Buddy,

You are an electrical engineer and i think apart from these, there are specializations like operations also which are related to you engg. stream .. anyways, it is your choice at the end of the day about specialization. There are other colleges like IITs , NITIE where only engineers study management courses and you can have entire peer group of engineers. Also, IIT Delhi provides specialization in telecom as well ... am suggesting all this so that you have wider range of options. Though, i suggest to take final decision as per your interests and not getting influenced by what i or what someone else says.

And, your idea to go for another attempt for SITM looks appropiate ... you can go ahead and prepare accordingly.

Hi puys,
Thanks for starting this thread.
I work for Eclerx(KPO).I aint liking this job at all.
it's all about google search and copy paste.
I have just 8 months experience and no company is offering me a job.
Because of deadlines can't even concentrateon my current nmat and snap preps.
so would leaving this goddamn job would be a good decision?
It is not even well paid job.I had a talk with my immediate boss and he is in no mood to change my work.
i am in a big confusion.
even if i think of job switch what will i say in front of interview panel there?
Am worried and am living in anxiety

Hi guyz I have finally decided to kick start my CAT preps. So before i start i thought of clarifying some doubts.

1. Since i am working in an IT company for the past 1.2 years. I work from 9 AM to 9 PM. (Not on weekends). Also last week we received a mail from HR team stating we have to do Technical certifications(like JAVA) coz it constitutes a major part of the salary hike. So now i ve to tackle two things (CAT and atleast one tech certification.). Is that possible?

2. I know a person who is currently a tutor for few CAT aspirants and also for corporate aptitude tests. Initially i thought of joining him as a student to prepare for CAT (Since i have already attended his session. ). He s a IIM-B passed out. But now i am thinking about some institutions like IMS, TIME etc. So should i have two options now.

1. Join as a student to HIM.(He s a master in QUANTS). So i would get personal guidance and Good QUANTS skills . I have to tackle the GD and English Part by myself.

2. Join IMS or CAT and sacrifice the personal guidance and get many mock CAT exams, Linguistic skills and GD training too.

He has agreed to a fee of RS. 22000 for a year of CAT training. How should i proceed?

I am a 3rd year student of engineering and planning to do MBA without experience. My profile is
CGPA (approx)- 3.5-3.6
GMAT- yet to give
I am working with a carbon consultancy company in there management related fields as a intern first and then as a volunteer to help my career go ahead. Now in few months i.e. till January I am starting my own company to analyze carbon credits in Nagpur with collabration with a european company(name cannot be disclosed)

Doing a technical project(civil engineering related) with MIT,USA. Also Having lot of event organizing exp..
Certificate of appreciation for giving Ministry of defence ideas related to training of there just entered officers.

I want to do MBA just after my B.TECH as I feel that my experience with Carbon consultancy company and now starting my own is worth more than a job. I feel I have a experience which can help me acheive a MBA .

I want to ask that should I apply for MBA programs outside considering that they might get impressed by my profile or else should I go for IESE YTP or Harvards 2+2 or LBS MiM programs?

Secondly, Indian MBA's low on ranking can also be considered but my profile is good enough for outside with lots of initiative. So, please suggest me the right career path.

Buddy,

Seeing the scenario described by you , i would suggest to take a break from job and prepare for entrance examinations for b-schools and try to get through this year itself . There is no need to get worried rather it's the time to put efforts in preparation and get rid of a job which is under utilizing your capabilities.

Also, since there is nothing significant so far in terms of job profile, even job switch won't help you to a big extent.. hence , i suggest you to go for exams you are targetting at.

1. Yes, it is possible buddy. People from IT have done it in past and made to top b-schools , so you can also do 😃 just be firmly determined and keep up the self confidence.

2. In my opinion, you should go for either TIME or CL and try to leverage the national level mock test series which they provide... no coaching can give you the exact mantra to succeed rather they are just the platform which you can use to identify your strengths and weaknesses and work on them at a better pace .

A stupid question from me... how to calculate the % of BTech marks? Is it to be the average of all semester percentages? or the average of all semester marks by overall marks??? :splat:

the second method.. total marks obtained in all sems by max total marks of all sem.. Although the method might vary in diff. colleges.. check out which ur college adopts..

Thank you madam! But which one is adopted in common? Average of all semester percentages? or all the marks obtained divided by over all marks as you said? Its making differences for me!!!

The most common way adopted at most of the places is " total of marks obtained in all sems divided by total overall marks " .

Hope this helps!

Hi Buddy!
Leaving job isnt easy.
You have to serve a notice period of a month to complete all the exiting formalities.
also even if i resign tomorrow I will get only 15 days to study for nmat (on 15th december).so whats the point?
I am in A HOPELESS SITUATION.:(

Hi eveyone,
I am working in a reputed software company and have an experience of 2 yrs. I am planning to give CAT 2011. By the time I join MBA course in Jun 2012 ,my work experience will be close to 4 yrs. My question: Is it a disadvantage to have close to 4 yrs of work experience while applying for MBA programs in Indian B schools. Because what I observed is that in most of the Indian B schools the percentage of candidates having 3.5 + years work ex is only 10%.

Hi Buddy!

i know leaving job is not easy ... and even if you leave, you will be required to serve notice period..... but , loosing hope is not the solution of anything. Right ?

So, try to fight with the situation and carve out better opportunities for you ... if not quitting, then take leave of few days... you can even go for loss of pay leave... many people do it ... and prepare for exam.. once you are completed with exam.. come back and join the office.

Buddy,

With work experience as high as 4 years of work ex... i would suggest to go for GMAT for either pursuing MBA abroad or for pursuing 1 year executive MBA ( in case you are not too inclined towards changing the domain in which you worked till now ) . Having 4 years of experience and going for 2 year MBA has its own pros and cons.... people with high work experience face difficulties during summer placements but they have advantage of being the part of lateral placements and get better positions as compared to people with lesser work ex.

Since, in India, still many people opt for mba in order to change the domain in which they have been working... there are more people with lesser work ex in Indian b-schools.

I have done my B.Tech in Mining Engg. presently working in a Coal India Ltd. as a mgmt trainee & not at all satisfied by my job, want to do MBA from good institution only also appearing for PO exams

So Hi Shantanu,

There are notions, rumours about jobs post MBA. But being there, I would just like you to reflect on few things

1. Why are you hating the present job?
2. The reasons for which u are hating the job mite haunt u after MBA also, its just that u'll be paid something better to hate it less.....think about this
3. PO Exams before MBA? Why? Will that help you in your long term career?

Guys, I will just share wid u my own story. I too was in similar situation few years back and I was just flattered by the glamour of MBA grads and gt into the race. At the end of the race, results pretty satisfactory, got chance into many gud b schools, chose SP Jain, Mumbai, finally. I have realized few things here by the end of my MBA education- One, MBA doesnt make u a superman, it just takes u to your extreme and leaves u thr for u to decide what to do?. Second, MBA can give you a platform to get into good names (firms), but won't give you license to be the spearhead of the company right from starting, (thts why I said, beware, the reasons for haunting in your previous job mite not leave you after MBA also). Third, if u really wanna do MBA, get a reason first that is gud enough.

I found my reason after I joined a B school. . Quite late but atleast found a good one.

TBA!!!

Hi Guyz ! After taking into account all the advice by the forum members, i have decided to take CAT 2011. But still there are some major questions jaunting me. Please do not mind these SILLY questions..

1. Even after working in IT for 1.2 years, i cannot decide whether i should go for MBA. Only thing in favor for doing my MBA is interpersonal and communication skills i possess. But in the previous post, a forum member quoted, " Find a reason for doing a MBA.." My problem is, still i cannot find one.

2. Also i want the genuine opinions from the members whether it makes sense to leave my current job for the sake of MBA. Initially i thought of trying CAT 2011 and if i do not get into a top B school, i could continue my career in IT. But now i am feeling that for preparing CAT i have to sacrifice my technical certifications which may prove a bit costly.

So my ultimate point is without knowing the nature of job i would get after MBA, without knowing why should i pursue MBA, is it meaningful to put my current possessions(CAREER in IT) at stake ? I sincerely apologize for my silly questions. I am a investing a lot of thinking into this because i should not repent in the future for opting for MBA and earning less than what i would have, if i have stayed in my current JOB.

Please come forward and lend your advice to a person in the midst of choosing his CAREER.

Thanks .. and i want to stress one thing here. THIS FORUM IS AWESOME. Without this forum the thought of a MBA degree would not have triggered into my mind.

Its PG for me after a long time

that's why only...

ur line of thinking is perfect..ur anxiety justified..
i wd suggest u continue with ur workex and give cat and if u get in good bschools join them and in all probability by joining a good bschool u will land up in a good job(unless there is nother recession:wow:)...

"as regards finding a reason of doing MBA" - i had no concrete reason except that i wanted to enhance my interpersonal skills....my interpersonal skills got enhanced by coaching for GDPIs while in MBA prep...
finally after doing mba i realize that u get a whole lot of biz knowledge from MBA course...

as regards ur query of what job u will get into after mba while sacrificing ur current job...that frankly no1 knows...i never knew..but then u cannot predict nething..today IT ( ur current job) is booming the same may not be tommorrow....so put in efforts and hope for the best

and for GOD sake none of ur questions are silly.....ur helping others who r in similar position like urs by aksing such questions...
Seeing your profile and almost equal cost as said by you in all the courses.... i would suggest to go for SAP ... It will help you in rebuilding your career as well as it has great opportunities to offer.

Thanks for that, also if u can help me out with Sap Modules which will suits me best and also for job purpose in long run.As i am planning to go for Siemens only.but some new Modules Like APO or PP or something else. I dont have any idea about those.

Thanking u in advance.

Buddy,

I would suggest to first go through information available on net about all the major modules in SAP and then identify which all modules are relevant with your work experience .. and decide accordingly. According to me, first get good hands on experience of modules where you can leverage your work ex and later, shift to other modules present in SAP.

All the Best
