Guys, I have done my GMAT in 2010. Im interested in doing Management in Aviation.I would find it really useful if some one can give me info on the course like the B-schools that offer the course in India and abroad and which one's the best, whether doing it in India is a good option, what might be the course fee and the career prospects it.
Apart from IIM's , which colleges accepting cat score are worth for quitting my 3.25 lpa infy job. Please tell me according to placemnts of the college. As i will be investing nearly 10 lakhs for 2 years ,i don't wanna regret after 2 years...Anything above 6 lpa will be OK for me.

Just look at the pagalguy rankings and check each colleges individual website. Any college within the top 20-25 will give you a package of 6 lpa...
Hi Frnds,
I will complete B.pharm in April. I don't want to study anymore. I am looking forward to do Job. But, the problem is I dnt like typical production and research work. I would like to do Job in which I can do some office work. What is scope to get such Job? Where I should apply?
I am also open for PO job. My birth-date is 14 Aug 1990. So, in which year I will be eligible to sit for PO exam??
Please guide me puys.
Am gonna start right away with my first set of question. I'd really appreciate if you could spend some time in answering a few questions that I am going to ask.
This is all really important to me as I am standing at a very crucial juncture of life. The information contained within your answers would go a long way in helping me out make well informed career choices and decisions. Needless to say, I'll always be grateful. :)
I am a final year electrical engineering student who got smitten by 'economics' due to availability of extra time, owing to the seemingly drab nature of course books for pre final year course of Electrical Engineering.
The relevance of economic theories and the extent to which they affect our daily lives amazed me. I started looking up random websites, reading articles and papers related to economic problems of 21st century, while observing, analyzing and understanding the effects of geo-socio-political scenarios along with their correlations. My interest in the non credit subject increased to the level that it started affecting my academics. (well, almost)
Anyway, now that I am just a few months shy of graduating as an electrical engineer, am exploring alternate career paths/options apart from the run of the mill jobs at IT companies, best suited for the skill set that I have developed over the years.
I read most of the 'Vault guides' a while back, and shortlisted a few lucrative career options after performing a limited SWOT analysis. Consultancy (Primarily) and Investment Banking (To a certain degree) seem to offer interesting career options with a lot of scope for intellectual as well as financial growth.
During the course of gathering even more information, I came across the test case studies of Bain and McKinsey. I did a pretty good job at answering all the question that accompanied the test case studies. Now, I can comfortably say that Consultancy seems to be something right up my alley.
I have looked up a number of blogs and forums, but have only managed to get generic replies to most of the questions that have been on my mind for a while. Hope you guys at PG can help me out.
1) With a degree in engineering, but absolute disinterest in career opportunities that Tech/IT firms traditionally present freshers with, should I start preparing for CFA L-1 exams to develop a solid background in Economics/Finance and associated Analytical tools relevant to the field I want to build my career in?
2) Would prospective employers consider the CFA enrollment (and successful completion of Level 1) as a sign of genuine interest in the field of Finance, at least at the stage of screening CVs?
3) If I successfully clear CFA Level 1 exams in June '11 (Around the time of graduation), would it 'really' count for anything in the job market?
4) What kind of job would be the 'right' one for an engineer with CFA L1, trying to break into the fore mentioned sectors?
5) Would working as a 'Research Analyst' or 'Research Associate' give me sufficient opportunities to understand the sector better?
6) I appeared for a free AI mock CAT a while back and managed to obtain a percentile of 93. Considering the fact that I never prepared or appeared for CAT or a similar entrance test, am pretty confident about the odds of doing well in CAT '11 backed by serious prep.
6.1) Would CFA-L3, with 1 year of work ex instead of 2, coupled with MBA in finance from a top tier institute, give me an edge over the others at the later stage when top consultancy firms and/or investment banks recruit?
6.2) Would CFA significantly help me in either Consultancy or Investment Banking sector?
The reason am appearing for CFA - Levels 1 through 3, is to get some sort of formal background in Economics/Finance/Associated fields. The fact that CFA Institute (USA) conducts standardized exams helps even more, as it gets me some sort of recognition after clearing a level. It also certifies that the knowledge gathered up to the cleared level is sound and legit.
Am I on the right track here?
I realize that some of the questions may be a little vague to the 'enlightened lot'. Please consider the scenario wherein you are dealing with a newbie, as thats exactly what I am, at this point of time.
Thanks for spending your time in reading and answering the questions.

Why not devote 100% of your time after graduation to cracking CAT and just do an MBA from a top institute like XLRI/IIM/MDI/FMS? All graduates from there seem to get top jobs without CFA's and other certificates.
can anyone suggest the from when and where i can able to get cat2010 solution

There is lot of difference between a consult career and an investment banking career and it is better if you can decide which one you prefer. Banking definitely pays more while consulting offers more variety in the job. Stress levels are high most of the time in banks while consulting has crests and troughs. You should give a thought to all this and decide which one you want to go to before investing time and money in CFA. If your undecided go for a premier B School MBA without CFA
CFA is not useful for consulting. For banks, it does give you an edge. But typically people at IIMs don't have CFA and do it after joining banks.
Thanks a lot puys for taking the time out and answering the questions.
Now that I have some idea about the direction I need to proceed in, I have decided to focus on preparing for CAT '11 and simultaneously study for CFA - L1 (Dec '11..right after CAT). 😃
You have a done a good thing by following your passion. As far as B-school interviews are concerned, it all depends on how well you convince them. So don't worry about it and prepare well for exams ....

Status will be final year student awaiting results.

Buddy,
Work experience in any domain makes you learn things which are beneficial in one way or the other during mba and even after mba... switching a job should be independent of this fact according to me... if your current job is not interesting for you, then there is no harm in switching if you are getting a job of your interest.
Working in research has its own advantages but finally things boil down to how you leverage your work experience during and post MBA... so, if you can do that, then switching is a decent option in my opinion.
Hello,

It is good that you are getting trained in BPM.... it will be helpful to you in later stages of career as well.. it basically deals with all processes/aspects/nuances of a business and how to align them all for producing optimum outputs for a business. The focus of BPM is on improving the existing processes and producing better results.
