interested in ... but i could not find any specialised masters in my google searhes ...if any of u have any inputs regarding this , please feel free...

I will lay down some of the other options that i came upon ..

1)MBA from UK .. but the problem is most of the reputed universities require atleast 3 years of experience ... so some pointers to some good UK universities requiring just 2 years of exp wud b helpful... I understand tht MBA should be preferred by much more experienced professionals... but neverthless tht is an option in front of me ...

2)MSc programs in UK donot require any experience ... But i am in serious doubt whether the masters will have as much relevance as an MBA ,even from a middle grade university ... I have some MSc programs in mind... but almost all of the programs i have chosen are not something related to computers ...Some of the programs are:
a)University of warwick --> Masters in engineering business management(This is a programme that is catered to the core engineering field... i chose this because of my interest in working in a automotive, shipping, transport industry .. that domain is actually my area of interest..)

b)University of warwick --> Masters in Finance (As banking is my current domain)

c)University of Leeds --> Msc in Banking and Finance(i thought my experience would count )

d) University of York(City University London also provides one such course) -->MSc in Human-Centred Interactive Technologies (HCIT) ..its very specialised and involves some serious money ...And i have no idea about the scope, the job opportunitites, the recognition of this course ...

Also i browsed through some of the courses mentioned in the 'BEYOND MBA' thread ... I was especially drawn into supply chain and logistics courses just coz of the chance to work in shipping, automotive industries ...

Is there some specific masters in IT or any specific certifications , for domains like automobile, shipping, airline etc ?? Apart from that getting into a banks technical team might be another option for me ???

or the least preferred option I could wait for one more year so tht i complete my 3 years of exp and then again look for a well recognised MBA abroad(but the catch is , i donno if i would be able to quit the job after one more year... my profile is as of now very limited as all of my experience lies in that specific product .. And i dont know if i am really into MBA or is i suited for me ...

You might think i am very confused ... Yes , i am

Please feel free to criticise, suggest, advice ... Your opinions are highly valued..

Well L&T; is a decent company and a good back up option , but incase you have other options do go for them , it has lost some of its biggest clients like WAMU and Lehman brothers in recession which was a huge set back for them but the company is regaining its lost glory now , but would still tell you think about it more , i guess they have a 2 year bond , i had an offer from L&T; infotech few years back ,

Regarding training: back then training was scheduled in their Mumbai Facility , near Navi Mumbai to be more precise

They have a campus opposite to Infosys Campus in Mysore , but 2 years ago it was not developed enough to conduct training programs

In all its a good back up option , do check if they still have the two year bond clause

All d best 😃

Hi Puys
I have done B-tech in Computer Science( 2010 pass out)72%
I couldn't get placed from college nor from off-campus.
The offer I got was BPO. I was not interested in that.
Another Reason being I didn't tried so didn't succeeded in any, as my mind was revolving around
to do master/to study more
Ms/M-tech was no to me as I decided that I don't want to go in technical anymore(It good to be a gardener than a bad engineer+ my progg sucks big time)

The only viable option I thought was MBA. Since 3 rd year when i heard there is some exam named CAT" I was into it very much. Got study material but couldn't keep it side by side with studies.

So I joined coaching in july after completing B-tech and gave the major exams
But I was not able to cope with the complexity of competition.I gave CAT,IIFT,FMS,JMET,SNAP.
Also getting news of friends getting placed in good companies pissed me off very much.

My question is If I don't get selected in a good college, then what I should do?( as there is no point in doing it from a bad college)

1. Should I go for job Hunt, get placed, gain some experience and then come back to hit exams
or
2. I go on full length preparation of exams and give all the exams.

hi all,
I have been selected by Infosys and Cognizant through campus recruitment. So,keeping in mind that I want to pursue an MBA ultimately, next year if my results are not satisfactory this year, accepting which company should be wiser?Infy is offering 3.25Lpa with abt 14k during training, while cognizant is offering 3Lpa with 20k during training which will probably be in my hometown Kolkata.
So I would like to know which company is it advisable to join

AFAIK, infy has a very rigorous training program at mysore for 6-8 months where you'll get no time for anything else, u even hav tests on sundays and there is a bond whose amount keeps increasing with every month in training.

if u join infy, u can say bye bye to CAT for next yr.

however, infy is good for people who want to work in IT for longer period as the training is very much valued in industry.

if u r looking for MBA within next 2-3yrs, i think CTS will be better 4 u as there's no bond, high chances of kolkata posting, no relocation stress, and more time for CAT prep.

pls verify all these info from other sources. there's a thread for infy queries named infosys joining ... blah blah, get to know about life at infy training there.

for more info abt life at CTS kolkata u can try finding a user on PG named skr_14, and here's another employee called soumillya chandra, i've his FB link: Soumillya Chandra | Facebook
