Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

I am a 3rd year student of engineering and planning to do MBA without experience. My profile is
CGPA (approx)- 3.5-3.6
GMAT- yet to give
I am working with a carbon consultancy company in there management related fields as a intern first and then as a volunteer to help my career go ahead. Now in few months i.e. till January I am starting my own company to analyze carbon credits in Nagpur with collabration with a european company(name cannot be disclosed)

Doing a technical project(civil engineering related) with MIT,USA. Also Having lot of event organizing exp..
Certificate of appreciation for giving Ministry of defence ideas related to training of there just entered officers.

I want to do MBA just after my B.TECH as I feel that my experience with Carbon consultancy company and now starting my own is worth more than a job. I feel I have a experience which can help me acheive a MBA .

I want to ask that should I apply for MBA programs outside considering that they might get impressed by my profile or else should I go for IESE YTP or Harvards 2+2 or LBS MiM programs?

Secondly, Indian MBA's low on ranking can also be considered but my profile is good enough for outside with lots of initiative. So, please suggest me the right career path.

See my profile frm above post. Hi, plz tell my profile is best suited for International MBA or CAT ? Please ans with respect to traditional MBa's. Thanks buddy. Btw what's ur good name 'sir'?
Buddy,

I would suggest to first go through information available on net about all the major modules in SAP and then identify which all modules are relevant with your work experience .. and decide accordingly. According to me, first get good hands on experience of modules where you can leverage your work ex and later, shift to other modules present in SAP.

All the Best

Buddy,

In order to play safe, i would suggest to go for siemens or genotech instead of going for any non registered SAP Institute.

Hi Seniors,

Would love to get your opinion/suggestion/advice on the following.

My Background: I completed my BE Computers. Then got placed into an IT MNC though campus. Fortunately I loved the company and the job. I realized I have aptitude for the IT industry and want to stay in this field. Till date i have an experience of 1.3 years.
Now I want to know how MBA can propel my career. The job profile I am looking for would be - working on proposals, interacting with clients and understanding business process, RFPs etc. I have the following Questions

1. Will doing MBA help me in IT industry and the job profile I am looking for?

2. Which colleges are best to apply? Are there any colleges which have good IT opportunites as most MBA colleges focus more on Finance/Marketing? Most of my friends say that getting into a good MBA college (IIMs) won't promise that you will get an IT profile and I do not want to switch to Finanace/Marketing under any circumstances.

3. In the above scenarios which path is best to complete MBA and get a good placement in IT industry.

Sorry for the long read. If this question has already being answered please provide me the link to that post.

Appreciate your response. Thanks a million in advance. ๐Ÿ˜

Hi Buddy,

There are courses which help to build career in IT/IT Related profiles.... like PGDITM ( Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology Management )offered by NITIE and PGDM ( Post Graduate Diploma in Management) in Information Management by S.P.Jain, Mumbai.

These courses will help you in getting coveted profiles specifically in IT domain.

Thank you so much for the reply.

Is there any place where I can find a comprehensive list of such courses and the colleges that offer it? I was curious to know whether IIMs offer any such courses.

Buddy,

I would suggest you to go through websites for knowing the details of the courses offered by IIMs...

Also , IIM Calcutta has the course : Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Management (PGDCM) and IIM Bangalore has the course:
Post Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSEM)

Hope this helps!

It helps BIG time.

Thanks for your help.

CAT level maths isn't always as tough as the AIMCAT's tend to make it seem. Try to attempt a few past year papers to get a clear picture of where you stand. You might be surprised. Pleasantly, that is.

On the other hand, VIT is a great college and your placement should not be too much of a problem. You could always work on your maths and attempt CAT again next year. You ideally should not be in a hurry. In spite of having converted a few coveted Bschools, working for a couple of years before embarking on an MBA was the smarted decision I made.

cheers and best of luck,
hi frnds want some advice on my future and hope u pagals can help
heres my academic profile 10th from tagore international delhi , 59 .4% , 12th frm dps 69.4 % , bba from ndim delhi 50 % .

im from a middle class family and am what most say a materialistic person . hope to one day buy a big car , nice house and a superbike . im a introverted person and quite lazy and am known as a " nice guy" ๐Ÿ˜ by most girls ! :-(

im really confused on what specialisation in mba - marketing or finance ??

.i feel HR mba will be good for me as i would prefer being in ac office rather than the stressful pursuit of sales in marketing . i am a good judge of people and can quickly infer what type of person one is , like helping ppl and can try make wrk environment best to everyones liking .

whats bothering me is hr placements r much lower than marketing n i dont want to be jobless ever .

marketing looks dynamic and promising and i really like things like advertising /branding etc . but i read marketing guys always have deadlines and lot of stress and always running around to do etc. but more jobs and salary compared to hr .

im in a dilemma over more money stress and relatively calm and cheerful job of hr . what to do puys ?

if i perform well in my job in hr or mktng what salary can one expect after 5-7 years on a average . the colleges im targetting are fore ,iift , fms ,nmims ,kj somaiya etc as my mock cats r in 70-80 range due to v poor marks in quant as i kinda feel clueless as i didnt study maths after 10th .

Being described as a 'nice guy' by the girls isn't always a positive. It can work against you in social situations.

Being 'materialistic' is not a sin. Although choosing a career purely out of your desire to buy that superbike might not be very wise. At least not in the long run.

Having worked in HR for the past two years and now pursuing an MBA in the same field, I can assure you that it is not always an easy job that you seem to be craving.

I could on about HR and the various misconceptions associated with the domain. But that's been done to death eh.

You're going to have to do a lot more introspection if you really want to an MBA from a good college.

@PSL: thank you. sir for your valueable suggestion......yes placement isnt a problem ...package can be less which can be improved later depending on the performance......Hope ill be able to make it in the near future

Bro,

As has been mentioned above that we have specialized courses for IT , but other than that one can take a specialization in systems in any of the good colleges and enhance one's career in this field , typically the profiles offered by IT companies are Business Analyst, Associate Consultant , or a role in the presales team of the company

Now its better if find out more about these roles yourself , and see if you are interested to continue in this field

All d best ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

"A bit aged" you say ...
Ahem Ahem Ahem ...
Well, neither of you are aged, not even a bit. I think this is a typical indian thinking. I believe that both you and Gurdeesh should go and get your MBA.
25 is the prime of your life, your days of youth ... how the hell can you call yourself aged. I know quite a few girls who married at 30 after having reached team lead / assistant manager positions ...
BTW, this post is from a guy ...
@Gurdeesh - 25 + 2 = 27, how will you be 29 ?

Can please some one evaluate my profile for applying for B-schools abroad :

10th : 87%
12th : 73%
B.Tech : NIT Kurukshetra ( Computers Science) - 8.2 CGPA

Work Experience : 5 years in IT( Telecom domain entirely)

GMAT : 720

Worked With Amdocs ( leading Telecom billing company worldwide ) - for 2 years

Then I switched to Orange Business Services ( a leading cellularite globally) - joined orange because of bigger brand name , but left it in 5 months because i didn't liked it at all , because of smaller role and meagre learning opportunities .

That time i moved on to Infinite : a very small company compare to Amdocs , Orange ..but better learning curve

Recieved recoginition awards and have played a majore role in all projects .

E.C : played cricket at district level
part of corporate cricket team
associated with NGO's for 4 years
founder of a small web based business site

Currently i am designated as Team Lead position , that is too early as far as my age is concerned - so i believe that will be a plus point in my profile

My long term goal is to build a company like the one i am currently working in.

Now i am planning to hone my managerial skills further by getting a MBA degree ..my concern is will working in smaller brands and switching after 5 months only will devalued my profile ?.. moreover i want to keep orange experience in my profile ..mainly because of its brand ?

My other concern is where my profile would stand ..in comparison to other people , who have worked in companies with all big brands and have international experience under there belt .

Moreover , can please some one provide me the list of B-Schools , i should target ..considering my profile

Hi,

I'm about to complete by B.E degree majoring in Instrumentation and I've just taken my CAT 2010... I'm pretty confused as to whether I should go for an MBA right after my UG or if I should wait for two or three years and then do an MBA with some work experience?? because many people tell me that the fancy salaries offered in many top B schools are only for the ones with substantial work exp. and not for freshers...
