I have planned for CFA next year not sure whether to give in june or december, i wanted to know whether there are any other certifications i can attain to improve my portfolio, atleast to differentiate it from others
I also have plans for Fellowship or an executive MBA from any good foreign university ,to get some international exposure and i am planning to do it 4-5 years from now , so is this option viable and will this step add value to my career
Two of the most popular certificates across B-Schools among finance enthusiasts are CFA & FRM. CFA is preferred by guys who want to build career in investment banking or similar profiles whereas FRM is preferred by guys who want to get into risk management and similar profiles. I will suggest to take CFA level 1 in june and then go ahead and try to clear CFA Level 2 being in IMI itself.
Before going for fellowship or executive MBA, it's better to clear the certifications and take relevant work experience in the finance sector and strengthen your chances for a better college and ultimately a better profile once you complete your executive MBA.

there are quite a few certifications to boost your profile .. but what exactly is your interest?is it Investment banking ? is it risk management ? is it general finance profile ? is it treasury ? .. for each and every thing there is a certification ..
CFA is good if your making shift to finance for sure .. give it in june only if u r giving as L2 needs hell a lot of prep :)
second thing u have mentioned is purely optional and that comes into picture after 2 years after u complete MBA 😃
Puys.. I am currently pursuing bachelors of business economics from the University of Delhi.. 79.5% till date(2nd yr)..
I have two job offers at hand.. one is a profile of a research associate at an mnc, which employs 4500+ ppl.. salary in-hand of around 30k per month.. though the designation is that of a research associate, the work involves mere data entry, surfing the net, googling info, etc etc..
The other offer is from a start up(just an yr old) financial advisory firm, which has an employee base of just around 7-8 ppl + 6 of us expected to join by june.. the profile is that of a business development executive.. my work will be to market customised portfolios and also track clients for the same.. salary will be around 17k per month, plus the incentives
As of now, I am confused about what specialisation to choose for my mba- marketing or finance.. Economics is my fav subject, but MA eco is certainly out of the picture..
Seniors, plz suggest me what to do.. which offer to choose.. I dont really care about the monetary aspects, because as of now I am just looking for some quality experience..

Have you thought about a media related course? Probably MICA and SIMC can be good options......
In fact, non engineering background is better- it separates you from the clutter (sorry to say this, me myself of the engineer-IT company breed ) Think about a media focussed MBA or MarK Com/advert. focussed course

seniors... plzzzzzzzzzzz help!!
The first offer should help you build your profile for a management consultancy kind of a profile post MBA
The second offer might help you for financial advisory roles/ sales and marketing roles depending on how much of what you do, and how much of what you present during interviews
In case you are neutral about both the offers, you can go for the Business Development profile- it will be more challenging than the comfort zone of a MNC research assoc job- which isn't bad at all but still....
A lot would depend also on the kind of person you are and what you like doing- sales job might not be that cushy...analyze you likings/strengths urself too!
Another Suggestion: Think about your career plans right away- don't postpone it 1-2 years hence...have a road map ready NOW
P.S.: Is the first offer with McKinsey Knowledge Research Centre? just curious to know as lot of DU grads land up there, including one of my batch mates
I am working in a reputable finance and auditing company. However, I am working in their technology department (VoIP to be precise)... This is a very lucrative field with lots of opportunities... However I have a hard time deciding my career.
My main passion is MONEY... MBA has always been my dream... Not only because money will flow in, but I like finance a lot... I am a techie as well.. So whichever I decide to do, I will like it...
Here is my question. Should I go for 2 years work XP and then look for MBA in finance or should I continue in this stream?
I want everyone suggestion... Since this is my career choice, I do not want to waste my money or time doing something I wont be happy in the future.,..
In 5-10 years I wont be having any problem working as a techie or as a finance analyst... I do have a slight inclination to the finance stream..
Kindly put in your suggestions.... I would like to hear from you

I presume when u say MONEY is your passion, you mean managing money, and not just earning money?
If you are happy doing what you are doing, you can continue in the stream for the next 2 years and probably up-skill yourself with a CFA certification Level 1/2 in these years. (It requires a good deal of prep though)
This way, you will have the best of both worlds- techie job in a fin company. Once you are done with your CFA, you can look for opportunities within the company or outside in Business Analyst kind of roles
BTW, quoting one of my friends who has been in UK for sometime in the past, there is huge demand for professionals who know finance and who know technology as well- BA role, since the combination of both is difficult to find
You can revisit your MBA decision down the line, if u feel the need for it then
u give various mba exams and see for urself ur standing...if u get into top 10 bschools and do well in mba, most likely u will end up with good co.
@all puys... have come to know dat my training period of 1 year in dis company (which i m undertaking in POWERGRID) wont be counted as work ex. , please let me know if dis is true, coz if its true i would be having work ex of only around 9 months if i go for CAT 2011 which is not what i want. n as i m in power sector what exactly will suit me the best....CAT 2011 OR CAT 2012. my profile is posted in earlier post. small synops of my career. 10 (88% CBSE 2003) 12 (58% CBSE 2005) B.TECH (87% NIT PATNA 2010) EXECUTIVE TRAINEE - POWERGRID (FROM 30JULY 2010-PRESENT)

I would suggest you to go full on for CAT 2011.. Success in CAT is never guaranteed.. anything and everything can go wrong on the D day...
So what if you wait till CAT2012 and.. then blow it up...you never know where you might end up after that
Work ex of 9 months is just fine.... Freshers also get awesome job offers in any of the top B Schools in the country.. so dont let your work experience thoughts come in the way of CAT... All the best..

@mrg AVOID USING BOLD COLORS AND FONT SIZE to convey ur message.... accenture is big brand than infy..but apart from brand u need to check the pkg/location/profile being offered to arrive at the final conclusion

Infosys any day : for a fresher , no company is better than infosys , world class training program at a world class training facility in mysore , and yes Infosys is a much bigger brand than accenture in india
All d best
PS: This is my personal opinion based on 2+ years of work ex at infosys
I am Engg student final year I am good at coding and gadgets. (Computers is my passion ) I have given CAT and MBA paper this year but i am not sure i might crack a good college this year
nExt month i would be sitting for campus placements
Though i feel i would be selected in one of the IT companies visiting my colleges (infosys/tcs/hcl/accenture) bcoz of good academic and tecnical skills
so I wish to ask is MBA right for me? Being a fresher should i go for it or get some work ex first? Shold i focus on IT & SYSTEMS MBA specialization or other fields?
seriously awaiting replies

And what is the career trajectory starting Data Analyst ?
hey folks..I'm doing my 2nd year btech-chemical engineering from one of the best colleges in kerala.I'm confused whether to join some coaching centre next sem, ie when i get into 3rd year. I'll hav to take CAT in Nov 2012.Somebody advise me if i have to wait for my engineering to finish, get a job, work for around sometime OR STRAIGHT AWAY PUT MY HEART AND SOUL into management . I have a strong gut feeling that technology is not my cup of tea.

You can join a coaching class to get a feel of CAT and other management entrance tests. Aim for the top institutes and starting early is an advantage but what is more important is to maintain your tempo throughout the preparation and being focused .
In India most of the top B-Schools (IIMs/XLRI/FMS) take in freshers for their flagship two year MBA courses, so it is not mandatory for you to have work experience. But you can work for a few years until you get the institute of your choice.
